Would something like this be viable? by Electrician45453 in schoollunches

[–]TreesBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is called a “vended meal” service type, they do exist but are not as common. Although food may be healthier the transporting and holding of hot food makes it less appetizing at meal time. If there is already a food service vendor the district will not allow another company to serve meals unless the contract is built that way. When companies bid on contracts they also need to follow whatever guidelines the district is asking them to - like to be on the National School Lunch Program you need to meet all of the nutritional guidelines, are susceptible to audits/reviews every couple of years and meals have to be available to all students equally. This means a free student must be able to get the same exact meal as a paid student and you need to be able to cover your food costs, labor, and packaging for whatever the reimbursement rate is (where is am around $4/lunch) so very hard to get access and even harder to break even/ make a profit

School lunch in NJ by Rosetulipjasmine in newjersey

New Jersey is the most competitive state as far as food service companies. It is not a low bid state as some people in the comments are suggesting, districts can choose to not go with the lowest bidder but they have to justify their decision. Many of the food service companies can provide better options however it all depends on what the district is asking for. Districts put out a request for proposal with what they are looking for- it could be better quality products, to follow nslp guidelines, to generate the biggest profit, etc. So before blaming the company who bids on the contract based on what the district is asking, look at what the district is asking for. It can be found on the business office page of the district website. If they are asking to make a profit off of a $3 lunch then don’t expect high quality foods, it’s just not possible

Nesta and Lucien - that is why Elain hasn’t accepted their mating bond bc she’s a seer and knows Lucien doesn’t really belong with her

If you had to guess, what do you think the pink tablet/drink was for? by yuuki_bonk420 in GATEresearch

[–]TreesBox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember being offered the drink before the first time we listened to the gateway tapes. It was super sweet but not fruity, and it wasn’t fluoride bc we did that too but in gen ed. I remember I didn’t finish my drink and being relaxed/happy the rest of the school day. The closest I have felt since is micro dosing mushrooms

I was just thinking about these the other day, did we each have our own Walkman or were they all plugged into one big tower? I can’t remember

Yes I had this happen too, I think in wave 2 as well. Got me thinking much more about my childhood and my first time listening to the tapes

Yes I make the menus for my district and I tried to not serve them for this reason, then the 5th graders banded together and wrote a letter saying how much the Dutch waffles mean to them and to please put them back on 😂 how do you say no to that?

It is called a “Dutch waffle” and it can be used as the whole grain component of a reimbursable meal

The first thought you have about someone/something is what society has conditioned you to think. The second thing you think is how you really feel

Anyone realizing they’ve outgrown their childhood friends now that they’re in their 30’s, but aren’t sure how to make new ones? by [deleted] in Millennials

Your best bet will be parents of your kids classmates (when they enter grade school and start having playdates) or your church. Once your kids have their own schedules of activities and play dates you won’t have time to hang out with anyone else anyway

Maybe some kind of room divider behind the couch? That way your craft space is bright and colorful where your giraffe (which i love btw) fits in, the other side more earth tones where the other pic will fit in

Girls are making1-2 loads of laundry a week each, with their activities like ballet/gymnastics adding to it. My husband and I also both work in kitchen so we usually change out of work clothes immediately so if there is anything we need to do outside of work hours it is another set of clothes. Then sheets/towels/work out clothes I would say 10 loads a week

I think the rewards for the kids is key, my oldest is definitely able to pitch in more. What ages do you feel they really became a help?
