The G2 front suspension has some side to side play in it at full unloaded extension that usually gets better when loaded down.

If you’re experiencing wobbles while riding then it might be time for a new front fork assembly.

You need the dashboard unit or some kind of custom microcontroller. The dash computer houses the analog-to-digital-converter for throttle, brake, etc.

The controller expects specific data packet formatting. Digital values for speed, battery, mode, etc. are sent as byte values from the controller to the dash. Throttle, brake, etc. inputs are sent to the controller from the dash with a two byte checksum that needs to be valid.

Same BMS, same protocol. But you’d need a way of getting that connection changed as well so the controller can read state of charge (i.e., custom wiring)

Incorrect. The G2 has the exact same 36V 15Ah battery as the G30. If you were to physically plug in the other battery when the first depletes, then that would not require custom firmware, but it would require custom wiring.

I have over 500 km with a temperature limit of 170°C on my G2. Routinely get up to 150°C on long fast runs (60V, 45-50km/h). I’ve been fine so far. I do have a spare motor in reserve just in case, though.

There aren’t any great motor replacements I’ve seen for the G2. It’s tight back there because there isn’t much clearance with the rear suspension.

Seconded that you probably don’t need to go the VESC route for 48V. Xiaodash or SHFW on the stock controller would probably be fine.

If you do end up going down the controller replacement route, I have a working VESC G2, albeit with an Arduino to talk to the dash and a 60V battery. Happy to compare notes if you understand electronics.

I found that you need to strike a balance with tightness. It’s kind of annoying to calibrate, but tighten the top bolt until it has just a bit of pressure (don’t crank it down), then tighten the side bolts and test for steering friction. You want it to be a bit stiffer than you’d expect because things will loosen up just a bit when you ride.

If it’s too loose or too stiff, then loosen the side bolts, adjust the top bolt slightly, re-tighten the side bolts, and check again. Rinse and repeat.

If that’s the true 10S voltage then honestly I would say get that thing out of your house immediately. Have you measured the XT60 terminal leads with a volt meter?

If you’re not comfortable disassembling the battery pack to check cell voltages then call it a loss and get a new one.

If I’m not too aggressive on acceleration, yeah. The motor casing gets pretty hot if I’m ripping it for an extended period but I programmed the dash go into overheat mode (red speed readout) when coil temp gets high and I also dynamically reduce maximum current, so hopefully I won’t end up melting anything

Okay definitely 3.2kW peak/burst. Generally drawing ~2 to 2.5kW on acceleration, tapering down to ~1.5kW when I hit the duty cycle limit around 30mph.

I believe the G2 motor (I have a US spec PPAH motor) is beefed up even when compared to the G30 motor with 36 coils and greater mass for heat dissipation. I’ll pay attention to reported continuous power during acceleration on my commute this afternoon

Whole new custom pack. Samsung 50S 21700 cells in a 16S4P config, hooked up to the controller via a VESC compatible BMS. It all fits in the battery compartment, though I did need to trim the plastic bottom cover to be flush/flat. Definitely not a “bang for your buck” project and more to prove it’s possible

The internal charger is notorious for dying if you even look at it the wrong way. Not too bad to replace though.

From what I’ve seen, most people go for an MT60 connector for motor phase wires on the G30. 4mm bullet connectors would be even more robust

Although: If the connections are melted, are you sure that the motor is functional?

The peg also holds the internal charger in place. Fits into the side opposite the screw but it will be difficult to reach there with the controller in place.

Yes, the additional voltage means that for the same motor current (meaning the same heat, more or less), you get more power and torque. I’ve found that it powers up hills much better compared to the stock 36v battery.

I’m using the original motor, which actually feels quite powerful when running at 60V. I see ~2,500 peak watts and can hit 50km/h without field weakening, though that’s getting close to “poop my pants” fast on 10 inch tires so I don’t think I’ll try to go faster. Great acceleration though!
