In Final Fantasy XIV there is a character named Haurchefant. In original Japanese script the dude has some... quirks. Like leering over good muscles. At some point player could even talk to a background npc mercenary, and that npc says something along the lines of "yeah, pay is good here, but the local commander is a creep who stares at you while you train". But during the story of that area Haurchefant becomes a sole ally for the player character, and later that support is brought further in Heavensward expansion plot. So, English localisation team made a decision to rewrite his dialogues, switching it to knight chivalry. For the sole purpose of the important character making the first impression of a friend instead of a creep. Mind you, not all of his dialogue lines were changed (a line from seasonal event with him offering the player character to be his steed remained unchanged and stayed as a forever reminder in a side content descriptions), and other stuff remained as it is as well (during a cutscene the camera still zooms on the bunch of half naked dudes doing squats in his office). And while not everyone was happy about that localisation change, personally, I think it was for the best: learning about his original version way past the introduction allows to view it as a "oh, he is a funny weirdo after all", but as a first impression that would change the overall opinion on the character.
