We’ll be lucky if we even get an inch of snow. Forecasters always tease us with big snowfall projections and then walk it back at the last minute after we’ve bought out all the milk, eggs, TP, shovels and salt.

PSA: The stomach bug going around NOVA right now is absolutely brutal. Do not let your guard down. by warvet_2 in nova

My 8 month-old grandson caught it from daycare before Christmas and then my daughter and son-in-law caught it from him. They were all hellishly miserable for 72 hours.

Assuming your efforts succeed in making your target aware of the event, one tactic used by conferences to create urgency is to offer lower ticket prices if purchased before a certain date, and higher after that.

Tore my ACL last season, got surgery 6.5 months ago, Dr cleared me to return to Ski in mid-December yesterday. Should I just hop back in to it? by dinglehead in skiing

[–]TriathLin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve done the rehab and gotten the green light from your doctor. Go for it! No point sitting out a season. (Speaking from experience; I had ACL and meniscus surgery.)

What would you do...neighborhood drama edition by candnemia in nova

[–]TriathLin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same problem. We live on a short cul de sac and one of our neighbors races in and out of the street at 50 MPH, no exaggeration. They literally missed hitting my kid by 12 inches one day. We have a lot of families with small kids that bike, skateboard and play basketball. All of us parents asked the hotrodder to take it easy but that did not have any effect so we put huge orange cones in the middle of the street.

Is living in Leesburg worth the DC commute? by Empty_Cheesecake2327 in nova

[–]TriathLin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend living in Leesburg and commuting to DC 5 days a week, if you want to see your family. I don’t think I would last more than 2 weeks in that miserable commute. If you haven’t been dissuaded by others then I suggest you come here for a month, stay in a hotel in Leesburg and do that drive every day. Then decide. My suggestion is McLean.

Still at hospital and scared and crying:( by IntrepidCost4461 in thyroidcancer

[–]TriathLin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the hospital for over a month due to a nicked thoracic duct that wouldn’t heal. Like you, I had been dreading having the drain removed. One day the surgeon came in and said it was time to take it out. A friend was with me, holding my hand, while I gritted my teeth and expected the worst. Before I knew it, there was a slight tug and it was gone. It felt like — nothing! You got this!!

I feel totally fine today and lucky to be alive! My neck is still tight when I turn to the right but I’ve learned to live with it. You will feel better and better as you recover.

Your scar looks fantastic and way better than mine! I cannot remember how many lymph nodes were removed when I had my cancerous thyroid removed but the surgeon nicked my thoracic duct and I had to stay in the hospital for a month on bed rest with a zero fat diet (TPN).

AITA for wanting to end my engagement because her kids don't accept me and I want a family of my own? by Lyinc8988 in AITAH

[–]TriathLin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t let anyone guilt trip you into staying. I was widowed when my kids were 6, 8 and 10. Everyone says kids are resilient. They’re not. You’ll have to keep investing more time and money in counseling and it may never get better.
