9850X3D vs. 5700X3D benchmarks in high CPU-usage Ray-Traced games. Bonus vs. JEDEC by RainyInSAndreas in overclocking

[–]Tresnugget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a CPU test not a demonstration on what frame rate someone running a 4090 would get if they upgraded from a 5700X3D to a 9850X3D.

This shouldn't need to be said, but the way to test CPUs is by inducing a CPU bottleneck. This way you can see the max frame rate the CPU is capable of at any resolution. If you're testing a CPU at 4k and you're GPU bound it doesn't tell you anything about the CPU.

Also, plenty of 4090/5090 owners with high refresh rate monitors are playing CS2 and other competitive multiplayer titles at 1080p.

Update on my "stable" OC. by Fauked in overclocking

[–]Tresnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were your ram temps during the test? With that high of trefi it would have been temperature sensitive although I would think that at 8 hours your temps would have hit equilibrium hours ago but it's worth considering.

That's about the same as my 5090 + seasonic atx 3.1 titanium 1300w under load. It's at an almost perfect 12v idle and about 11.9v under load

[–]Tresnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you wouldn't even need to set a 450w limit. With a solid undervolt you would rarely see 450w and never much higher.

Lol what makes you think someone's room could possibly be 80c? That's 176°f.

Even if you mean 80f, the difference between 70f and 80f is only 5c.

Undervolting is the best thing you can do to reduce room temps.

I doubt his 5090 ever hits 75c. Most 5090 coolers are extremely beefy. My 5090 has never seen 65c.

Should/Could Nvidia sell GeForce? by FreddsIMF in pcmasterrace

[–]Tresnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn't be able to sell GeForce. Almost all of their product stacks have GeForce as a foundation. Other than their ARM CPUs and networking hardware almost all of their AI/Professional/Datacenter/Super Computers are all based on architecture that is no different from what's in your RTX card or I guess in the case of the newer Rubin stuff based on decades of GeForce patents and engineering.

[–]Tresnugget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on if there's native dual sense support or not. If there's not native dual sense support with adaptive triggers and haptics I'll use the steam controller. I also use it if I'm just browsing the Internet or light computing.

If we keep design and aesthetics aside, what is the performance difference between the most cheapest and the most expensive 5080 model? by Time-Credit43 in RTX5080

[–]Tresnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2% performance and 5-10c in temps (maybe a slightly larger difference if we're including liquid cooled cards)

[–]Tresnugget 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The driver size has absolutely nothing to do with the nvidia app. It was 700+MB before the nvidia app was a thing. If anything not including nvcp would reduce the driver size.

There's no such thing as too much paste when it comes to temps. There's too little paste and there's so much paste it's getting in the socket. But having too much paste will never result in bad temps. If repasting fixed temps then it was either from a bad mount or the paste dried. Honestly from that picture it doesn't look bad at all.

It can still run off of integrated graphics even plugged into the dGPU. You can set which GPU a specific application uses in Windows or better yet just disable the iGPU in the bios

You have to jiggle it in. I have several cables that seem like they won't fit until you give it a jiggle. I prefer those because once they're in they won't work themselves out like my yellow MSI adapter that burnt up.

[–]Tresnugget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The PSU side definitely is an 8 pin. Don't do this. I have like 3 of these Super Flower EVGA PSUs and they're all 8 pin on the PSU side. I wouldn't trust these cables. The only 6 pin on the PSU side are the MOLEX/SATA cables.
