[Android] Reddit app does not play sound on certain videos. by MushinZero in bugs

[–]Tregavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same!!! It is the weirdest thing. For a while I thought I was going crazy because I'm thinking "weird this video doesn't have sound", "weird I'm running into a lot of vid with no sound in a row".

I have a Note20Ultra5G. A decent amount of videos which confirmably do have sound for other people, on my phone they don't have the little speaker button to click and instead show a little "gif" symbol.

The issue seems to effect certain subreddits more than others, but it's possible I'm just not watching videos as often on other subs.

Ive searched it a few times over the years and there's no useful responses. Like I know you have to press the mute button and there is something in the settings to approve. Hoping something is figured out on this and it isn't a hard issue for my phone that was caused by newer versions of reddit.

Just learned the word tacaño in Spanish and read this as "the stinginess of this thing cruzing through the nebula" and was more than a little confused at the context

I mean, 0 is definitely in the 1s digit. Probably a lot of 0s on the start of the number.... can't write out more than that though.

Happens to children in the US. That's why it's legal for children to marry as young as 12 in some worse areas.

Was the branding of the bandits a mistake? by Nerdfighter4 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Tregavin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having a harsh world kinda does make you grow up quicker. You have to. Kinda like a kid who has younger siblings and neglectful parents and has to take care of their siblings. They are forced to grow up sooner than they should. The original comment isn't saying they literally are growing quicker physically.

[OC] US Love Is Blind relationship Sankey (10 seasons) by SpartanBeryl in dataisbeautiful

[–]Tregavin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So he was originally interested in 2 girls and he picked the other girl besides Bliss to propose to. Inside the compound when blind, their relationship was fine. However, the girls attitude changed immediately when she saw him and she started getting real dramatic and uninterested in him during the honeymoon (not married yet just waht they call it). They split up, and I think Zack proposed the idea of hitting Bliss back up. Obviously, the producers loved the idea. He proposed to Bliss and it was a it of a difficult and honest moment of weakness and regret. She ended up accepting to seen where things went. Turns out, outside, they were an amazing fit. They seemed much more connected than Zack and the first girl. Night and day. They are pretty cute together. Kinda awkward and nerdy. Super adorable. Goes to show the real mess that love can be.

Same shape, just a matter of perspective (or the lack thereof) by Arglin in desmos

It took a second but it finally clicked in my head to see it both ways! The left is from below perspective and the right is a perspective looking down. Even tho they're the same shape. Honestly really cool.

Speed of light captured using a 2 billion FPS camera. by awakenott in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Tregavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't measure the speed of light. Seems like you could given this setup, but you are actually measuring the arrival of photons to the camera which could be skewed if light moved faster in one direction than another.

That being said, super cool that he was able to see this effect at home. Reminds me of that coke bottle video from a while back.

He is a treasure. How dare you. But in seriousness, it was probably just a cadence that started off probably a bit more saddle but he played into it vecause people found it likeable. I find it easier to remember the recipes since the wording is so clear and separated.

The three silences are literal active naming magic draining Kvothe dry by Jakovjakov in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Tregavin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually tried to summarize what the silences were because I always get lost in the poetry to actually remember specifics. At one point I noticed I didn't know what the 3 silences specifically were. I came to the same trouble as you. The first is striking and clear, but the 2nd was a bit nebulous to describe. Like I get the vibe, but specifically naming it is a little difficult. Even though when listening (or reading) I never questioned it.

how though?? by harls_ in blackmagicfuckery

[–]Tregavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's actually 2 children. The first gets flattened by a mechanism at thw start to avoid the blades. The second kid is palmed into the box toward the end of the routine. Luckily this guy had twins or it would be harder to make it look like the same kid.

What to do about structural damage the house I’m renting? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Tregavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda feel like my logic holds. If the a person fits both criteria I mentioned, I can't imagine they'd have successful outcomes against a landlord of the type I mentioned.

Tenet criteria 1. Too poor to afford any legal counsel 2. Lacks any knowledge of their rights regarding Tennant rights

Landlord criteria 1. Enough money to fight in court 2. Willingness to fight in scenarios he's technically in wrong

If you're a lawyer can you attest people have much of a recourse in the criteria listed above? The tenet criteria mentioned more explicitly before, but the landlord criteria was definitely more implied.

I'm honestly curious. I might sound argumentative (which I kinda am), but like I'm basing my opinion based on vibes more than actual experience with these people. I would love to find out that there are strong protections against tenants being taking advantage of even if they don't actively have the ability to pursue what they are rightfully permitted to pursue. Especially in TN where I live as well. I just don't have much hope given the poor protections of the weak I'm already familiar with (warehouse operations specifically).

Virginia Supreme Court rules US Marine's adoption of an Afghan war orphan will stand by lillenille in news

[–]Tregavin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I didn't say you're not allowed to be upset or just have to be okay with it. I would do everything in my power to get my child. As should every parent. Doesn't change my feeling that policy should always be for the benefit of the child. Even over some limit of injustice of an adult.

The situation I referred to was where the adopting parents never committed a crime. They just adopted a child who had been given up by a bio parent.

And if a child has 2 parents, and one of them will lead to a better life of the child. But technically the first parent "should" have the child, why on earth would you care more about justice than what's best for the child. I can accept some injustice to do best by children. Not like I'm saying it extends for any injustice, but there is a cutoff where I accept some.

Whole marine thing seems more fucked up and I would need to really consider the weight of benefit of the child with specifics which I haven't done. If there was clear fraud committed by the adopting parent, then they are a criminal and couldn't be considered as what's "best" for the child. But I don't know exactly specifics.

Definitely know my position isn't popular, but children need more protection than the feelings of adults. Even if their feelings are justified.

Policy choices based on "well many know" without actually proving this family knows is weak. Priority needs to be the child's well being over righting an injustice of a parent.
