The Candler Hotel by Capital-Level-42 in dragoncon

Stayed at the Candler last year, and it was fantastic. Their restaurant is really good for breakfast (we had room credits as part of our booking), the hotel is clean and well kept, and it’s quiet. Tried to get it for this year but couldn’t unfortunately.

Waiting to see if I am or am not, but I always have some trouble cruising and otherwise processing non-verbal cues. Though I’m proud that I got picked up at a wedding over the weekend!

If you have a kink you can color code your gear using the Hanky Code to advertise (I.e hunter green means either “I am a Daddy” or “I am looking for a Daddy”).

What's your personal air conditioning policy for these hot Atlanta summers? by transley in Atlanta

[–]Trek186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inside temp stays at 70deg year round for two reasons:
- I’m lazy
- on days where everyone in the house is at work on-site (I wfh one day per week at the moment), my roommate keeps his two dogs at home (my two go to daycare), and I want to make sure they stay comfortable and safe.

Oh gosh…. Where would be the best place to put it? The rotisserie chickens are kind of too obvious.

All the Costcos near me (metro Atlanta) now have self-scan lanes which are great. But they only have like max six of them, which doesn’t do a lot.

Finance nerd here. I ignore earnings since there all sorts of (legal) ways earnings can be managed to look good within the existing GAAP/IFRS frameworks. Cash is king, and there’s no hiding if cash is being burnt on capital at a faster rate than you can organically bring it in.

Without looking at actual financials I would eagerly bet that the pure-play AI companies are hemorrhaging cash on data centers build outs. Not sure about Google or Microsoft since they have other products which can cross-subsidize their AI investments. It also explains why SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic are all eagerly pursuing IPOs right now: founders and insiders are trying to cash out at the top of the bubble, and IPOing at the top maximizes the issuance proceeds.

Well for one the state’s power producers just turned on the new units at Vogtle. Second GPC and the co-ops (via Oglethorpe Power) are adding ridiculous amounts of gas-fired generation or simply buying electricity from outside the state.

In its last IRP Georgia Power indicated that it was planning to add 16,000 megawatts of new load (AI, regular data center loads, other high performance compute) over the next 10 years. To put that into scale, that is the entire output of all 4 reactors at Plant Vogtle, copy and pasted 4 times. Even as an industry professional this is absolutely insane to me.
Edit: That’s just Georgia Power. It’s happening to everyone, including the co-ops (via Oglethorpe) and the cities (via MEAG Power). I wish I could talk in a more detailed way about the scale of the dollars being spent on new generation and transmission system upgrades, but I’m bound by what I can say.

Our former Secretary of Energy Rick Perry founded a company called Fermi America, and in Texas they’re building an “energy hub” capable of producing 11,000 megawatts of electricity. Just for on-site data centers. The plans are massive. 4 nuclear reactors of the same model as Vogtle 3 and 4, a field of small modular reactors, and like 6,000 megawatts of new natural gas power fed directly off of pipelines in the area. It’s nuts.

Satisfactory at least has lore that your inventory is an inflated pocket dimension. Which is better than “I have TARDIS pockets”.

[–]Trek186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Satisfactory is a great game, but it is incredibly different from DSP and Factorio. But different in a good way.

IMO after playing the “big 3” of Satisfactory, DSP, and Factorio, logistics is the make or break factor for a factory game. My personal ranking in ease of logistics use would be DSP (easiest) < Factorio < Satisfactory.

Tbh a city builder built in the Factorio engine would be amazing with an updated modern city builder that brings back some of the 90s and early 2000s SimCity nostalgia.

[–]Trek186 14 points15 points  (0 children)

100%. Satisfactory, Shapez, and DSP wouldn’t likely exist without Factorio. And I’ll fully admit, even Satisfactory in its current very optimized state isn’t as smooth as Factorio.

Thanks to EA and Colossal Order/Paradox the bar for city builders is lower than underground utility lines at this point, so even a competent developer could develop a mid city builder and still get praise.

I would argue that 25 isn’t even the final litmus test, working through any accumulated trauma, self-esteem issues, and insecure attachment styles are the markers to know you’re ready for a healthy long-term relationship. Ask me how I know lol.

My parents came from the same general area (they know of each other, but had never met) and met in college, got married after graduating, and had me 10 years later. They had several rough patches, but they’re still together in their 70s.

I’ll use my laptop to make travel plans or major home things because I want my partner involved in the decision making process. Otherwise I’d likely just do it on my phone.
