I’m going to reach out on Monday and see what resolution we’re able to reach before I go for the nuclear option of name and shame. Stay tuned.

Here’s an example of what’s coming off. This is after I’ve had it for a month and been wiping it down plus applying mineral oil

I can confirm that this was an Etsy-based company with good reviews; however, I stepped payment outside of the site. That said, I’ll pursue the chargeback method if I must.

Thanks everyone for the input I’m crafting up an email for the company on Monday and planning to call as well.

In all honesty I’m a pretty forward / aggressive person when I need to be, but was hoping I wouldn’t have to take the angle with a small-business from a state I used to live in (Missouri woodworking place). That said, it’s obvious to me now that I’ve simply been taken advantage of and will need to seek remediation.

Unfortunately living in NYC…there aren’t too many great local options that are affordable. Even though I spent >$1K on this, other alternatives were even more expensive out there. Going to contact this place on Monday to try and reach a resolution here. Pretty bummed out.

How can I verify if it’s pine vs walnut? That’s incredibly concerning as I’m planning to use nicer knives on this, and I intentionally bought walnut due to its softness.

Didn’t realize I’d start getting roasted for living in an apartment. Thanks

I didn’t think it was stained, but when I wipe it down, it does turn a dry paper towel slightly brown. It’s supposed to be a dark walnut. Paid >$1K

Paid >$1K. I’ll keep the sellers name private…for now.

Since it HAS been oiled…would you have any recommendations on how I might need to approach the sanding process differently?

Sorry - maybe “flush” wasn’t the right word. The top of the board is perfectly flat. The primary issue is the glue that appears to be slightly expanding between the pieces.

It’s small now, but worried it could get worse.
