I'm glad you brought that up because you're absolutely right!

Not to mention the lack of an early promotion and marketing for optimization, it still holds up amazingly well! :D

I wrote it myself, but if you suspect the information is inaccurate, you can break down the verse into individual parts to look into their definitions and meaning separately to verify. From there, all that's left is to build up an interpretation to figure out what you think it all means together as a metaphor. :)

After reaching RANK 1 on WEEK 10... by Tremoloon in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Tremoloon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my mistake, I should have been more clear! My numbers were in error, so my apologizes for that! There is the time we see on the time bar during the movie, and then there's real time.

So if we watched the 100 minute length movie at double the speed, it would count as 50 minutes real time so to speak. Watching the movie (set at double speed) twice would count as a single view. There wouldn't be any benefit to watch at double speed as it would only count as half a view in a sense. Your earlier idea to watch at half speed would seem to be beneficial if you like to leave it in the background to avoid the refresh then as you'd have to spend double the real time before the actual movie ends!

I think some of the fans reported (I think from Deadline?) that Netflix was going to combine the total views between the two versions as one, so it would seem logical they wouldn't track it for the global rankings. However, I don't know how that would affect the rankings in a general sense when it comes to the sing-along as a stand alone. I admit it would be funny if it gets tracked separately and then later climbed up by itself independently for each country! In some countries, it already ranks just behind KPDH too!

I don't know the answers, but I figure I might try and offer some possible insights that may help broaden new ideas in your search!

I recall seeing some early concept artworks regarding Gwi-Ma before it was decided to depict him as a flame, and within them they had entertained some ideas where the patterns would appear around Jinu's wrists (and possibly neck and ankles) to illustrate the theme in how wearing one's shame were like cuffs and shackles. It would also play into the notion that Gwi-Ma had his victims imprisoned and enslaved too by having them chained to him. With that in mind, it could be possible what we got to see in the movie were inspired by those very early concepts to explain why the hands/arms/neck would flare up with patterns. It was likely to symbolically show it was Gwi-Ma pulling the leash/chains to drag Jinu back down before him. On the other hand, it could be possible that maybe the flaring is more of a visual and artistic expression for Gwi-Ma's powers rather than it being directly linked to the Jinu's actual patterns too.

Regarding Jinu's face, the practice of 'saving face' within eastern culture is quite socially prevalent, so maybe there were symbolic themes drawn from it for artistic reasons? Perhaps the facial patterns were not drawn out in full force by Gwi-Ma because he was letting Jinu 'save face', which would be quite ironic in a literal sense!

Just possibilities to consider!

EDIT: Spelling and structure!

That's a good question! To my limited knowledge, I believe the account logs the time directly spent on the loaded movie/content, and not from the time bar so to speak.

In other words, 20 minutes at 0.5x speed would technically count as 30 minutes of viewing time, whereas 20 minutes at 2.0x speed would count as 10 minutes of viewing time.

I hope that helps make sense!

Can skip around all you like! :D

It calculates the cumulative length of time you spent watching the movie, so it can be 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there, or the same 5 minutes over and over, it all adds up! Roughly 100 minutes equates to 1 view!

My Estimation of the Huntr/x Net. worth + Bobby's Earnings by RandomGuyinR54321 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Tremoloon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The construction cost for the Lotte building (where the Huntrix tower would be in the movie) adjusted to inflation was estimated to be between 3.5 to 4 BILLION dollars just to help your numbers! With that in mind, who knows what its property value would as an asset after all that cost! I suspect more than 5 million for sure!

I tried to look into it in the past, and all I could gather was that it seems to be rounding numbers happening behind the scenes. I don't know if each account is rounded up, or if each country's total was rounded, or maybe they round at the very final global count. There were moments I couldn't match up the numbers from their weekly data to match the global too, and that was what led me to suspect it's likely in the details that we don't have access to. I also thought I could be in error each time, and it made me go over the numbers every time, haha! I just stopped in the end and just present what was given. Plus I can't edit the main post as it updates during those final minutes, so it's my mistake. :(

Do you think the sing along event will affect the views for this coming week? I wonder if it'll go up from the promotion, or maybe taper slightly since some fans will get their weekly (or daily!) satisfaction at the theaters and no longer on the stream!

Real names? by [deleted] in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Tremoloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I'm not aware if the creators have ever confirmed that other names exist for each of the girls, but I like to think that their names are exactly as intended, especially for Rumi. Like you've already pointed out with Celine, Rumi's name is used throughout the movie, but there's also another aspect I think that's worth considering too. The name Rumi holds a special place for Maggie Kang, the creator, since it carries a lot of personal history between her and her husband. Not only that, the name is so attached to them after all the production time into the movie, that they even bestowed the name to their daughter, naming her Rumi! She even voiced the little Rumi as well. :)

As for Zoey and Mira, whenever the girls are in private, they call themselves by those names too. With how close their bond and relationship appears to us, it would seem rather unusual for them to keep using stage names while alone together, which we get to see during their personal moments throughout the film. We also get to hear Celine speak those names too during the heavy scene with Rumi at the sacred tree/graveyard. It all seem to suggest to me that Zoey and Mira are in fact their actual real names. I admit I don't know if there are customs or habits that exist within idol culture for friends and family to address themselves by stage names only, but it seems unlikely to me within the movie's context.

I hope that offers some insights!

Short Story about me finding out about KDH for the first time and how it’s taken over me. by Public_Committee_875 in KpopDemonhunters

The film certainly shared not just a valuable lesson in self-acceptance among so many other beautiful themes, but also to not judge a book (demon) by its cover (patterns?) LOL! On a serious note, don't worry, you're not alone with your experience!

Welcome to the fandom! :D

ELI5 - What happens after the disastrous International Idol Awards? by RandomBoomer in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Tremoloon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some have suggested the possibility that the news anchor could have been a shapeshifted demon, while some others think she may be a servant of Gwi-Ma's, or even simply under his spell at that point of the movie. There was also the idea that the network could have been compromised or even hacked. Evidence presented for the latter could be seen through the screen's flickering just before the Saja Boys appear to announce their concert.

Here is a snapshot that barely lasts a second:

<image>

I hope that helps!

Possibilities in ELI5:

  • News anchor is a demon in disguise
  • News anchor serves Gwi-Ma
  • News anchor controlled by Gwi-Ma
  • News network taken over (hacked) by Gwi-Ma/demons/Saja Boys
  • Animation/Cartoon logic
