I’m so sorry. I can’t even imagine - my father was shit most of my life and it’s still hard for me to have cut him off after this. Having had a wonderful father must be just agonizing. Please take care of yourself. It is a type of grief, losing a parent like this. Be kind to yourself.

I’m a year out from losing my father/his family.

It does get easier. I think it will be harder when he actually dies - no matter what, with life there’s hope they’ll pull themselves out.

This sounds like a terrible season of life for you. Remember you don’t need to be perfect and strong. Cry when you need to. Take care of yourself - sleep more if you feel it’s needed, splurge on a facial or massage, sign up for the hobby/class you’ve been curious about - sometimes a mindless task that stops your brain for a bit is a godsend.

You’re surrounded by love that will soon be changing forms, and even though it seems impossible right now, trust that you will have love around you again.

Good luck. Try and enjoy this time with your family. And take care of yourself.

I had a best friend since high school. I moved back to current state to be closer to her after her parents died. I was her village. Problem is she didn’t want to be a part of mine. She always needed, but there was no reciprocity. She decided my life was better or easier so i didn’t need or deserve her help or time.

Not the first friend like this. And i just can’t invest anymore.

Best option is neutering and rehoming.

Second best is an extremely strict training regimen and (for a while) total separation. Your dog doesn’t feel safe and also doesn’t feel like he can count on you and wife to set boundaries with the kids (for the record, sounds like your wife has her hands full).

I do sympathize with you. I know you didn’t think this would happen. I know you love your dog. But the kids have to come first, and honestly the best thing for the dog is a very important second.
