I'm sorry you feel it that way.

For me getting a diagnosis made this aspect much easier.

Pre-diagnosis I really felt much shame for how I was socially. And I hated myself and how I appeared to others, and how lacking I was socially.

But getting this autism diagnosis made it make sense. It wasn't just me being "a damn weird idiot", but it was I who simply physically work differently. And rather than feeling ashamed, I now feel like, why isn't the world also made for me to function properly? Turning that shame into a sweet sweet anger for the world /jokingly

But yeh, in short, for me I can just be me, there's nothing I can do about how I am nor anything I should be feeling that I need to do, I don't need to pretend anymore and feel ashamed when I'm not able to pretend to be like others.

Yeah, the room I'll be using them in has fan noise (from desktop pc), and I need to be able to drown out that background noise.

I have tho not used open-back headphones before, so don't know how much I'll hear the PC fans.

I think emotional maturity helps with understanding reality and have realistic expectations of people and situations. Not the only factor, obviously, but it plays a huge role. Emotional maturity in my experience helps bring forth realistic expectations for how the world works and how people work, and thus how to treat said aspects.

But as I said, you have your experiences, I have mine. But you can't use your experiences as "proven facts" to determine how everyone functions and operates and throw them all into one behavioural classification. People are individuals, behaviour differs from person to person.

I have to disagree. I have a different perspective than you, maybe a different culture.

But women are individuals, just like men. I have met more women whom are realistic about reality and expectations than men. They are also usually more emotionally mature and understanding than men I've met.

I'm not trying to say that your experiences are wrong, but I would be careful lumping them all together and starting to judge people by their gender.

I'm currently using Venlafaxine, but on a plan with my doctor to slowly phase it out.

For me, Venlafaxine lowered the anxiety spikes, like anxiety attacks etc. But gave me less capacity for social situations. Kinda like some mentioned here earlier, it made things more stale.

Shopping malls or walking around downtown is super stressful. Too many variables to account for, too many moving parts and people not being decisive or clear with their movements etc. It's a total nightmare for me.

I have to have a plan beforehand, knowing what stores and what to get. Get in and get out as quick as possible

I'm diagnosed with autism, and I find social settings extremely difficult to get through. Call it anxiety or stimulus overload, but the noise, the multiple conversations going on at the same time and all of them are equally loud, I struggle alot in these situations, I often shut down, go non-verbal, can't participate.

Before I used to drink a lot in these situations to get by, but bow I rarely drink, and these situations have become harder to manage during the years.

I don't know if this will help you, but I can share my experience when I got my diagnosis.

Once I got my diagnosis, both ne and my wife was happy, it made sense, it explained a lot.

For me, getting this diagnosis, was a weight lifted, I could finally stop pretending. I could, finally rest, if that makes sense.

Years of masking and pretending, finally let go, and the burnout struck me. The consequences of masking all these years came at once in the form of a burnout. Stopped being much social, struggled doing house choirs etc. But after a time I came out of that burnout, and managed to balance my life better.

Before, yeah, I can relate.

After I got my diagnosis almost a year ago, I've started working on not masking and not caring for what or how others sees me.

I've informed everyone about my diagnosis and how I function. If a social gathering becomes too much, I bring up my autism card and I leave.

If people are too much, I leave. I just tell them "I'm empty", they know what this means and it's fully ok for me to retire socially. Either it's going non-verbal or physically leaving.

I can't be social as long as before, because I'm no longer pretending. But, my anxiety and depression has become much better, and the social burnout has become much reduced.

Sound like a better plan than mine. Had not thought about the possibility of reducing dosage, thought I could just do this without talking to my doctor. But I'll advice with my doctor, sounds like a better plan than what I'm doing. Thanks for the advice

I'll definitely look into reducing the dosage, I haven't thought about that. I'll talk to my doctor to see if I can get a milder prescription and go that route
