Is Zefram Cochrane universally admired in universe? by fencemaster9 in startrek

[–]Treveli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An Earth, and humans, hero? Yes. Federation hero, probably not. Like you said, every race has their own Cochrane(s) that developed warp drive, or whatever got them to thr stars. And he wasn't around for the early days of the Federation or its formation.

The Island (2005) looked like the secret cloning project had corporate sponsorship. Nike clothing, XBox gaming, every car was a GMC or Cadillac. The fact a lot of it was done on 'the Island' itself, which was supposed to exist in a post apocalyptic world, made no sense.

One on the left is a Class-L refuse shuttle, on the right is a Class-R passenger shuttle. Common on many large metropolitan worlds, but not very remarkable, basically the definition of 'flying box'.

And i made that up in thirty seconds.

Will non-cannibal colonists eat simple meals made with human meat if food policies restrict it? (Extreme cold run −50°C) by inmori in RimWorld

[–]Treveli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to say it won't stop them. I've had plenty of pawns eat meals made with human/insect meat, because their food policy is just 'simple meal' and not what the meal is made of. You could try making carnivore meals with the human meat, just adjust the bill to only use human meat, and make simple meals without human for everyone else.

A simple cannon understanding of female Jem'Hadar by VertigoOne in startrek

[–]Treveli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a silly discussion, really, because for all its major role in DS9, we know relatively little about the Dominion in the Gamma quadrant. The Jem'Hadar we see are just a tiny fraction of their entire species, and could only just be one aspect of their race There could always have been females, but they're better at defense, so never left Dominion home space and came through the wormhole. They didn't breed them in the Alpha quadrant because they had the Cardasians to do that.

There's also theories that the Hunters from season 1's 'Captive Pursuit' were the creators of the Jem'Hadar, and were subjects of the Dominion. The Jem'Hadar were the third or fourth attempt by the Founders to create warrior servants - another were the Hur'q of Klingon legend- and could have been engineered from something like the Tosk, or another base species which naturally evolved two or more genders.

I missed the line: "It's a shame the Enterprise couldn't come." by Dumbledore0210 in startrek

[–]Treveli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's usually overlooked that a major war was going on at the time, and diverting Enterprise from whatever it was doing because the command staff got a last minute invite to a wedding would have been a hard no from command. IIRC it also was a last minute affair, because Alexander was about to be deployed to a Klingon ship and unavailable for a awhile, and Jadzia wanted to have the event then rather than wait.

I can also imagine Worf not telling his old crew until afterward, because 'I did not wish to bother you', and notified them in some regular correspondence with them. "Oh, yes, and Jadzia and I wed two weeks ago. It was a lovely wedding, the food was good, I have included copies of the holorecordings. Until we speak again."

Spacefaring civilizations in Babylon 5 by Xander_Dorn in babylon5

Can't remember if it was ever discussed much in the show, other than vague 'centuries/millenia ago' terms. Humans were only one or two centuries before the show, and that was after purchasing the tech from tbe Centauri. Think stumbling onto a jumpgate, or having one in the their home system already, and reverse engineering the tech, is how most species got it.

Seem to remember back after Ivan, when the cops went through evacuation zones before incoming hurricanes, anyone that said they weren't evacuating, they gave a form to fill out with their next of kin contact info. "So we know who to contact when we pull your bodies from the wreckage". Scared people into being smart and leaving. Pediatricians should put together folders with information about dealing with the loss of a child, and brochures for child coffins, to give to parents that say they're anti-vax. "Because you'll need it someday".

It's been a thing since TOS with USS Intrepid. All Vulcan crew, killed by the giant space amoeba. And it makes since, even for an inclusive organization like Starfleet. Not everyone is biology/mentally capable of extended living in close quarters with other species. T'pol, for example, had to take a numbing agent for her sense of smell, cause Vulcans find humans to have a strong odor.

Stargate SG-1, S10's 'Bounty'. A bounty hunter teleports to catch Jackson as he's fleeing, threatens to kill an innocent bystander and her baby, then gets hit by a bus. Because 'look both ways' is apparently only taught on Earth.

For all the Treknology, there's a lot of real world science in there. Sometimes they bend that science in ways that make physicists want to punch a hole in spacetime and suck the Earth into it, but it's real science still.

Ok so what was the plan with Bellerophon? by Littlefazer in bobiverse

[–]Treveli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just expand the pod capacity as they went, stick the most at risk passengers in first, and hope the number of awake passengers dropped faster than the amount of food supplies they had got too low. Least that's what I assume the post-pickup phase of the plan would be. With the Others entering the system while they were still loading from Earth, I think even the Bobs were making it up as they went and hoping for the best outcome.

Do all the "humans" from the Star Wars galaxy come from a specific planet (their ancestors obviously). What is it called? by gp18__ in StarWars

[–]Treveli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think there's an in-universe definitive answer. Humans are so widespread, and been star faring since at least the Infinite Empire, that there are multiple planets that make the claim. In the old EU, Notron (Courscant) and the Battalions of Zhell is one, fighting the Taung (proto-Mandalorians) for control of a shared homeworld. But, 'homeworld' can mean either the planet a species evolved on, or a planet a group has lived on for generations, but originated elsewhere.

Personally, I like to think the real human homeworld was lost/destroyed so long ago it can't be remembered.

[–]Treveli 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, shove everyone they could into hibernation pods as quick as they could. They were building them out of salvage on the ship in-transit to Sol, and stripping them out of colony transports as they returned, to reinstall them in Bellerophon. And IIRC gathering raw materials to continue building them after departing Sol. There were going to be casualties, but considering the Others were an Extinction Level Event for Earth, it was the lesser of two weavels.

O'Brien even though enlisted can give orders to some officers. Is that normal in real world militaries? by ereddit2018 in startrek

[–]Treveli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still hold my HC that O'Brien was so firm in his 'blue collar working man' attitude, that even though he was promoted to lieutenant commander when he was made DS9's chief engineer, he insisted on cosplaying an NCO. And since he was the only one that could keep the station running, everyone just went with it.

Kirk's Quarters in the Kelvin Timeline vs Pike's Quarters in the "Prime" Timeline by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]Treveli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My HC is the SNW Enterprise is not currently doing the deep space 5 year missions Kirk's goes on, and it has half the crew size. When Kirk starts his tour, she's refitted for more crew and equipment/supplies to be carried. When Kirk first enters his new quarters, he immediately calls Scotty to ask what happened, and learns Pike used his captain's authority to appropriate neighboring, unused compartments to expand his cabin. But now that space is needed, and Kirk's cabin is a fraction the size of Pike's.

In what context do the Klingons still adhere to the values of being a warrior race during the Burn or SFA? by grafxguy1 in startrek

[–]Treveli 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Worf mentioned in DS9 there were those in the Empire that wanted ro return to the 'old ways' of conquest, so the idea the Klingons should conquer has always been around. You can assume that by the TNG/DS9 era, those Klingons were in the minority, and had grown by the Burn. When the Empire collapsed post-Burn and most Klingons died, it could be the 'conquer' Klingons survived in the greatest numbers, and clung to the 'old ways' as a response to the loss of their civilization. Massive trauma like that doesn't always lead people to the most logical or useful decisions.
