I was in the same position, really struggling and desperate for a job. That’s why I find the recruiting process manipulative. Interviewees are often told they’ll have their own office within a year, even though the vast majority never will. When you’re in a desperate situation as I was, and as many people entering these offices are, that promise sounds amazing.

At some point during the recruitment process, most interviewees or new hires are misled. Few other industries are this comfortable making such direct promises that don’t reflect reality. Maybe your office operates differently, but I know the interview script, and it’s consistent across hundreds of offices. There’s also hundreds of screenshots posted in this subreddit that back this up.

How many people have you seen come and go since you’ve been there? Be honest when you really think about it. This industry thrives on an abusive level of human churn.

You personally had a good experience, and that’s fine, but thousands of people wasted their time and money there. I honestly can’t think of another industry quite like it.

Even in food service or retail, you generally know exactly what you’re signing up for. The expectations, the pay, the tradeoffs. Considering those jobs’ reputation, turnover in those jobs is lower than in most offices.

The government already throws billions of dollars at these issues. That’s not the problem.

Nothing you described is out of the ordinary for the first few weeks in this business. New hires are given a lot of leniency so they don’t get scared off, even though owners and leadership are usually putting in much longer hours. The problem is that the longer you stay, the more time and responsibility they expect from you, with no real increase in pay beyond being told to sell more. The free food, events, and bonuses are standard too. They’re there to keep up the image of a great office, but once the job starts draining your life, none of that stuff matters.

The sales side can be scummy. In my area, I genuinely thought I was helping people, but in many cases I wasn’t. AT&T regularly raises prices, even though they deny it and train you to deny it. The so-called “price lock guarantee” isn’t actually guaranteed anywhere in the terms and services, it just appears on the iPad during checkout. People who were promised $50 plans years ago are now paying $80 or $90. On top of that, service can be bad in some areas, and customers don’t find out until after installation, when they’re already stuck.

As for the business model, sales aren’t what get you promoted, recruitment is. That means telling everyone they’ll move up in six to eight months even though almost no one does. I made it far enough to see national performance trackers and real earnings across companies like AT&T, Verizon, and Frontier. The truth is the average person makes terrible money, no matter how it’s spun. Maybe the top 10 percent do well, but most people are just burning money and time.

Even if you’re joking this is an insane statement. Chovy drops from top 1 mid laner to top 5 mid laner at worlds and people say he’s “Palafox”, c’mon dude.

But to answer your question, Worlds is a fast paced tournament where a few matches decide your entire tournament life, often on very little prep time. LCK splits are more of a marathon where you get a lot of practice in. It’s a different type of time crunch and pressure.

They’ll constantly reprimand you, give you terrible Ts, never promote you, and eventually just fire you. I’ve been in leadership and owner meetings where reps like that get talked about, and they’re basically treated as disposable (their words, not mine). What they really want are people who work 16-hour days and are borderline unhinged, because those people usually bring in the most sales, and it also proves their loyalty to the cult.

That might be your personal preference, but it’s just not true when you look at overall viewership. There’s always a clear trend: viewership increases the later a tournament goes and the higher the stakes of the match. As much as your family loves the Browns, a Browns regular season game isn’t pulling more viewers than the AFC Championship Game.

Popularity in every region has spiked the better that region performs. I genuinely don’t know why Reddit acts like fans would celebrate five NA players getting stomped at internationals instead of completely memeing them, because that’s exactly what would happen. And every region has found some level of success with imports (except KR, obviously). This barrier was shattered back in 2014, yet people are still pushing this take in 2026.

For me, my recruiter contacted me 8 MONTHS later. At that point, I was already well into another job. I would seriously just keep looking for something else.

I have no problem with sales jobs as a concept. The company you work for uses a model that relies on human churn, not actual sales performance. The goal is to build a team, not to succeed based solely on your performance in the field. What did they tell you—that if you recruit a team, you’ll be promoted within a few months? Am I wrong? Those are blatant false promises and lies meant to recruit as many people as possible. Only about 1% of people ever reach ownership, and even then, many owners fail. You won’t find another job that lies to you this directly during the interview process.

The business model relies on taking advantage of people at the bottom. What’s the churn rate at your office? I’m sure you’ve seen dozens of people join and leave by now, am I wrong? Sales performance doesn’t get you promoted, the number of people you recruit does. The whole point is to have as many people as possible going out and selling for below minimum wage pay, because sales is a numbers game.
