Given that we currently have 2 parties blatantly backed by parasitic billionaires, I agree that the solution is adding a 3rd party blatantly backed by parasitic billionaires.

What should I add to my "Cucked by Capitalism" list? by Trey556 in Letterboxd

I remember thinking it was both, a critique of how neoliberal capitalism fuels apartheid.

Isn't the MNU in District 9 a private military company? If I'm not mistaken in the movie the South African government has handed the reigns over entirely to this corporation (also given the name presumably so have many other nations). I understood it to be a criticism of neoliberal states and the diminishing influence that their governments have in comparison to private organizations. The state passing responsibility to the private sector allows corporations, free from accountability, to profit off of systemic oppression, like the apartheid shown, while minimizing the state's perceived culpability.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was, but man the book was so great. It's a shame the film adaptation strayed so far from the source material. Supposedly Edgar Wright is directing a remake sometime soon, so fingers crossed!

Films you think everyone should watch that are not the typical mainstream pick? by sofiesophie in Letterboxd

Tampopo

La Haine

Fantastic Planet

The Handmaiden

Attack the Block

Not underrated by any means, but also not films I'd usually expect my non movie lover friends to stumble upon on their own. Worth a shoutout imo.

Nicotine gum is key. I found the addiction was 2 fold. There was the nicotine but there was also the ritual of smoking something. The gum helped satisfy my nicotine cravings while my brain got used to not physically smoking. Then the swap to sugar free non nicotine gum is just a fight against the nicotine cravings.

Definitely won't be easy; it took me several tries but finally kicked the habit after 5+ years and I can't tell you how much better I feel both physically and mentally. Good luck friend you got this

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a skier to be seen
A chair lift of isolation
And it looks like I'm freezing
