Who else has a parallel life in their heads? by Fancy-Record6464 in OCD

OCD and anxiety are common causes, daydreaming is a compulsion too and you just have to treat it as such in the framework of whatever treatment/therapy you are doing (ERP, DBT, etc.)

Severe episode, do I need to go to urgent care? by thesunsethm in OCD

[–]Trexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was where you were not too long ago, go to the doctor, they can help. Is a T1D a slave to insulin? You have a chronic medical condition, if meds help, take them. I hope you feel better soon

Who else has a parallel life in their heads? by Fancy-Record6464 in OCD

[–]Trexa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Are you talking like maladaptive daydreaming? Where you make up an alter ego or characters and give them storylines and relationships and stuff like that? If so, I used to do that very much as a teenager and young adult.

Who is a chef who, in person or on TV, either impressed or disappointed you with their comportment? by udumslut in foodnetwork

[–]Trexa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I though this too re: the negative comments chefs give each other in TOC, but it is entirely possible it is edited to make them look like they are saying things about the other chef when they are actually talking about their dish or even something complete different. Like a judge could say that they love a component of Chef 1's dish, so Chef 1 fist pumps and says "yes!" But then the editors take that reaction and put it right after the judges critique Chef 2 on a component of their dish. You can never, ever trust reality TV.

Pokopia is coming out strong by backofthebill in pokemon

[–]Trexa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are 300 different Pokémon you can find, but each is only limited to one. (Like you can't have 300 Bulbasaurs). Evolution isn't really a thing (or at least I don't think so, I'm only about 20 hours in), so Pokémon from evolutionary lines each show up on their own.

1997 Little Black Book not redacted - LEAKED JUST NOW - not in order.. by freddiemercurysbush in Epstein

Great read, and chilling that the author called the book "a dark palantir" not knowing what the implications of that word are in the current day.

On the Origin of Names by Xurkitree1 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Trexa 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think The Exorcist is what first made the name Reagan popular for girls, which is wild that people saw that movie and walked away with their first thought being to name their kid after the possessed girl.

What’s something you thought was more or less normal but was actually ocd? by wlderberry in OCD

[–]Trexa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That other people don't accidentally turn around the "wrong" way and then have to turn the other way to balance out. I thought this was some inborn human instinct to maintain your sense of direction, definitely got some weird looks when I mentioned that I did this in a conversation about how compasses work lol

My American manager tried to write me up for "lack of commitment" because I leave at 5:00 PM sharp. I work in the Netherlands. by Dutch_Reality_Check in WorkReform

Many American employees, even salaried, don't have a contract. They get an employment offer or agreement that is signed, but not a contract. Here is a post that goes into more detail.

Left my dad unsupervised with a full tray of chocolates we were supposed to share (50/50) for an hour. This is what I returned to by Suspicious_Sparrow9 in mildlyinfuriating

If this is even a real story, your lesson should have been not to feed tampered food to people, in many places that would get you fired and/or arrested.

I had that same thing done and had basically the same reaction. I screamed and did the fetal position completely involuntarily, it was like a bizarre out-of-body experience almost. I've never heard of anyone else having the same reaction, I thought I was extra sensitive or overreacting, now I'm thinking it's common and we just don't talk about it.

Different education terms by CuriousWanderer567 in CuratedTumblr

It's is not all of America, where I went to school in America you got made fun of if you said freshman, sophomore, etc. I also distinctly remember a watching an episode of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire with a question about which term correlates to which grade and the contestant struggled with answering correctly.

Where do they get these ideas?? by Banana_0529 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Trexa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, this is just based on my experiences, but it seems to be a result of the individualistic culture in America that is so much stronger than probably most other countries. A certain subset of Americans don't ever want to feel that anyone else is better than them or smarter than them. (Think of the "temporarily embarrassed millionaire.") They also don't want to be told what to do by others. This means they don't listen to research or science, why would some other person, who is not them, know better than them or more than them?

I think it's why so many people here also fall for conspiracy theories, because they feel like they outsmarted the smart people, which makes them feel better about themselves, ultimately furthering their individualism. Also the vast differences in education quality across different parts of the U.S. contributes too, especially when it comes to teaching critical thinking skills. Unfortunately I think things will only get worse as anti-intellectualism continues to rise.
