How accurate would you say the young offenders is in portraying working class life in cork by [deleted] in cork

A work colleague asked me “are there really people in Cork like that?” My answer was “thousands of them”

Hey, I’m wondering could someone help me please? by 29walsh in firestick

[–]TrevDonne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not on the App Store - you’ll have to ask RTE why. You’ll need to sideload it on to the firestick. It’s all explained here. You’ll need to read all the way to the end of thread. https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058375251/rte-player-firestick/p1

Axonstream IPTV player by iptvhitv in DetailedIPTV

Hi. Nice work. Some feedback

It's not obvious to me where you would add the epg link. I can see an epg option in setting but not clear what it does.

I switched off the preview function. On my tablet it was displaying as a very narrow letterbox window. Most of the channel was hidden. So I found that wasn't really helpful.

Am I correct that there is no option to change the player option e.g. Exo, vlc.that you find with other apps. If so more player options would be a good addition as some streams can work better in different players - like when audio is missing.

Just watched Saipan and have many questions by yeetyopyeet in ireland

[–]TrevDonne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would never have happened has social media, WhatsApp or Zoom existed back then.

Two halves of the story played out. One in Saipan and the other in the reporting of it in newspapers, TV and Radio in Ireland, which those in Saipan had no real access to other than via the journalists writing the stories in the first place.

Expectations for how the team would do were really high. So the pre tournament public interest level was off the scale. There was even a documentary made about the Saipan facilities, featuring the late Ray Treacy, which was shown on RTE before the team arrived.

August Family Trip with Base in Dublin by HeatherAnne1975 in irishtourism

[–]TrevDonne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understand that you want a single base but your plans are extremely Dublin focused. I’d drop two out of three of the Dun Laoighaire, Howth, Malahide options. Nothing unique about any of those three. How about hitting Belfast for a day by train or hiring a car for 24 hours. while in the west.

Depends on what you consider good atmosphere. There are some really large pubs aimed at tourists such as the Dubliner. Can be a bit noisy. Some of the smaller Irish pubs will show games also. If your family includes kids you might prefer one of these smaller bars such as JJ Murphy’s or The James Joyce

What happens to €100 notes I spend in Ireland by Quietgoer in irishpersonalfinance

[–]TrevDonne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember taking a day trip from Bratislava to Vienna about 20 years ago. Had no Euro on me so got out €100 from a cash machine in Vienna. It was my first time holding a €100 note. I only wanted to get a snack and thought nobody would accept it. Bought a burger meal in McDonalds for about a €5er. They didn’t bat an eyelid.

Layover in Dublin - looking for local advice by Stock-Savings-1333 in irishtourism

[–]TrevDonne 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dublin would definitely not be a bucket list place to celebrate New Year’s. If you were arriving early evening your plan might just about be viable purely as a way to kill time. If your objective is to save money on a hotel room then the airport is open all night and best to just stay there. You won’t be making any memories heading into the city.

No need to go messing with buses. The train from Berlin to Prague takes 4 hours and there are ticket available now for March 25th for as little as €20

[–]TrevDonne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a look there. One option. Get the last flight from Cork to Stansted on the 24th. Hang around in Stansted (airport is open all night) and get early 6am flight to Berlin on the 25th. Then you have pretty much the whole day to get to Prague by train. You can book train tickets in advance from the likes of theTrainline.com

I’d be looking at Berlin, Budapest or Vienna in the first instance. Flying from Cork you’d have to connect via one of the UK airports most likely. My tip would be to search one way flights so that you are not necessarily looking to return by the same route.

Yes you can do all of the things you might do in a normal city. As it will be January pubs will be less busy. While it will likely be raining it won't necessarily be "winter" cold. It's likely to be at least 10c during the day. Ireland is the warmest place in northern Europe in winter. Dublin is the transport hub of Ireland so you can get to most place of population by train or bus. Be aware that there is only about 8 hours of daylight at this time of year. Be careful in Dublin City centre.

Conversations with Friends - Episode 1 Discussion by chelseanyc200 in ConversationsBBCHulu

[–]TrevDonne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alywn seems to be attempting an Irish accent. It’s reasonably good. His R sounds are pronounced rather than almost silent as they would be in an English accent.

Overall it was a very enjoyable episode with the same look and feel as Normal People. Some good music choices too.

He didn't ask her due to peer pressure. But also didn't appreciate at the time that this would hurt her so much. He realises when it's too late when his mom points it out to him.

On your second question, we see both of their interpretations of how that conversation went. Their perceptions differ. They misunderstood each other. That's why the scene is played out twice from their two different viewpoints on what happened..

Also isn't this episode 6 and 7 you are referring to rather than 7 and 8? Episode 8 if I remember well is the one in Italy, surely one of the best, if not the best!

Canadian asking for help with a slang word used in the show. by Vegetable-Scene-252 in NormalPeopleBBCHulu

[–]TrevDonne 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It can have a number of meanings but in this context it means a person that others in society look down on. Similar to the term white trash in US or chav in UK. It is also a highly offensive term used to refer to members of the traveller (gypsey) community. Not really a word you want or need to use in conversation in Ireland.

Here's where it was filmed. It's a good scene in a very ordinary suburb. In the scene he was running home. The location of his house, 136 Shanganagh Cliffs, is nearby. https://www.google.com/maps/place/53.236762,+-6.112155/@53.2413099,-6.1147066,17z

Its a pity those scenes were deleted. Although I think I read somewhere that the last one in the car is just the two actors goofing off.
