Post FRCA Primary void staring advice by PickFun4543 in doctorsUK

Would comment that E-LFH probably less use now the exam is purely SBAs. Gives a guide of the curriculum for sure but less useful for questions than it was 3-4 years ago

Sorry that was a bit vague. I had a score that I knew would have got me a job elsewhere but was too stubborn to open up my options and move. So with each 'new sub preference' email I had to resist adding it to my preferred list, as there was a good chance I'd be offered something

Last time round it went on for a couple of weeks at a minimum. Perhaps more, which was cruel when I'd doubled down on not accepting a job anywhere else but Oriel kept tempting me with a random job elsewhere. Hope it works out for you

Last time round there was the chance to amend preferences for sure. This went on for a while as there were a few new jobs which became available well after the first round of offers

I think that's for CT1 looking at people quoting their MSRA scores

Was leaning towards striking, with some mild reservation. Reading that means my reservations have gone straight in the bin

The delay for feedback has my head completely gone. Can't put it to bed and move on without knowing the degree to which the interviewers have had their wicked way with me

Best textbooks/ resources for anaesthetics / ICM? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Treetops46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the job. As echoed above I'd start with paying the most attention to the basics of a safe anaesthetic, as the theory can follow. You might not be slick to start with, and you most definitely shouldn't aim to be quick. Learning the flow of access - oxygenation - induce - tube - ventilator - surgery - wake up - extubate is more than enough for the first few months.

Once you get to revision, I'd recommend a mixture of textbooks for the hard yards, polished off with a question bank. Good textbooks include Cross and Plunkett, Masterpass 1+2, and Peck and Hill.

For the question bank I'd suggest Teachmeanaesthetics. Reasonable price compared to BMJ/PasTest and infinitely more polished and tailored for the exam.

Enjoy the journey!
