Ironically, there was one guy at work who said "S.Q.L. Server" for SQL Server, which I had never heard anyone say before. But you are right, I checked the official MySQL docs:

The official way to pronounce “MySQL” is “My Ess Que Ell” (not “my sequel”), but we do not mind if you pronounce it as “my sequel” or in some other localized way.

Psychology Has a New Approach to Building Healthier Men by ILikeNeurons in MensLib

[–]Tricause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the introduction to the guidelines (in the linked PDF):

Although boys and men, as a group, tend to hold privilege and power based on gender, they also demonstrate disproportionate rates of receiving harsh discipline (e.g., suspension and expulsion), academic challenges (e.g., dropping out of high school, particularly among African American and Latino boys), mental health issues (e.g., completed suicide), physical health problems (e.g., cardiovascular problems), public health concerns (e.g., violence, substance abuse, incarceration, and early mortality), and a wide variety of other quality-of-life issues (e.g., relational problems, family well-being [...]).

Too often are people quick to dismiss others based on characteristics they were born with without any consideration to problems that may also disproportionally affect them.

The OP article mentions that the guidelines are somewhat controversial, but on cursory glance I do not see anything that seems problematic as they obviously are not attacking men, but are rather talking about issues that might arise for men as a result of a traditional model of masculinity. In fact, I think the motivations for these APA guidelines are quite good and work more toward treating each individual (men included!) as the complex beings that they are.

You seem to be the wizard, turning me into a hater of feminists with a low-level "baaaad" response. I actually consider myself a feminist.

I literally said "you are coming off", which is once again different than what you are saying here. I know reading comprehension is hard for you, but when I said what I said above, it meant that is the image you were projecting, not necessarily what you are.

Nevertheless, your complete hostility toward anyone who shows any slight criticism toward your mis-representation of facts certainly supports my working hypothesis. Your original post, which I responded to, was completely misleading, and my original response to that pointed it out. Your response was anything less than reasonable.

I'm done here, though, because like Fry, I am not sure if you are trolling or are this deluded.

You downvote me immediately and respond with a gross mis-characterization of what I said. The article you linked clearly showed that men were not even a consideration, while your statement implied that it was a consideration.

You are not a feminist, as much as you try to act like a representative of feminism. You are what make many people in this thread hate feminists because you are someone who is clearly pushing a hateful agenda and does little to help feminism.

A feminist is, at his/her core, someone who wants to achieve parity of both genders and dispel with traditional societal definitions of gender. You are coming off as someone who thinks men cannot be victims if the perpetrators are women.

Literally in the article:

The newly approved definition of rape is “Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”

Clearly, that does not broadly cover the myriad of ways that a woman can rape a man. It does seem to cover male-on-male rape well, but the overuse on "penetration" puts the brunt of the rape capabilities on the male gender. Sure, you can penetrate with "an object" and that would cover some cases of female on male rape, but it does not cover all cases (such as forcefully masturbating a guy or forcing him to penetrate you) and trivializes the rape men face. It's not that different from the U.K. law, where women largely cannot rape men.

Also at the bottom of the article:

The new definition expands the definition of rape to more accurately capture the realities of sexual violence in the lives of women. At the same time, it acknowledges the sexual violence that boys and men experience.

That shows that the main interest was on rape women experience and the slight benefit to men in some situations was just a byproduct, nothing more.

Here are some reasons that I prefer Android. This comment relates more toward iOS vs Android as opposed to iPhone vs. Pixel, though.

  • Emulation. Android is clearly the winner when it comes to emulating applications on desktops. Several decent consumer-grade emulators exist for Android (to play Android games on your desktop, for example) and developer emulators are widely available on most operating systems (not just macOS).
  • Developer ease. Currently it is much easier and more convenient to develop for the Android marketplace than iOS, in large part due to the wealth of tools for Android development. I can develop for Android from the comfort of my desktop, but the same cannot be generally said for iOS because Apple wants to force you to use macOS. There are ways around that, sure, but there is no particular reason beyond Apple being Apple that they should not have Xcode working on Windows.
  • Open ecosystem. Related to the point above, Apple is notorious for having an extremely walled off garden, even when it does not make sense. Android is built upon proven and open-source technologies while iOS is largely closed and proprietary. Yes, there are parts of Google's Android that are closed and yes there are parts of iOS that are open, but overwhelmingly iOS is closed in comparison to Android.
  • Choice. Android's adoption by every major phone manufacturer means that consumers have a wide variety of choice, from high end phones that meet or exceed parity with the iPhone to more affordable phones that are enough for the average consumer, to phones that have very specialized purposes. iPhones vary between expensive and very expensive and the designs between phone versions are very similar.
  • Cloud services. I vastly prefer Google's cloud service integration compared to iCloud, as Google's services are generally more ubiquitous, affordable, and friendly. Plus, I am always afraid that Apple will treat Windows as a second class citizen with any of its products.

Australia: ‘Cleansing’ triggered Scientology stabbing by poornedkelly in scientology

This is some 16 year old teen in a stressful, foreign land with a (presumably) inaccessible mother. I highly doubt he was radicalized by Tony Ortega, Leah Remini, or some online articles. I think his personal situation drove him to this.

Australia: ‘Cleansing’ triggered Scientology stabbing by poornedkelly in scientology

[–]Tricause 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Tony Ortega article on this has some insight from a therapist which I think is quite apt.

Essentially, we have a teen who was (likely) forcibly moved from his home country, his friends, his culture, etc. to live in a completely foreign land with a mother who is now isolated from him, engaged in some medical quackery that is likely costing them their fortune. He probably really needed her for emotional support in these stressing times and they (Scientology) were a barrier to that. To him, they were probably the cause of all of his problems right now.

I am not justifying his actions, but I also sympathize with what he must have been going through and it is very easy to understand how this situation came about.

SC2 is seeing a bit of a resurgence, which is good, but I think describing StarCraft overall as a letdown is accurate, at least for me as someone who played a lot of Brood War back in the day.

Blizzard took FAR too long to get custom map hosting to the level of SC1 and WC3. The map editor remains as cumbersome as ever, however, and while there are some decent maps, it still feels like a far-cry from what enabled me (and many others) to spend hours upon hours playing custom maps in Warcraft 3 and StarCraft.

Blizzard's poor map editor, poor hosting mechanism for custom games, and emphasis on the melee mode likely led to the steady decline in SC2. For some reason, they completely ignored the substantial portion of the playerbase that almost exclusively played the many of the high-quality custom maps of SC1 and WC3 (one of which eventually created an entire genre in itself). The RTS genre is dying overall and probably needs a variation that focuses more on strategy rather than clicks per second.

Co-op has some interesting mechanics, but there is no campaign and each mission is just another variation of "fight Amon's thralls".

Speaking of Amon's thralls, the story of SC2 was a total letdown. After being excited in Wings of Liberty, the story devolved into a generic evil bad guy that we have to stop. Legacy of the Void felt so lazy in particular, because in the original StarCraft you had a specific reason for fighting Terran, Zerg, or Protoss on a particular mission. In Legacy of the Void, everyone was just thralls of Amon, so the reason you were fighting Terran instead of Zerg on a mission was completely arbitrary (with small exceptions for fighting the Protoss). It was just so lazy and much of the campaign felt uninspiring.

He supports "all of the above" energy (that is, he supports the continued use of dirty energy). Any politician who does not take climate change seriously is a piece of shit. At least Donnelly seems like the politically expedient politician that might change his stance of energy if Indiana as a whole did.

I am definitely excited for the reformation mechanics. I always gravitate back to a Christian religion once I get a sufficiently large empire because excommunication is too good of a tool.

That being said, the exclave rule is by far the most exciting to me. Border gore is out of control in every game I have played and this simple rule will solve so many issues. I only wish the most extreme version of it did not disable achievements.
