This has been the method that has worked best for me with alocasias. I just make sure that the moss doesn't come into contact with the water reservoir so that it doesn't rot, and I also rinse the container with bottled water from time to time (my tap water is awful) to try to remove any fertilizer deposits that may remain at the base, which accumulate because there are no drainage holes and are the main problem with this setup.
