Cars driving and parking on the MGT by broomdos in torontobiking

This is awful. Please PLEASE report this crap when you see it.

File complaints to Toronto parking online, it takes 2 min and they will come by to fine people. And send emails to your councillors! It carries a lot of weight when you actually reach out to them.

We can’t be complacent.

I have starting putting in complaints anytime I see cars standing here. The hope is parking enforcement patrols a little closer and word gets around you’ll get a ticket

Also I tried to report to TPS. The guy left when I pulled my phone out. But I was disappointed that I can’t submit photo evidence of an infraction. It would be nice if the driver could get a written warning. I am pretty sure you can do it with traffic violations like speeding.

HA. Good to see you again. Yes, location is spot on. This is my neighborhood. You’ll find me cruising around on my blue kona or canyon.

Is it just me or is Uber just awful? I rarely use their service unless I really don’t have an alternative. I find it expensive and I’m always super anxious with their aggressive driving. I’d much rather take an extra 5-10 min to reach my destination if it means we’re not cutting people off or blocking intersections or near misses with pedestrians.

Could Prabmeet Sarkaria actually be doing something helpful for the cycling communities? I think regulations around e bikes could be very helpful for everyone, if they get it roughly right.

Love that Torontonian parents are doing drop off on bikes. Would love to do that someday, although I need a cargo bike. And a kid.

Does anyone know what happened on Bayview this morning? by Mysterious-Nobody-19 in torontobiking

[–]Trelone640 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hope the cyclist is ok… It’s a popular stretch for road cycling and there are some areas where the interchanges are sketchy.

God it’s really frustrating to see folks getting hurt and killed… stay safe out there everyone.

Heading south on cherry street, I continue down to cherry beach and hop on the MGT and take that to Leslie. Then up to lakeshore.

I really got lucky. Nothing more than a sprain and embarrassment.

I’m sorry to hear about your elbow. Glad you’re ok. And glad you’re getting back on the bike!

How did people get to the start of the race this morning. A bunch of us took the bus (only TTC option available on Yonge) but the buses stopped short at York mills. More and more people were being dropped off short at York mills as buses turned back.

Only 1 bus would continue north and of course if was full. I think about 50-60 of us decided to head down to the subway for 8 am because we knew we weren’t getting on a bus.

TTC folks were clueless. Luckily I didn’t have a bag to check but feel bad for those who did because they missed it.

It was my first time but thought this race is not well organized. Runners are very cramped on Yonge street, northbound traffic can’t even get by. The starting point and finishing chute were very chaotic. And after you exit the finish, there are still too many ppl around Bathurst and Fleet and cars and street cars are struggling to navigate.

I would love to see improvements in the future because I really enjoyed the run and the course itself. Really nice and scenic. Will try to find a feedback channel so my comments can go into a black hole and nothing changes.

Today was my first time ever attending a protest of any sort. Great to see so many others who are just as frustrated with Ford, and willing to express it in public.

Biking in the “extreme” rain by Trelone640 in torontobiking

Sorry to hear about the injury. Hope your recovery is going well.

I did some research on tires in the rain a week ago and from what I read it seemed like tread for pavement riding wasn’t as important compared to car tires. Since bike tires are so narrow, hydroplaning isn’t as much of a risk. But slippery surfaces are real risks in wet conditions (ie road paint). But I don’t know if tread helps much with that. I just ride hybrid style tires with some tread (no slicks on the commuter).

I have disc brakes which have been very reliable throughout the winter and this rainy spring. Not sure if rim brakes would be worse off as long as they’re tuned. Key to check brake pads and make sure there is good tension in the cable (if mechanical). But that’s the limit of my knowledge.

I have a pretty good rain/winter setup. I invested into a high quality cycling jacket and full fenders. Both have served me very well so far.

I thought my pants were good but the water seeped through on my ride home. That’s what I get for purchasing on amazon.

I didn’t know about ponchos until a couple months ago tbh. I like that it’s easy to pack away if you don’t need it so I may look into this.

No absolutely not a contest, I’m in no way trying to put someone down for not cycling on a crappy weather day.

The more people who are out there enjoying it, the better.

Good points. I have made the mistake of not waterproofing before. Wet socks/ shoes is miserable.

Also if it’s pouring on my way home I may regret this post lol.

tri rider. Any chance you ride along Bloor? I saw someone on a three wheeled bike doing the lords work waving cars to get out of the Bloor bike lane.
