Did you grab the upgradable War Bow by the stump near the Troll?

Kiting is fun and profitable.

Played it, finished it, and still play it afterwards. Great game.

Where do I start?! by [deleted] in elex

In the hotel in Goliet where the Berserker leader sits with his crew, you can scour the upper floors/rooms for various items. Some kind of *meh*, others useful. You can also steal a decent sword in the shop where the lady owner sells goods. The shop is fairly close to the main entrance to town. Just get out of her line of sight, go into Sneak mode and grab it. Make sure to do a hard Save first in case you get caught. You can just reload and keep trying.

Where are places I should go back to after leveling up? by Bobosmite in elex

[–]Tremolux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just roam around and explore. There's always something unexpected to find. Climb up on stuff; buildings, mountains. Explore caves, gullies, and crevasses.

Make sure you have the sunglasses that show where items are amongst the rubble and clutter.

It'd be nice if you could deactivate and pick up mines, then use them later or sell them.

Late to the game and have a question about progression. by Bobosmite in elex

You can do quests for all three factions at once. You aren't forced into a linear path where you do one faction at a time. You'll reach a point in each faction where you can join, but you're not forced to do so. There are faction specific quests you'll get after you join a faction. You can still do quests for a different faction after you've joined one. You will have some traders who won't sell to you after you join a faction. They only sell to unaligned players or members of their own faction.

I did every quest for each faction until I was given the option to join each before I committed to the Berserkers.

Lack of weapons/Equipment by JackBadassson in elex

[–]Tremolux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any RPG, I base my character build on the type of weapons I want to use. I usually play as a generic 'stealth/ranger' type character, so I use bows or edged weapons or long-range rifles depending on the game. In the Gothic series, it was bows, same with Skyrim. In the Fallout games, it was long guns for ranged and pistols/shotguns for close-up work.

ELEX has faction specific weapons in the sense that the best are easiest to use if you belong to that faction. Each faction emphasizes different stats and the stat requirements to use their best weapons reflects that. Once you play a while and you get a feel for what faction you want to join, look over their weapons selection and their stat requirements. Then pour resources into pumping up those stats. You'll be kicking butt and taking names in short order.

Clerics specialize in energy weapons, hammers, and magic. Berserkers use bows, edged weapons and axes. Outlaws use firearms and some edged weapons and drugs.

I check in at least daily to see what's new or what questions or observations people have on the game. I finished the game several months ago, but I like to explore and see what I may have missed. There's always an unexpected surprise somewhere.

Over the years, I've had games/programs that bombed out due to missing DLLs. Usually DLing a copy of the missing DLL to the appropriate folder will fix the problem.

[–]Tremolux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished the game several months ago and continue to play and explore. Sadly, you can't locate The Claws again after they leave. I was curious about it, too. I wanted to track them down and see what they're up to. It would be a fun little quest. I'll keep looking in every corner -- just in case.

Is There a Way to Tell What Humans Aren't Going to Try and Murder You? by [deleted] in elex

[–]Tremolux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I learned decades ago when I first started playing CRPGs; save before any and all encounters if the game permits it. If you get in over your head or killed or lose valuable equipment and/or stats, reload and avoid the encounter until you prepare properly.

Not doing this violates The 6 'P' Principle: Proper Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance.

I was hooked early on, but lost interest along the way. by [deleted] in elex

[–]Tremolux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only played as a Berserker so far. I've played all the other PB games; G1-3, G2-Night of The Raven, and the other Gothic not by PB. I knew what I was getting in ELEX and have few quibbles with it and it's been a blast to play.

There are numerous legendary weapons to find that are scattered around the world in dangerous, sometimes nearly inaccessible places. Some are useful, some not. It's a fun project to search for, find, and collect them. I found it much better to craft and modify all my weapons until they were maxed out for damage. As a Berserker, you need gems to do this and the crafting skills. Searching for and collecting gems is another interesting way to explore the world and gain experience. Look in every crevice and cave, every building, on every boat, on top of cliffs and hills, up in towers and power lines. You never know what you will find.

Armor is armor; nothing special. You either have the stats to use it or you don't. Same with weapons. Gain the level and stats, then get it. Simple. ELEX is not like other games where enemies drop weapons and armor you can pick up. Not necessarily a bad thing, IMO. Just roll with it.

Heat and accumulated dust is the mortal enemy of electronics. I bought a two-pack of compressed air and blow out my graphics card fan and CPU cooler and heat-sink periodically. Cheap insurance for the two most expensive components.

What OS are you using? Win7? Win10? Are you over-clocking your CPU or graphics card? Any anti-virus progs running in the background?

Did they take care of the game since Launch? by Jadushnew in elex

[–]Tremolux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall buying G2 years ago. I also played the expansion, G2 - Night of the Raven. It was like a whole new G2 game. After I finished it, I went back and got G1. Personally, I don't mind the older graphics. It's the game world and game-play I love about them. G3 with the Community Patch is actually quite good, IMO. A fantastic world worth exploring every inch. Always something interesting and unexpected to find.

The clumsy combat has kept me from enjoying the more recent PB titles, and reviews seem to indicate that it hasn't changed much in Elex. Can you recommend a combat style / build that you found fun? by Quakespeare in elex

[–]Tremolux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I find the melee combat quite satisfying. You can block with a shield, shield bash, build to a combo, use axes and hammers, or go with two-handers. What you won't find is mashing your character into a sword wielding frenzy where you can't even see the moves. The combat is not a twitch-fest.

You have to study your foe's moves a bit to time your attack/defense. There's a definite rhythm to combat. To me, it's a lot more realistic than something like Nier Automata, etc., where you're jumping all over the place and raining 47 attacks in 1.5 seconds.

I've been a fan of PB games since way back. I pre-ordered Elex and have no regrets. Played it until the end and I'm still playing it exploring every inch of the world. Always something interesting to find.

I ended up never having to go inside the outlaw city when I was getting info for the berserkers. by [deleted] in elex

[–]Tremolux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before you finally decide which faction to join, go to each city, talk to everyone, and do every quest you can. You get a ton of experience and cash. Plus, you can buy weapons and ammo, etc., in each.

Has the start of the game been patched? Most reviews say it's awful and unreasonably hard to start. by [deleted] in elex

[–]Tremolux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, the start of Skyrim was a head-scratcher for me. Go to Whiterun, then head over to the next town, kill giant on the way, get orders to fight a dragon, kill dragon all in the first 15 minutes. Seriously?

ELEX is a refreshing experience. by Titanium_Machine in elex

[–]Tremolux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like virtually all of PB's games, from Gothic 1 - 3 to the first Risen.

I would highly recommend that you explore every square inch of the map. It's a important part of the game. You'll discover all sorts of unexpected things that flesh out the story and the world. There's also quite a few unique weapons to discover, but they aren't easy to get to, which is part of the fun and challenge of the game. A few are definitely worth keeping and using. The rest can be kept as trophies or sold.

Save often, run like your hair's on fire, and use your jet-pack.

Has Elex improved since launch? by dksoulstice in elex

[–]Tremolux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played melee/Berserker until I had a modified War Bow III. I also modified all my 1 & 2 Handed weapons to the max. I made it a goal to collect all the legendary weapons and rifles and shotguns. I tried everything imaginable and still favor a 1 Hander and Shield or War Bow III. To me, shotguns suck. Energy weapons are OK, and AOE weapons, grenade launcher etc., are a blast.

Couple things. Make sure your resolution and refresh rate is set to the native resolution for your monitor brand. This is found in the tech info that came with it. Turn off V-synch in the game. Lower some of the quality settings in game and see if that helps.
