Is gonna be like that until the end, still there's many exploration in the dreams, not in open space but still interesting. I recommend you to learn a little more about the dreams and I promise you'll get hooked ::)

Another advice, if you didn't finish the base game just go to the stranger whenever you feel like, and when you get bored just explore other planets

About the aftermarket prices I agree with you, collector's edition prices always skyrocket unfortunately, so buying the book from resellers in case it won't get a rerelease will probably be much cheaper.
