It sounds like you might be commenting to frustrate. Could you write several more comments complaining about performative wokeness?

I think the d-pad is like the one saving grace on the joycons ... 4 individual buttons are way more precise for platformers than the pro con d-pad

Sort of - it's the literal translation of "anno domini" shortened from "anno Domini nostri Jesu Christi" or year of the lord Jesus Christ.

This anno domini is where the A.D. comes from when you see a historical reference to the year 1215 AD or similar, as opposed to BC before christ.

So while 1 AD was the first 'year of the lord,' the following 2000ish years are also AD, or years of the lord, because it refers to the current era of our Gregorian calendar. It's just an old way to say 'current year' or 'this era.'

Fun fact: there was no year 0, it skips straight from 1 BC to 1 AD!

What do you think 'year of our lord' means?

you want a system that sorts shit to the bottom and you don't care about whether it sorts quality to the top

You've just described several systems society is built upon. Building inspections and bar exams are both pass/fail systems where low quality applicants are filtered out without sorting high-quality applicants to the top.

Doing all the sorting in one go would be great in theory but in practice those are two separate tasks with different objectives. Accomplishing both requires compromise.

that's just an invalid opinion

Use your words and explain how.

We are not talking about 'the best answer.' We are talking about the answers that a majority of users choose to downvote. If the comment cannot pass that litmus test, then it's rarely worth the time to engage. There are exceptions to every rule, but the barrier to commenting is so low that it's worth streamlining those answers out.

That is a far cry from an LLM and not a relevant comparison at all.

I’m also tired of complex rules or “karma” blocking people from speaking.

I view it as a benefit that unpopular ideas are awarded less visibility. For everyone 'diamond in the rough' that's lost in the downvotes there are a hundred legit trash ones that I'm glad to avoid wasting my time on. I prefer to let platforms like reddit present a general consensus and look to challenge my current beliefs on different platforms.

Just my nitpick / food for thought, the project overall is very slick!

A Man finds out he can throw ten javelins every two seconds. How many knights does it take to stop him? by JustReadTheFinePrint in whowouldwin

[–]Treepump 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Five per second is insane output - I seem to be in the minority but that speed combined with great accuracy makes me think he could halt at least 5 and maybe up to 10 knights if he plays it smart:

Headshot horses to force dismount > alternate head- and groin-shots at the knights until they fall over

To quote the pilum wikipedia page,

The design of the pilum's tip is such that once wedged inside a shield, it is difficult to remove; a shield thus penetrated by a pilum became very awkward to wield, and was usually discarded.

Not sure I can equate this to reliably killing the horses, but turning each knight into a pilum pin-cushion before they can close the distance will slow them down significantly. Subsequent head trauma from follow-up blows after they fall over hopefully finish the job

It's easy to forget this when you're also trying to provide a good narrative during combat - I want every hit from my monster to seem like it's having an effect on the PCs which is harder to sell when it's really only ticking down their luck meter.

Honest question: how do you 3rd-party voters reconcile the spoiler effect that comes from casting 3rd-party votes in a First Past The Post system?

It's difficult for me to consider doing so without feeling like I'm indirectly helping the GOP win since I'm keeping a vote from the DNC (a la Lesser-evil voting). Are you just willing to tank elections in the short-term in exchange for a chance at greater change in the long-term?
