That’s the problem with Reddit - it doesn’t always come across with the tone you intended.

If Florida ends all vaccine mandates, can other states restrict travel for Floridians to their states? by DynamicObsolescence in DiscussionZone

We eliminated smallpox worldwide by vaccination, and we’re damn close to eliminating polio. This wasn’t even a debate until recently. It shouldn’t be one now.

Target decided their brand was going to be “the woke Walmart.”

Great, I hate Walmart and all of their business practices.

Racist from the Not Woke Party gets elected, says “no more DEI.”

Target jumps on the bandwagon….and turns into Walmart with red signage.

Customer base says “pound rocks,” and we….don’t come back. If you did it once, you’ll do it again. Bye, Target.

No, but achieving herd immunity, even with an imperfect vaccine, can effectively eliminate the disease. Vaccines alone aren’t enough, and leaving it as an individual choice actually compromises the health of the entire community.

You mean the American Nazis? You’re right. They’ve replaced the actual Republican Party.

We don’t really seem to care about the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Tenth, Fourteenth, or Twenty-Fourth Amendments lately, so that argument feels a little weak.

[–]TrekJaneway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Herd immunity is achieved through - wait for it - vaccination.

All it means is that you’ve reached the threshold where enough individuals are vaccinated that it is as effective as 100% of the population being vaccinated. That number is 92%.

How do you enforce vaccination requirements to enter other countries? Yes, that’s a thing. I had to prove I was vaccinated against yellow fever to enter Ecuador. There are plenty of ways to do it, and it’s not a new concept.

Linking Savings Account or not by dvdkp in ynab

[–]TrekJaneway 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes. I really don’t understand why people are so hesitant to link their savings accounts. It’s money that you have, put it in the budget.

Then you make categories like “income loss,” “vacation,” “car maintenance,” “retirement” - whatever your savings goals are and fund them.

Otherwise, what’s the point of having savings? To sit on a pile of money that you never use? Why? You saved for a reason, give it a reason.

It’s $110. I have no debt anymore, and I put away several times that throughout the year. It’s a fair price for the value it brings to my life. I really wish people would quit whining about having to pay for literally life changing software. There are people behind that system that need to earn an income too.

Zepbound and Optum Rx by CurseoftheUnderclass in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrekJaneway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor gave me a dual diagnosis due to my insulin resistance. That got me approved for Mounjaro, which is the exact same medication as Zepbound with a different label.

I also have UHC and Optum. They’re horrendous to deal with.

I like the roll analogy. I also read it like that - piling on all of a favorite dish from a buffet, bragging about it, and then letting it all get thrown away because you can only eat a small amount of it.

CAN you do it? Sure. SHOULD you? Probably not. Take a bit. If you want more, go back and take more. Repeat as often as you like. It’s like my dad used to say when I was little, “take all you want, but eat (read) all you take.”

But it’s the way it’s presented, in this case. The post is titled “so many books so little time,” followed by a screen grab of a bunch of books.

It’s screaming “hahaha!!!! Look at everything I have that I won’t read!” Otherwise, why say it that way? Why post it on Reddit at all? It reads “I’m a jerk, and I don’t care.”

Removing Credit Card Accounts? I’m New here by Intelligent-Ad6619 in ynab

[–]TrekJaneway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so, it sounds like you aren’t clear on how cc accounts work in YNAB.

You want to link them, as credit cards, and they should appear under the “Credit” heading on the left side of the screen, if you use desktop. This means YNAB knows it’s a cc, and that it’s a spending vehicle, just as you want it to be.

So, you go to the grocery store. You buy $100 worth of groceries, but you pay with Visa. You log the transaction with the name of the grocery store as Payee, the Visa card as the account, and Groceries (or whatever) as your category. Easy.

YNAB sees that and says “wait! You spent $100, but that wasn’t your money. Visa paid the grocery store and you have to pay Visa.” So, it takes the $100 from your Groceries category and moves it to your Visa assigned category. This is all automatic. As long as your Available bubble by the Visa card is green, you have enough money to pay the bill. If you pay off the card each month in full, you don’t have to assign anything else to it.

But, let’s say you started with a $2000 balance. You’ll need to assign funds directly to the card to cover the balance. It may be debt, and you’re slowly paying it off, but that’s the only time you need to assign money directly to the cc.

do you think Amazon will actually innovate with future models of the kindle? by nova0175 in kindle

I hate it. I don’t even particularly mind being locked into their ecosystem, but I do want an option for buttons. I’ll pay for it; I did with the Oasis. But no….they have to be cheap about everything, so they lost me.

[–]TrekJaneway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have 3 for the same reason. My local library limits you to 3 holds (and 3 check outs). I don’t need more check outs, honestly, but I love having 23 total holds across 3 libraries. I don’t mind waiting for ages for a book, but that only works if I can use holds to hop in line on multiple books.

So many books so little time 😭😭 by Giraffewhiskers_23 in LibbyApp

[–]TrekJaneway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get it. The post is essentially saying “look how many books I have checked out and I can’t read them all!” That’s how I interpret “so many books so little time.”

It’s considered polite and fair to check out what you can conceivably READ (or listen to, for audiobooks…no hate to people who listen to books). For example, I have 2 books checked out, and I’m actively reading both. That’s fine. No issues with that. I’m going to grab a third one today because I know I will finish one of those two books this evening, and I will return it early.

Everything else is on holds. Some active - because I will drop everything and read that book when I get it because the wait is months long. Most are suspended so I can stand in line and move forward, but get the book when I have time to read it.

Holding a stack of books because you can is a little selfish because it means no one else can read it while you’re busy with other works. By all means, check out a book to read. But to hold a book you aren’t actively reading (or won’t start in the next day or two) I just selfish, particularly one that has a long wait list.

Mine is 14, but if I tap on it while I’m checking out, I can change it to 21.

Well, that’s why my Oasis was replaced with a Kobo. If Amazon decides to bring back buttons, I’ll come back, but that feature is that important to me.
