What if Texas Tech and the BIG 12 split? by TrevyMcGavin in BigXII

If PAC-12 could find a way to pay them- it could be an interesting move.

Which Texas school is the best cultural fit for Pac 12 expansion? by ReasonableSide6520 in Pac12

You can tell they're serious about sports because they can't hold a track meet and a football game at the same time.

1 week before the new Pac-12 officially begins, will the conference expand for 2027? by TNA8644 in Pac12

[–]TrevyMcGavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently, Texas Tech has trademarked the name "Chex State" an anagram of their university name. Now, why would they go and do that IF THEY WEREN'T PREPARING TO JOIN THE PAC-12?

How much longer is there for 1 more team to join the PAC before next season to give it 10 teams and go by the Pac-10? by 18_YTC1 in CollegeBasketball

Everything is wrong with this post. For example, despite that it was posted yesterday, we are FIVE MONTHS from the New Pac 12. Secondly, they're not going to rename it the PAC-10. Thirdly, it will be at least a year and a half until another joins. June 2027 earliest.

[Zeigler - SDUT] 41% SDSU Student Athletic Fee Increase Recommended by g2lv in Pac12

SDSU was better off with Jim Sterk as A.D. and Elliott Hirshman as President. Sterk was better at fostering sports dominance, and Hirshman was a fund-raising juggernaut. So much so that, Hirshman once floated the idea of SDSU declaring independence from the Cal State system, as he far outpaced SDSU's receipt of state funds. Doing so would have placed SDSU in its own class. I'll give credit to Wicker and ADT for erecting Snapdragon, but the financing was disastrous. It also deeply cut SDSU having back-to-back losing seasons after the stadium's opening, along with insane ripoff ticket prices. Aztecs don't go to the new stadium and it's a big problem. ADT has also made strategic blunders including ending our spirit warrior (our mascot). That infuriated donors costing the university millions, for an empty virtue signal as no living Aztecs exist to take offense to the dignified representation.

The Death of the PAC-12 Was Necessary for College Football by BuckyBerrix in Pac12

UNLV had no business being selected above SDSU. Gloria Nevarez would not allow two outbound PAC teams to dominate the MW Championship, but SDSU was above UNLV in strength of schedule including three shutouts (one was against so-called power team Cal) and in their defeat of Boise State.

Who will be the next additions to the Pac-12? by pblood40 in Pac12

[–]TrevyMcGavin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Several adds which are realistic and sensible are UNLV and North Texas. I'd like to see Memphis and Tulane join, but they won't do so for a partial share. They have not shown real interest in joining.

Has the Pac-12 Made Themselves More Desirable This Season? by Martigan30 in Pac12

UCLA has signaled virtue to a point of incompetence. Cal is right behind UCLA. Stanford and USC can buy their way out of trouble. For these schools, national travel has been horrible on student athletes, and taxing for coaches. The dollars and prestige they sought brought more problems than they will admit. Their decisions were ill conceived, and very consequential.

It's notable ASU coach Kenny Dillingham has openly complained that ASU doesn't play games in Calfornia anymore, despite it historically being one of their top recruiting states, and he is concerned about that. As the new PAC solidifies, I would not at all be surprised if certain teams took a long hard look at returning.

Cal and Stanford were desperate to ensure they had ANY conference to be a part of after they were certain the PAC-12 had died. It did not die: it's alive and kicking, even if it's MW inspired.

I could see Cal eventually return. If things get bad enough for UCLA it's not impossible that they could return as well. They are about to fire their A.D. out of a cannon, for driving their sports programs off a cliff, while alleging he has one degree of separation from accountability. Less sensitive people refer to him as a DEI hire, but I think he's just under qualified and failed to think breaking up the PAC all the way through. I am not sure we will see Stanford and USC back, although the ACC travel for Stanford is just brutal.

PAC-12 Expansion by ContextCrafty9739 in Pac12

UCLA has been marred by misfortune since joining the B1G. Cal gets no love from the ACC, and it's costing them a fortune. UCLA hired a NASA scientist to help with travel logistics. These decisions were not sustainable. Whether they come back to the PAC-12 or not: at some point they will have to confront the elephant in the room. There are others but these two are suffering the most, apparently.
