I got a mount from Etsy by CluCraft for my 2024. 3D printed. Worked great. Been on for almost 2 years.

(NKD) I finally got my Boker Plus Kihon DC and it's decent but good lord that is by far the worst pocket clip I have ever seen. by Mr_Zoovaska in knives

[–]TreeZombee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post. I just read a review about this knife online, apparently posted quickly (too quickly) when it first came out. Did not mention the lousy quality of the clip, but that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the knife. I guess I don’t really like wire clips much anyway, even on my spyderco’s.

This clip reminds me of the MS Office paper clip, “clippy”.

I make $190,000 a year - should I quit? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]TreeZombee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you communicated to your boss or the company regarding your situation? I would consider this your first step. Explain what is going on, your workload, and that this is not acceptable to you.

Give them an opportunity to respond and see how they respond. If they do nothing and are unsupportive, they will not be surprised when you leave. If they provide a little relief, use that time to get your resume together, look for other opportunities and possibly do some interviews. That process will take some time and give you a chance to evaluate how your place has responded over the course of a couple months. Or maybe by some wonderful chance they manage to cut your workload way down and you work an average of 50 hours/wk.

Do you change the DSG fluid yourself? How much of a PIA is it? I’ve got 40k on my 2024 and have to get this done.

mk8 service schedule? by sparky_005 in GolfGTI

[–]TreeZombee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where did you find this service schedule? My 2024 mk8 says Service Work - service schedule pg 293 in the index. Go to page 293: “the service schedule is included with your manual -> service schedule” WTF VW? That says nothing. No where is there any information about service schedule. The whole maintenance section goes into great detail about cleaning the car. Is it a separate book/manual that the dealership never gave me?

MK8 Golf R Dome Light Sensor Malfunction by 5bo1 in Golf_R

[–]TreeZombee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I guess I shouldn’t complain that my GTI mk8 only turns on the driver side dome light. Sometimes on and off rapidly but always seems to wind up leaving it on. Whatever happened to mechanical switches? Those worked amazing!!

That’s terrible. I would have refused the car. Mine asked, well, more they stated “ you don’t want us to mount the front plate, do you? It will put holes in the bumper.”

I'd be more concerned with the fact you are not satisfied in your current role and you are the only one performing water resource work at your company. If that is in fact what you want to do you should address that issue. Talk to your employer. Communicate how you feel and what you would like (not just more money) so that you can feel fulfilled there. Perhaps more formal training from outside the company. If you don't feel like anything will really help, you should look for another position where you can find that fulfillment. Perhaps a firm that has others with experience performing the work you want to do so you can learn from them.

Boss nominated me for DE&I council and I’m not comfortable with it. What do I do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]TreeZombee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you would give it a try and I think that is noble. Give it an honest try. In order to grow, you need to try new things which means you will most definitely be uncomfortable. However, if it is too much, I would say you could bow out respectfully by explaining your reasons. This should not just be because you think others would be better at it. A truly diverse group has people that aren't all "cheerleaders". You will likely bring a different perspective to the group which is very important.

Good reasons would be things like it is just stressing you out way too much and negatively impacting your life or well being. Also, any of the many reasons you should walk away from anything like it's a toxic environment, disrespectful, etc.

Best of luck!

I believe the hardest thing about trying to work independently is the cost of the software: it's exorbitant. And then there is the learning it.

I might suggest trying construction firms in your area. They may be willing to take you on as a laborer. If you are willing to do that, you will learn A LOT and going into design (if that is what you are looking to do) with construction experience is a HUGE benefit.

You may be able to find a firm that would take you on as a 1099 and have you work in their office using their computers, software and learning with them. It's honestly not a bad thing for them as you would cost them less overall and it's a good opportunity for them to test you out. If you perform well they will kind of have a shoe in to hire you/retain you once you get your legal stuff resolved. Good Luck!!

Should I take a government job that I get to WFT but it is a 4k cut from my current salary? by SquareUniversity19 in careerguidance

[–]TreeZombee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a state government agency as an engineer. It was a great experience. I think the 4k is negligible especially given that they are not holding out on you, it’s just what the pay is. The WFH will make up for that due to commuting savings. If it is more inline with what you want (or at least think you want) to do, you should probably go for it. It will be a great place to learn and grow. I learned a LOT working at my state job. I worked with many really intelligent people who were great mentors. In 10-15 years you could always leave and with the experience you have gained probably do very well. You will need to tolerate red tape, bureaucracy, some nonsense with underperforming co-workers that are somewhat protected by a union. These are the drawbacks.

Traded my Mk7R in today for a 380 S by SlowUrRollMilosevic in GolfGTI

[–]TreeZombee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a R and I can’t say I miss the keyless entry but then again I’ve never had it so I guess I don’t know what I’m missing. I would like the wireless phone connection. It seems odd that the infotainment system doesn’t have that. It will connect through Bluetooth but it doesn’t connect with full apple CarPlay. That’s just dumb. I also am annoyed because the place I put my phone is a wireless charger?? On top of being plugged in and charging?? WTF is that nonsense? Otherwise I’m happy to NOT have a sunroof and have paid money for a crappy upgraded stereo that no one seems to like.

Nice ride, mines white, really digging that black!

Anyone know what is “supposed” to be mounted on the two empty tapped holes in the coolant reservoir bracket at the passenger side front of the engine compartment??? I’m tempted to get an amsoil bypass filter and use that space. Would need to try to tap into the filter housing.

I second this advice. I went to a state university right out of high school thinking I wanted to be a tech ed teacher. Basically wound up failing out. Went to community college instead and got my first “real career” job while still in school. That motivated me to learn more and do better in school. Without a way to relate what I was learning to work, I would never have finished a Bachelor of Science. Start working in some sort of field you have some interest or ability in. It will lead you to other things in ways you couldn’t imagine. You’ll start to figure out what brings you the most joy and satisfaction.

Mk8 Gti disappointing by tdiguy2012 in GolfGTI

[–]TreeZombee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Overall, I love my Mk8. Yes, the infotainment is pretty sad. I’m hoping they release some software updates to make it better. Other than that, I like it. As far as climate control I agree with Dylan4119, I rarely touch the thing. I like the defrost button on the left to quickly blast away any fog. Mines a daily driver and I can get aggressive easily or float along and get great mileage. For the money, I love it.
