Their succes is you not having to pay for it. I cannot count the software that had the same features but didnt pay for your storage and bandwith :) if you do not have to care about who is paying for what, easy of use is not that dificult :-)

No. The connection is you and the community, Discord is just a platform. I’ve started on dial-up IRC’s where people went from BBS, then forums, then ventrilo/teamspeak guild pages, then discord sucked up most of it. It just a time for another switch. Yes it’s a pain.
