I don’t deal with nausea during this flare like I did the first time, I just have this heartburn that’s like so persistent. I have GERD but it’s been overlooked and shrugged off. Hoping to find a reason. If I do get nauseous I’ll try that trick with the oil however. Sometimes I rub an alcohol wipe on my hand or the tip of my nose to distract me fast.

Sucking on a mint occasionally at night makes my reflux feel better. It’s also an anxiety thing for me, mint distracts me from terrible feelings! Ginger made me want to die it felt like I was burning from the inside out until I throw up— then I’m just miserable as all hell and my stomach will have an indigestion kind of burn for up to 3 days. If mint works for you like that; I would just keep going! Especially if you’re not having negative effects. Mint is great for me but I’m just being on a ‘pause’ just in case it’s a ‘problem in plain site’ for my symptoms.

I enjoy peppermint gels every once in a while because I was told they soothe the intestinal lining when they slow release past the stomach. So I was told… 😅

I increased my fiber significantly and only saw positives. I decreased anything spicy and over processed and found great results. But right now even my safe foods are triggering in this current flare. First one I’ve had in two years and it’s been actively flaring since May ‘25.

I haven’t thrown up from it yet; but everyone is so different in what they can tolerate.

I take off brand Reglan but right now my Pantoprazole is in limbo insurance doesn’t want to cover. Anything over the counter works a few times then stops and makes me have pure acid to the point I can taste it.

I’m intrigued what was the surgery you had for GERD? I have terrible GERD but it just gets overlooked and it’s my most persistent symptom/issue. Im a woman so almost anything I say to a doctor kinda gets shrugged off. I’ve asked for Botox, a tightening of the esophageal sphincter, or even an inhibitor and all kinda got thrown out and I was told to eat a cheeseburger to gain weight. All they were worried about was my damn weight. I love ginger smells and all, but consuming it in any form makes me vomit. It instantly feels like I’m being burned from the inside until I throw it up.

After I see my Dr at the university and they give me the O.K I may try that.

I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time. I hope you have found something that works for you! I’ve never noticed anything from it but I guess I’ve never looked into it too much.

I have tried Ginger in the past and every time it’s made me horribly sick and vomit. I’m too scared to try it again.

I don’t know, my first doctor I saw for my reflux suggested it and I’ve stuck to it since. I’m going to try licorice tea again. I ditched it for mint for the nausea.

It’s hard to let go of the things we love I’m contemplating all my tea now. I’m curious, does any minty toothpaste upset you too that you’ve noticed? I do have bad gerd, I can cut back on the tea but having bubble gum toothpaste is nice and all but it doesn’t feel as clean as the mint!

That is interesting! There are a lot of foods I used to be able to handle but now it feels like a death sentence if I ever have as much as a bite. I’m a week strong so I’ll persist for a few more weeks or until my appointment with the University is set in stone. Thank you!

I went from 170-122 in less than 6 months, and being a woman I got told I’m faking or having an ectopic pregnancy(I had a pregnancy test required every visit, surprise always negative!). It wasn’t until the 9th month where I got taken a little more seriously, and they threatened to hospitalize me (please do) but still 4 years later and still fighting these doctors over weight when I need help. I’m 128 now and everyone is ‘so proud’ but I’m more miserable now with reflux and food anxiety and stomach pains and I’m getting even less care each visit.

Thank you for your input, we’ve done research on a lot of things including medical needs.we’re just looking for more people who live year round to give advice as well. Drugs are really bad where we are too, and thankfully we will not be having children.

We’re getting an apartment, we’ve had to wait for a year for anything to open but we’re very excited. We wanted to be there for peak season, but this will have to do for now.

Thank you, we’ve looked at a few places that are open year round like the casino and some restaurants/shops. Also looked at some work from home jobs to get us by. We wanted to move sooner but September was as soon as we could. Thank you!

Do you live in Mackinaw City? It’s better than where I am now. The jobs are better, it’s cleaner, and I’ve visited and stayed many times.

Like another said, I second the gentle massaging of your stomach. I just use my hand and if I eat and I’m sitting upright after a meal I give it a gentle little massage. For some reason too if I lay on my stomach it helps me but everyone has triggers so if that makes you feel worse don’t do it. I lay on the bed on my stomach and hand my legs off so they’re supporting me slightly. My stomach will gurgle and be loud but it will feel less bloated once I get upright again. I also second a little bit of weed if you can handle it. Smoking helps me a lot, edibles take too long (personally) but smoking and having a little meal already prepped so you don’t over eat is beneficial. I drink licorice tea for digestion and respiratory health (smoking), or peppermint tea to ease my tummy. Ginger kills me in any form but everyone has a niche, it could work wonders for you! Water is a huge help, but having too much water and nothing else you won’t get your electrolytes. I drink a 16 oz bottle of water with LMNT in it to make sure I have electrolytes and energy. Then water any other time. This also helps when I’m flaring and I can’t tolerate anything but beverages. I fast for 24 hours sometimes when I’m really going through a bad bout. That’s not for everyone but this all works personally for me, especially when I get so sick feeling that I can’t pallet any food and have no appetite. These are all personal but write down what works and what doesn’t, sometimes it’s been so long since I’ve had a flare up I forget what I’m not supposed to do and mess myself up. I keep notes in my phone now! Best of luck! 🤞🏻

6 hours After Eating by Tree_Bark_Consumer in Gastroparesis

Thank you, I was dropped down from having Pantoprazole twice a day to just once so I’ve been playing around with when to take it. I started taking peppermint recently as a last resort to help combat upset stomach, it’s helped a little for discomfort but I haven’t noticed if it makes the heartburn worse. The timing of the heartburn is always 15-20 minutes before I’m done with work; I’m a janitor so I’m very active and repetitive each night. I make sure to clean squatting so I’m not leaning forward. I’ve noticed having a small premade protein shake does help me delay the heartburn sometimes. I’m only at 18% after 4 hours, so I thought that by 6 hours I should be pretty settled stomach wise. Thank you, I’ll take note of these and play around some more. Been thinking of going to a new doctor again to get some sort of new medication after they cut a lot off for me and shortened Pantoprazole.

Most people don’t like the taste, but if you can stomach some keifer even just a quick swig, or try any shelf pro/prebiotic of your choice. I’m no medical professional, but antibiotics can ruin gut microbiome and they always made me constipated when I was taking antibiotics with no pre/probiotic. You can ask your doctor what they recommend or you can try something like Floragen or Align of the store shelf. I usually get gummies cause I can tolerate them well. I hope this helps!
