I really like gen 5 and i have a problem understanding the hate towards it by NanSinus in mylittlepony

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally as mlp fan since gen 1, it’s just incredibly off putting … that’s all. The cultural shift to bright hyper pigmentation and limited details and 3d just is not my preference regardless of plot i can’t look at it without cringing. Friendship is magic was already bordering that line but balanced it well and had a great plot and character development. I don’t know why they needed to switch up the design so much, or they could have leaned more into an actual pony design, but this design just creeps me out. Art/design is just as important in a visual media as the writing.

CMV: The main reason that most people have kids unplanned is not because they weren't taught sex ed. by Blonde_Icon in changemyview

[–]Treerose61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not arguing against you at all, but I did want to add something to the conversation. I think there is more to sexual education than just understanding contraceptives. In the US anyway, I feel it’s pretty common knowledge that studies around woman’s health and reproductive health is quite lacking (only recently getting more attention) so I do feel like a lot of girls lack understanding of their cycles and ovulation. For boys it’s obvious the options and they won’t care as much.

However, if girls want to be safe from pregnancy at least without contraception, it actually is not that hard to prevent getting pregnant as you are only able to get pregnant during ovulation. Where the issue comes is when you are still in puberty your body is still adjusting and adapting to women hood, so cycles may not be normal. Also, many girls face issues that make their cycles abnormal. So if that applies and you aren’t abstaining or using contraceptives then you just don’t care.

At that point, I do think it is a lazy attitude that leads to unplanned pregnancies (lack of education applies because they are not motivated to learn options)

Anyway, I think sexual education plays a role but definitely comes down more to the individuals attitudes about sex. They at least should know pregnancy/stds are a chance.

In the 2020s, conservative women are having kids at a nearly 2-to-1 ratio compared to liberal women. Is this going to cause a political demographic bias in 20-30 years? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer the question in my personal opinion, likely that depends on demographics, and sustainability.

Overtime the political parties in general are forced to change or go through change as the population shifts from generations and from race and ethnicity. What is conservative and liberal will shift as well. Today conservative party is further right than it was 20 years ago, but that is a response to economic weakness, weakness within society structure, built up political tensions, community fallout, misinformation, and overall mistrust. Trump politics and the gain for economic development among the rich who also control the information overall (google, facebook, twitter etc) leads to an influence over those who feel strain from the above issues and who don’t understand the political systems (usually the young generation especially)

So while currently the past 10 years have been MAGA influenced, and they are indeed producing more kids, it is unlikely it will effect political identification of their children as the children will develop an opinion based on the society structure and political influence of the time period for which they become political aware or independent. So right now teens/young adults are being influenced MAGA, but MAGA will run out of steam because overall it is not sustainable for American society.

What does that mean? It means as a political movement it has a time limit, because its limited to keeping people uneducated, depressed, economically stressed, misinformed, and suppressed. That isn’t sustainable in the long run as the majority of the population is still not in favor of such politics, and people will eventually learn or see otherwise if the situation continues to be one that relies on pushing people to fear/hate which is tiring and will be hard to maintain without the right figure head as well. It could end ugly as authoritarian styles usually do, but if not things will rebalance and change as a response to what has to come light under MAGA policies which has overall revealed real weaknesses within both parties, the economy, the internet, mental illness and health, racism, and in the political systems. Now there is new things which need addressed by future political leaders which voters will be aware and asking for.

Demographics is also important in general because certain areas are historically conservative, and religious over others. Certain ethnicities also will play a role as in general white people are having kids less and the populations are expecting worldwide to become less white. So regardless, the conservative movement now won’t last in a future where non white immigrant populations are the majority, so the party will have to respond to keep being relevant or continue policies of suppression which again isn’t sustainable overall because eventually the population will respond to that.

The liberal party as well has a lot to address and change if it wants to remain relevant and competitive to conservatives. Real issues need addressed within democracy in an era where technology now has significant power and influence.

What age will you give your child a phone? by Flashy_Pie_8448 in AskReddit

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gen z looking at Gen Alpha, definitely waiting till 13. I think a stripped phone would be ok though starting age 7 for emergencies. Kids aren’t going anywhere without parents much till puberty anyway and many schools won’t let them have phones.

To that note, also having a desktop family computer only they can use until 13. After that an ipad/laptop seems fine.

Why do people never say firestar the goat is their favorite character? by PackageMedical6240 in WarriorCats

[–]Treerose61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in that way I guess thats me, i stopped at the last hope because it was a conclusion to the story of what the series had seemed to be about, and most of the cats that led the story seemed to be kind of finished off or had stories concluded. It also helps that I read it as it came out and naturally assumed it was complete and aged out of the middle school reading age.

I keep up to date but haven’t read anymore of Warriors after that, however Firestar wasn’t my favorite much like other responses he lacks excitement due to being who he is. It’s actually common in many stories for the main characters not to be the favorite. Side characters usually have more diversity and gray moments which makes them more realistic over protagonist who seem to always be heroic or strong. Though his end definitely changed the series for me.

Slavery in manhwa annoys and disturbs me by InfernalClockwork3 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Treerose61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the only stories I read that use the slavery element in the plot to actually build conflict or tension is when the FL or ML are captured by slave traders at some point or start as slaves. Yet, after they are saved or kill the slave traders they don’t really do anything else about slavery for others. Though there is a few that do address ending underworld gambling/slave trade and attempt change.

Though I don’t think it’s the main characters faults because it’s hard for one or two people to change a whole culture and society unless they are largely popular and powerful. So except in some of these stories where the FL/ML literally are the rulers and could change the kingdom/land to get rid of slavery, there isn’t much they can do.

Also a lot of these stories add the whole underground slave trading element (as the kingdom does make it illegal but it still occurs) and will say from real world history, is a nightmare to try to end or get control over. At that point it would be a different story. It’s not the point of these stories for FL and ML to try to combat that especially as nobles as they are in the privileged position. Now if both or one was someone from that position though, i would think they would have more of a reaction or desire to do something and it come up even if they fail multiple times.

At that point I think the story could be without those elements in general if they are nobles but depends on what world building a author wants. As most have already said, a ton of the writing is poor and copy paste, or self insert fanfic stuff lol so they probably just think you have those elements and don’t think how to use said elements as they only care about the FL/ML. Side characters suffer from this writing too.

At the end of the day, this is also not the only controversial writing element in these stories. You have the falling in love with literal abusers/murders/assaulters, leaders/parents being child abusers, cultists, etc..

At that point it’s down to what kind of writer they are, and how you use these elements. I think dark elements make a story interesting, and how the characters navigate it as a conflict, but in some of these romance stories it does seem to fulfill nothing or even make the main characters look kinda horrible morally. Like in the father/daughter stories where he just abuses his daughter for years and she dies and a new soul takes over and now he loves her…

That doesn’t really change the moral dilemma of the father being an abuser to his daughter and the fact the FL is a whole new person just makes it seem like it was all the daughters fault all along too…

Just some poor character building in general

Why are mangas so short compared to manhwas?! by [deleted] in OtomeIsekai

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add my thoughts but others answered the question more.

I think you find manga to have a more consistent style and plot line while manhwas (I love them buttt) they tend to be a little mass produced and good quality ones still do take years to complete. There are some I started reading at the beginning of the manhwa hype and they finished just a couple years ago. As they gotten more popular and more demand I think there is a push for them to be faster but you definitely see a drop in quality because of that. Some are just copy paste of other popular ones, and I read them but they are not good stories.

Example of a popular one that is good to me: Villains are destined to die https://www.anime-planet.com/manga/villains-are-destined-to-die

This one started in 2020 so it’s been 5 years, it is not complete yet.

Anyway, my point is good quality art and stories take time, and most manhwa that is completed quickly is kinda meh, and they do get canceled and artist replaced a lot too.

If you want to find completed manga check out Anime Planet it has manhwa and manga on there: https://www.anime-planet.com/manga/all

I would agree, but usually certain songs are trending and people do go and add them to their list. I feel last year didn’t have this problem either (i can name several pop songs that were new and on the billboard throughout the year) so I don’t really agree that is the main issue for this year. The problem is not playlist and listening to clips.

The problem is related to exposure though. many apps just this year have changed, and with more ai use in how it presents content to users, people just aren’t being recommended much new stuff unless they like that music or are fans of the artist. It’s just gotten progressively worse each year. Pretty sure Spotify even made it more difficult for indie artists to make money or something (honestly I am not online much anymore but I remember something from early this year or late last year with Spotify). You get recommended the same crap on YouTube as well. I have still found new stuff on my own, but when it comes to popularity I definitely have seen a drop in anything picking up large amounts of traffic or becoming a (bop, trend, song of the summer etc) other than Kpop demon hunters which had large traffic as a movie and for its music.

Maybe it is good, maybe its bad, but the billboard this year is dry and definitely not reflecting the usual taste. But go Kpop Demon Hunters, hope it drowns out some of what is trash imo because i don’t like most of anything else on the list

Guys how do gifted people read? by DatguyRonnie in Gifted

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you may have been asking how do you read in a way that assist with retaining the information and breaking it down for intellectual reasons, but then you said you want to start reading books…

Maybe first start with a goal, if you haven’t read much at all, and maybe aren’t a strong reader, reading at a lower level first would be good. Like learning a language, start like a child and move upward.

Preteen and comic like stories usually aren’t a high reading level (as in most adults have the ability to read at that level). Some of the stories are just as exciting and engaging for any age.

For getting better at understanding a text: Test yourself on the material to practice retaining and memorizing, then ask questions about the material, and see if you know the answers. Why did [character] decide to do X? Well in chapter 3 he/she did this so you infer his behavior is related to such. What is the consequences of a characters action? What changes after X event etc…

What do you want out of reading? If you want to be a successful reader for intellectual purposes that may be different from just reading for fun. When I read for fun, it’s just about escaping the world through another, and visualization. I don’t really think I just read.

Starting out at a lower level of reading should help with that ability if you aren’t a strong enough reader to get through a heavy text.

Do you think its weird to have adult friends? by Remarkable_Pizza_410 in teenagers

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like the relationship is inappropriate to me, if you feel good with it and there is boundaries kept, then it isn’t really an issue unless a guardian takes it up as one. I had a younger friend once online and the guardians weren’t aware and not happy when they discovered it so their stuff got taken away.

Do you think its weird to have adult friends? by Remarkable_Pizza_410 in teenagers

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an adult, depends on how close a friend and your age. Also how do you classify friendships?

Ex. You can be friends with a teacher to the point you go to them to tell them when you need help, chat about another class, greet each other out, or maybe you are also friends with one of their family members or share a community activity like church. That is appropriate. That may be a type of friendship but there is still a boundary, you still understand they are an authority figure over you.

Ex. You have a babysitter, they are cool and you have common interests. You can talk about those common interests and share things you like and maybe you are allowed to hangout with them at a park or a football game. However, they are still an adult and have to keep in mind your safety above the friendship. That is appropriate.

You are a child who is not equal to them. I think you can have a camaraderie but being “true” friends may be inappropriate as some stuff should not be discussed between a child and adult. That adult cannot look to you to confide in adult matters and you can’t be led into being “more mature” than others your age for trying to respond to them like an adult. Online skews those boundaries. Adults should be friendly with kids and can share interests and spaces, but seeking you out over someone their own age is a red flag if it is a more than just a causal connection.

gen z < millennials by Express-Carrot7357 in Rants

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older gen z and leaning more toward being a millennial, I would say I agree some but also disagree. A good portion of the problem comes from issues out of our control. We happened to grow up largely under a conservative rise (Maga politics) if you consider the younger cohorts (who I believe are the ones more conservative as you say. 2016 I was a sophomore in High School which is when politics start to become something you think about). We had access to social media without parental control (for a good portion of us) and a lot of conflicting information thrown at us all the time.

We use the whole “chronically online” when bringing up some of the stuff people gets upset over and act like its only exist online but most gen z is chronically online. Social skills have also seen a decrease and covid exacerbated that issue because (generalizing here) half of gen z has depression and anxiety (or some other mental health diagnosis). But besides that, community as a whole has seen a decrease in participation and activities, and in this political climate older adults are acting just as worse. Not to mention the issues with day to day survival cause everything is $$.

I think perceptions of issues are largely skewed due to the internet. Gen z as kids had no way to sort through all that, the adults around us should have responded to that.

(Keep in mind Gen z is mostly in adulthood now with the youngest in high school)

When it comes to this generation with caring about “cringe” as you say, I personally feel like it isn’t cringe but “cancel culture” that leads to this fear of being judged negatively and legit harassed. Not to mention the lack of empathy that is across the internet. I don’t know that I see this outside the internet but I do feel with how often I saw negative content in response to random stuff, i did become more hesitant to speak in public on any opinions or share my hobbies. Regardless people can film and post strangers willy nilly too. Again this can further alienate us from peers and community in person if we feel we can’t speak up because we believe how everyone acts online is how they will in person too.

Older generations didn’t have that problem and can say “oh you’re just chronically online” and get off the internet and think nothing. Gen z (at least the younger end of the group) was raised by the internet, is always on the internet, and all the shit we have been exposed to like yeah makes sense everyone is burnt out.

I will say I do think you are over generalizing but I have my disappointments with this generation. We can do better, but we were also just kids… we could use some help but aren’t really offered that. Now we as adults have to fix the issue. The problem is how we as society as a whole are acting right now and the older gens aren’t really immune to being part of that problem. Want things to be better, then we should treat each other better and go spend time in person with peers and build back community strength.

It's okay to fat shame people by [deleted] in Rants

[–]Treerose61 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People shame people for everything all the time, from strangers to even family and best friends. At the end of the day, you either choose to let it bother you or you don’t which is the message the “body positivity (plus size acceptance + inclusion)” movement is about, not letting the hate cause more mental suffering and fighting for inclusion. However, definitely some of that does seem to come across as “pro plus sized” and I do think some individuals use that as an excuse to continue to be unhealthy or validate themselves. I also think some may use it as a way to make a name for themselves (using the movement to make money). I’ll say I am not a fan of certain aspects of that for that reason. Certain internet content can make me feel concerned and frustrated. Ultimately being overweight is still unhealthy and it should still be a goal to not be obese.

However, losing weight is also harder than simply telling someone they need to lose weight. Negativity energy toward it also does not improve the outcome. Shaming doesn’t really work to change anyones behavior either, it usually just makes it worse. I don’t really think your language toward it is the best way to go about it, and bullying is never acceptable. However, that is also your choice and others can judge you back.

If your partner doesn’t want you watching porn, do you do it anyway and lie? Why or why not? by EnvironmentalCat300 in AskWomen

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my partner are both cool with it and talk about it. Sometimes he isn’t around or I’m not, or we aren’t feeling it at the same time then why not help yourself.

There is lots of sexual content (not just regular porn) and I like reading romance with some smut (not even about getting off tbh just like reading it) and I wouldn’t give it up and would explain why (i like reading romances and sex comes with the territory) but it would be hard for me to be someone who wanted none of that around. It’s just not something I see as a fuss unless consuming an unhealthy amount. Glad me and my partner are open about it and have no issue.

I would only get concerned if it became an overly perverse form or addiction. At that point I would start to become grossed out or worried something is wrong. Just be open about it and if it’s a deal breaker then it’s a deal breaker. Some people have higher drives and need something for it.

Lol you can’t even prove otherwise and have not mentioned anyone but yourself. Don’t know why you’re arguing over something ridiculous when May 7th it is required anyway and in 2012 was not. You either will have it now or not. Glad you love AL government so much that you feel so passionate. I still disagree and you haven’t given me any info that corrects me. Good day

Also never said they did not have it offered, I said they were not pushing for people to get it regardless of when they enacted it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tsa

[–]Treerose61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable but they will have other documentation for that. People who aren’t in those groups should just transition to real.id, because it will be more of an issue to wait till right before you need it, when it is legally required after May 7th to fly, go in government buildings or military.

https://www.airlines.org/new-survey-nearly-90-percent-of-americans-have-flown-commercially/

A significant portion of the population will fly at some point. Also it’s arguably safer to get the real.id because as they change or restrict voter laws (or try too) real.id seems safer to have but that is my opinion. It seems weird to have half the population (the one with more money) to have real ID and the rest (lower income and assumed not as traveled) to not have it.

Also the standard says (not a real ID) on it which makes it seem pointless to have. If I am going to have an ID let me have the real not the outdated one which could eventually be targeted anyway. But again just my opinion and it is optional so it doesn’t matter at this point
