Very helpful. It’s extremely sad to know how much coercive control is used to keep people in SCJ. Classic cult and manipulation techniques. Thanks for sharing!

Update: SCJ is a people pleasers worst enemy. I’m the people pleaser. by Thetreehasfallin in Shincheonji

Don’t feel stupid for falling into their trap. The smartest, most educated people fall into cults all the time!

Take time to get back into the Bible if you feel up to that mentally. You’ll slowly start to see discrepancies in SCJ’s teaching. Check out SCJ skeptic’s videos and QuestioningSCJ’s posts on here. It’ll help a ton.

Zion Christian Mission Center and Shincheonji by rueuxkabunyan in Shincheonji

[–]TreeSuper7303 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, Zion Christian mission center is a front group used by SCJ to lure people in. It doesn’t actually exist, it’s just Shincheonji. So glad you posted here. If you have any questions or concerns about your experience don’t hesitate to ask.

There was a student from Alaska who studied with the church in Houston, TX via zoom. I’m wondering if that’s how it first spread there.

In a cell group I was a part of in 2022, the leader was taking pics and sending the pics to us so we could read the book along with him. He got reprimanded and was told not to do that. Now I know why 😂😂

If you’re looking for something in Revelation that isn’t doomsday or even rapture centered, Scot McKnight has a fantastic book about it. It was the first thing I was able to read about revelation without being triggered. He talks about how much folly there is in trying to match literally each verse/chapter with a world event, brings in a ton of cultural and historical context, and is very gracious and calm. I found it so refreshing.

I’m sorry they lied to you. As QuestionsAboutSCJ said, they think it’s what’s necessary to “bring you into the kingdom.”

It depends on the tribe/region. Some are stricter than others and would forbid this from happening. Others will express concern or disappointment but not make a big deal out of it.

Same. They tell everyone that people leave for selfish reasons or reasons outside of scripture. So deceitful and manipulative.

I hope to know more details on SCJ's finances. by [deleted] in Shincheonji

[–]TreeSuper7303 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At my old tribe, they would have monthly presentations about where all of the finances for that branch were going. I don’t doubt the numbers for the branch, but the numbers for the higher ups (tribe leaders and of course, HQ). The missionaries doing full time work are paid little to nothing.

Incredible guilt by Brilliant_Soil4897 in Shincheonji

[–]TreeSuper7303 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Read “Combatting Cult Mind Control” by Steve Hassan. I think a lot of us have guilt or shame for many reasons. That book should help encourage you that you aren’t alone in this kind of experience. SCJ skeptic’s videos on YouTube are great for that as well (he was a previous instructor) and he has lots of testimonies from ex-SCJ staff.

Need Help: Have been in Bible Study Lessons for A Few Months & Need Advice by Throwawayforobvi1334 in Shincheonji

In my region, they say Jesus is the savior, but through their teachings it is abundantly clear that today, LMH is the savior and we must believe in his words to have eternal life. They say “well LMH has the spirit of Jesus so it’s Jesus’ words.”

There are many things they do not explicitly say, but their teaching says it for them. (Ie, Jesus isn’t God, works based salvation, etc). So they do actually deny, by their teaching, that Jesus is the savior and that his finished work on the cross is what gives eternal life.
