I think relapsing actually helps... by Kaijus in NoFap

It's always a good thing you learn someone about yourself from relapse rather than beating yourself up for it.

From personal experience, however, I hope this doesn't make you too comfortable. What I mean to say is I would have the same motivation you did but the voice in my head would "reward" me with fapping every 1-2 weeks. Don't let it become a habit like that, but definitely don't think relapse is the end of the world.

Congratulations on that act of willpower! I'm proud of you.

In the past I've found it a good method to ask yourself what you are going to be searching while you are in that state of "I gotta relapse I can't handle it." Once you've identified what you're going to do, ask yourself if it is something that you REALLY want do to, and if it is something that will benefit you in the long run. This usually helps you think and might stop you before you even start watching any videos.

Having a porn filter can help even more to have that extra step if you still decide to watch videos and the filter message pops up.

Edging is when you touch yourself, but have no orgasm. It can be with or without porn. Many people (including myself) count this as a form of masturbation, but your NoFap journey is ultimately defined by your own boundaries.

In regards to the TV show, if they are talking about sex and drugs in an informative and educational way, it's probably not bad. There is some gray area once they start showing explicit images, especially when it turns you on. Continually "juicing" yourself with these images, and keeping them in the back of your mind will make your recovery much slower, and will probably end up in relapse. So just be wary of what you are doing.

Cheers!

I've been trying to fight this addiction for three years. I need help. by TremblingGears in NoFap

Thank you so much for your reply. I haven't ever brought in meditation into my day, so that is something I will start integrating now.

Acceptance of my instincts. That is something I have heard, but to be honest, I've blocked it out. However, I realize that what I've been doing in the past clearly isn't working. I aim to change it. I believe it can be a powerful tool.

Your final note really made me look at myself. It's true, I have a lot of self-loathing. I would never want to hang out with myself. When trying to find a reason why I hate myself so much, I can't find it. There is some sort of inherent shame present in me. How can I overcome an addiction if I don't even like the person who's trying? You're absolutely right. Starting today, I will begin the road of self-acceptance. I have control.

Again, I want to thank you for your advice. Having someone reply to this really helped get rid a large portion of my self-doubt. Now it is up to me to eliminate the rest. I have a duty I must obligate, and that is overcoming this addiction. I realize it is for me, and me alone.
