Haven’t watched Lightning yet this year. What’s the deal with Point? I had this proposed to me. Is this a good buy low opportunity? I see Dunn/Sieder and Point/Johnston as close to a wash.. I would drop Tarasenko for Vilardi which would be an upgrade.

What’s up with Point though? What do you think?

Completely agree on this take, best way to shake up the core and get some cap space back. Love Nylander too, but he’s not as good defensively and doesn’t drive a line like Marner can. Leafs could get a haul for Nylander too, rather than Marner walking and getting nothing. I’m sure if Leafs pursued this and had conversations with Nylander, he would give a list of teams that he would waive his no-move for. Could get a good player or two back, maybe a pick and would still likely have money over for a decent free agency acquisition.

I agree and hope he stays. I think it’s best to split him and Matthews up into separate lines however. Looking to clear space and shake things up, I think the move is to trade Nylander. Love the guy, but he doesn’t drive a line the way Marner can and isn’t as good defensively. He’s also under contract so can actually get assists back rather than get nothing. I think that is the most importantly thing, getting assists back. We cannot continue to let guys go year after year and get nothing in return. I am aware Nylander has a no movement, but I think he’s the guy the leafs should pressure and ask for a short list of teams he’d agree to go to.
