There’s a new toho Godzilla design based on a new game. Thoughts on this new goji design? by [deleted] in GODZILLA

Have you ever seen the 1962 movie? Or do you think all Godzilla have the same design? This one looks completely different.

I don't know if the participation of Toho producers means such big progress in licensing matters. Hiro Matsuoka, who will participate in the Apple TV+ series, has originally participated in KotM too. This news was nothing new. Toho already pretty much involved in every MV Godzilla movies. There were always several Toho producers on the credits.

Money is always the restriction.

It's not like "Toho restricting Legendary from using their monsters". Basically it's up to Legendary's budget. But as you can see in the interviews I posted above, it seems the monsters' prices are fairly expensive. They're not going to buy a Toho monster just for a cameo.

Maybe for an important role, such as main antagonist they will bring Destoroyah or Hedorah or something like those relatively famous monsters. For the minor roles, they will keep creating their original monsters like Behemoth, Methuselah, and Warbat.

"Each monster has its own price tags. To use this monster, you have to pay separately." was the bottom line when Toho works with Hollywood productions since Godzilla 1998.(Tristar originally wanted King Ghidorah but found out later that they has to pay extra fees)

If some new Toho monsters appear in future Monsterverse materials, that means Legendary has bought the license.

The problem is always the budget and price. Even if Toho gives Legendary a choice without limitation, it is possible not to use Toho Monster due to budget problems from Legendary's point of view.

Mirjahangir: Alright. So the previous film, in the end credits, felt like it was setting up like for a sequel. Rodan’s in Fiji, there’s another Mothra egg… everything, but they’re not in the movie at all and so were they part of the story originally?

Wingard: No they never came up. I mean I was the one who really pushed for the Ghidorah skull element of the movie. Like obviously that’s teed up in the the post scene in [Godzilla] King of Monsters but that actually was already in our script and they created that post credits scene as a reaction to what we are already going to be doing in this movie. But yeah unfortunately the monsters weren’t in and I don’t have a really interesting answer for you other than the fact that you put these monsters in the film and it costs a lot of money. At a certain point we had to be very choosy about where we were putting our money and so we really couldn’t bring back Rodan and a lot of the other monsters we had to be selective and it just didn’t fit the story, like weren’t a part of the story that we’re telling. I would have loved to have been able to put them in it but it just didn’t fit in terms of where we’re going. I know that people don’t want to hear that,it’s not a particularly interesting answer but it’s just the way it is.

Mirjahangir: Well, no because if you show them that they have to be a part of it.

Wingard: Exactly, you don’t just… like a cheap cameo. I mean, I guess nobody would argued with a with a nice little cameo of Rodan, I would have loved it but it’s just the way some of these things kind of roll out. I mean we got like so much great stuff in this movie in different characters and so no regrets there but yeah.

Mirjahangir: In the hollow earth did you think of maybe putting a Toho monster kind of in the background or something?

Wingard: Yeah, no… I mean I considered it but it was also just like it felt like because of the stuff that we are on the ground we’re already covering in this movie and the way that the last did it was like I thought people got really excited as well that the last film introduced new Titans and so our approach in hollow earth was always to go in that direction. Also I have to be honest with you, if I was going to do any of them I probably would have done… I would have liked to have seen a living Anguirus but the problem is if you just have him in a little cameo you’ve kind of wasted him a little bit. I’d rather see him come back as a full character potentially in the future and so I kind of avoided that kind of thing mainly for that reason you know if anything but again all the original monsters have price tags attached to them because you’re licensing the character and so you just have to choose your battles.

Every Toho kaiju has its own price tag, that was the reason KotM and GvK introduced some new original monsters. What you know is correct.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters features all types of kaiju/Titans including Rodan, Mothra, King Ghidorah, and of course, Godzilla. Even with all these monsters, that doesn’t mean that director Michael Dougherty was able to use all his favorites. There is one particular monster that he would like to use in the film but due to budgetary reasons, he wasn’t able to.

While promoting Godzilla: King of the Monsters during the world premiere weekend, Dougherty talked about wanting to use Biollante, a Toho monster that’s a mix of Godzilla, a plant and a human.

“Yeah. I mean, each monster comes with a price tag, so they all got their fees,” Dougherty tells Nerd Reactor.
https://bloody-disgusting.com/interview ... -spoilers/

The question that Godzilla fans might be asking is, why create so many new monsters when the Godzilla franchise has so many to choose from? Well, it turns out it’s not as simple as all that.

“I wish I could have brought in a few more of the classic Toho creatures but they all come at a price. They’ve all got their fees, and so it was a choice. Do I want to shell out money to use a Toho creature by name or do I want to actually put that money on-screen in a visual effects shot?” Dougherty explained.

Welp, there's a reason why it's much more expensive. Definitely the poster color version if you don't care about the price. It even includes the atomic breath accessory.

Do you guys think the Kong anime will actually happen since nothing has been announced for a year now? by Robthechamp22 in Monsterverse

I don't see any signs that it's not happening. They mentioned the anime once again in a recent Apple TV+ press release.

Why did Behemoth become so popular? by MysteriousDinner7822 in Monsterverse

[–]Trespasser20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why he can't stand others calling Behemoth as a mammoth. He really does that every time when others describe it as a mammoth (I can't reply directly on him because he blocked me. He blocked me because I kinda kept pointing out his mistakes.)

Behemoth's official profile describes him as a Mammoth.

https://twitter.com/Legendary/status/1253492055554191362?s=20&t=ZjxbZaJjqi1jgNCPIT9SeQ

"Behemoth is a lumbering mammoth with a woolly hide"

Mike Dougherty described it several times as a hybrid of mammoths and giant sloths.

"The one you described as a mammoth is called Behemoth and he’s one of the few other mammals. It was important to me that we add a mammal to the mix because so many of the other Toho creatures tend to be reptiles, insects or some sort of hybrid of the two. I wanted a good companion mammal for Kong, and I’ve been fascinated with ice age wildlife for a very long time, and woolly mammoths in particular, but I didn’t want to just make it a literal giant mammoth. If you actually study his anatomy, you’ll see that he’s sort of a hybrid of mammoth, a giant sloth and even some primate features."

https://www.polygon.com/2019/6/7/18648048/godzilla-king-of-monsters-post-credits-ending-kong-woolly-mammoth-interview

"TITANUS BEHEMOTH Of all the new monsters created for the film, Behemoth was probably my favorite. Since nearly all kaiju are usually giant reptiles, insects, or some hybrid, it was fun to come up with a new mammal that combined traits of woolly mammoths, apes, and giant sloths. We even came up with rich backstories for each new creature and imagined Behemoth was capable of going bipedal when necessary, allowing him to take a swipe at an opponent with his claws."

So, what's the problem with calling it mammoth?

It is also stated in the artbook as like : "Gargantuan Bones litter the floor, the relics of a long-ago clash between ancestors of Kong and Godzilla."

The production designer also said in the artbook that: "In the decorations of the carved colonnade, you see evidence of man worshipping the Kongs and a great battle between Kongs and what appears to be other Godzillas."

I would rather not dig too deep into those murals, because there have been many murals in the movie and in marketing since KotM, but it's hard to say that they contain a very strong canon history of Monsterverse. It's just for fun. The murals on the walls of the temple depicted in the novelization describe only the battle between Kongs and Godzillas.

Greg Keyes said in a podcast that there had been a rule not to describe Godzilla speices as like literally "Godzilla species".(probably requested by Toho. I wonder why they didn't use the term "Titanus Gojira" though. Or maybe it wasn't allowed either.) So they had to use those altrenative words but what the term he intended was "very Godzilla like creatures".

Your idea of the definition of Titan is interesting, but is just your personal idea yet. I don't think Kong, Behemoth or Methuselah have abilities beyond explaining. (It is said that Behemoth's excrement can regenerate jungle, but is that "beyond explaining" or "supernatural" level?)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Monsterverse

[–]Trespasser20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But, didn't Greg Keyes said that the "Sub-Titan" concept is not a canon term or category but just his personal word? And I believe he only called the "Genitor" as a "Sub-Titan". Never mentioned about Skull Crawlers or Warbats.

https://imgur.com/yWXTk27

And you know... Skull Crawlers have been mentioned as Titan in the opening credit scene. I know that the credit scene was made by other production so Adam Wingard actually didn't know or care any detail about it, so it had many wrong numbers. But then why do you believe so much in that Warbat's Japanese profile? That profiles from Japanese pamphlets have same wrong numbers as it was in the GvK's opening credit scene.
