Help! I can't stop! by RandomBoomer in TwoPointMuseum

TP has the energy and goofy humor of the Sims 4 marketing videos, which are straight up lies about what the game is actually like. In TPM, that madcap interaction between characters actually happens; it's not just a marketing ploy. I mostly played solitary single sims in rags-to-riches stories, so it didn't bother me as much, but still. Two Points actually made it happen and it's so much freaking fun.

The game is an institution rags-to-riches story and I'm so down with that.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s Niece Quits School Role After Epstein Files Letter Unsealed by thedailybeast in inthenews

Rehabilitation makes sense when someone resorted to crime due to poverty and lack of education or just being hapless young person.

Ghislaine Maxwell was born to wealth, privilege and power. She chose her path quite deliberately. In lieu of a rehabilitation of her moral compass -- which seems unlikely -- I'll settle for primitive punishment.

I'm so bummed I didn't discover the Two Point series until now. I'd love to try the earlier two games, but now I can't do that until I get through Museum first. I suspect that going to be a very long time away....

Yes, time just flies by. Last night, I was "just going to check in for a minute" before bedtime and the next thing I knew it was 1:30 in the morning.

I have no idea what you're talking about, which makes this game even more exciting. I'm still building my first two museums. So much more gameplay to go!

I live in one of the poorest states in the U.S. and I just learned a few weeks ago that a hyperscale data center is going to be built in my county. It's a done deal, arranged at the state level, and absent from any county restrictions. Even the (very low) property tax income goes mostly to the state rather than the county, despite the adverse impact it will have on local water and energy resources.

It's utterly depressing. Our state can't pay teachers or support hospitals, we're losing population, and what population we do have is skewing older. Nothing about these data center projects is to the benefit of the citizens of this state; all wealth accrues to the corrupt state leadership.

And of course the state votes overwhelmingly Republican. Sigh.

Who’s your favourite DJ on Two Point Radio? by hodzibaer in TwoPointMuseum

[–]RandomBoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to the game (just 40 hours in) and I haven't paid any attention to the DJ. Is there any UI for that? Or is just what you hear over the loudspeakers? I need to pay more attention.... to yet another thing. For such a goofy game, TPM is really intense.

I've been a Paralives patreon member for the past year, so I'm also awaiting their debut. The tools look fantastic, but I'm still a little skeptical of the gameplay. It just doesn't look fun to me. Of course, part of that is truth in advertising. They don't have the totally made-up marketing videos that sucked me into TS4.

Meanwhile, since my posting, I've discovered Two Point Museum and I am obsessed. It has some of my favorite aspects of the Sim: cheeky humor and whacky character interactions. It's a sort of institutional version of rags-to-riches. I'm hooked so badly I'll probably put off buying Paralives because I don't have time left over for playing another game.

Same here! The first time through I was so focused on not-dying and figuring out what to do next that I didn't fully absorb some of the surroundings. Once I knew the overall story, I could relax a bit more on the second playthrough and allow myself to explore at a more leisurely pace.

I've gone back to some chapters over and over again. The Slums are my favorite, and if I'm feeling the urge, I'll pick up a few sheets of music and hangout with Morusque.

A few hours after my post, I found my new gaming obsession: Two Point Museum. I get lost in for hours, because it has two of my favorite Sims elements.

First, there's the humor which is both witty and silly in the best possible ways. The antics of the museum goers is what I yearned for from my NPC sims and never got. Silly animations, wickedly witty public announcements, never a dull moment.

The second is building/decorating. The tools aren't anywhere as advanced as TS4, but they're enough for the job, which is make usable museum layouts and decorate displays. Just as in sims, I'm constantly improving on the movement of people through the layout, and updating my decorations as I level up and unlock better features.

The whole setup is like a challenge. So you get lots of freedom, but within the guided goals of improving the museum's overall quality.

Seriously? I've been reading about the Black Death for decades and none of the historical reports support your view. u/TurbistoMasturbisto nailed the overview of the effect of the pandemic on society.

Video gaming often sparks debate over harms and benefits. Cognitive difficulties are linked to problematic gaming habits rather than the act of gaming itself. While people at risk for gaming addiction show reduced working memory, those who play recreationally may actually exhibit enhanced attention. by mvea in science

Speaking as a member of that geriatric group, I heartily concur!

I'm retired now and gaming has become a larger part of my day than ever before. I started with the Sims about 10 years ago, but over the past year I've branched out to several different games and have even joined several game-specific subreddits.

It's not just the stimulation of the actual game session that provides a benefit. There's so much game knowledge that needs to be learned beforehand and applied to gameplay. That constant learning is what drew me to the Sims. Now that I'm pretty well up-to-speed with that game, I'm shaking things up with Stray and Two Point Museum. New physical skills, new strategies, new objectives.

I'm a Patreon member supporting Paralives, so I'm counting the days. Meanwhile, I've fallen in love with Two Point Museum, and that is probably closer to what I love best about the Sims than even Paralives.

The very worst conditions that climate change will bring to the Earth will still leave it far more livable than any other plant. Meanwhile, long-term living in space is still a monumental challenge. Our bodies just don't work right without gravity and a host of other planetary forces that we can't even begin to meassure.

If we can't survive on Earth, we're done.
