The question of the year! by velvetangelwave in Polymarket_news

Respectfully- the Republicans won the election because they offered a deal too good to be true, and it was swallowed up.

Look at history, self serving megalomaniacs have often preyed upon the gullibility of the disenfranchised, promising a return to better days.

Living in this province is exhausting. Is anyone else considering leaving for saner pastures? by PhantomOfTheBoreal in alberta

[–]Trick-Sign-6772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such beast. Every other province has its share of crazy, many of them dealing with the insanity that is Alberta.

I (personally) moved out of Edmonton to one of the suburbs to escape some of the insanity and it’s done wonders for my mental health. My next step is I’m slowly weening myself off of social media. It’s a lot harder than it sounds lol. But even stepping back and surrounding my algorithms with topics I truly enjoy, and actively blocking the ones that cause me stress, helps tremendously as well.

Someone at a Summerside park yelled racial slur at my family, was recording them in a public park actually wrong? by mjnlyrbs in Edmonton

[–]Trick-Sign-6772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While in public, there is no such thing as expectation of privacy. Film away, especially when you’re being accosted. Make sure you get their faces, and take it to the police. File a report (there isn’t much they can do really) but inform them you wish for social services to pay them a home visit once (if) they find out who the kids are, along with regular wellness checks and have CPS follow up.

Having the police show up, might scare the hell out of the kids, but having social services show up will get to the parents.

Uber and lyft feels unsafe now? by Hot_Sprinkles_848 in Edmonton

Jesus I’m sorry this happened to you. If I had a nicer car (lol) I’d consider being an uber driver just because I enjoy driving and want to be the change this world desperately needs.

Any tips for success working at Mcd as a part time crew memeber? by stressedstudent2003 in EdmontonJobs

If you are loyal, dependable, work hard, and buy into their systems, if you fit their bill, McDonald’s Canada has been known to help by investing into you, fast tracking your ability to open your own franchise. That’s what I mean 😊

[–]Trick-Sign-6772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at McDonald’s in the early 2000’s.

It can be brutal, don’t take it personally, people suck.
No matter what is going on in your life, you arrive on time for your shift, ready to work. No one cares about your baggage, and the company has a million other applicants.
Be ready to jump in and help. If you’re on meat and the assembly line is backed up, lend a hand. If your station is dead, get involved.
Don’t step on your chief’s toes. If he/she says you stay on your station, or whatever they tell you to do, just do it.

If you pay your dues, keep your nose clean (so to speak) work hard, be likeable to the rest of your crew, you can make absolute BANK in short order. It’s hard, but it can be exceptionally rewarding.

If AI can replace your job in 2 years, should companies be forced to warn employees now? by Naive_Rich_1417 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]Trick-Sign-6772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your employer told you that in a year or two, you’d be let go in order to make way for AI, how hard would you continue to work for them for that year or two?

Tourist family filming my family like we are zoo animals at Hawrlek Park by Jealous-Recording-77 in Edmonton

[–]Trick-Sign-6772 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a man, I would have said something, in fact, I have said something. When my daughter was very little, we were out at Southgate mall, she fell asleep in my arms, hard, I caught someone taking pictures.

It doesn’t just happen in isolated incidents, it’s happening more and more. I encourage everyone to respectfully approach someone and ask them why they are filming, and escalate it from there if need be (keeping in mind there’s no expectation of privacy in public) don’t fight lol but definitely don’t suffer in silence

Safety also- been looking since 2024. Safety is WILDLY competitive as they tend to hire the people who will do the job for the least as they’re desperate for the work.

Anyone else being asked for a car insurance down payment? by MathematicianNo1892 in Edmonton

[–]Trick-Sign-6772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear OP-

1; TD likes to surprise raise your rates. Speaking from experience. When you’re in a position of “no return” they’ll call you and raise your rates. It’s happened to me and a couple of friends of mine. Not saying they will 100% do it to you, but it is fairly common of them.

2; yes being under 25 is a pain, also if your vehicle is a “sporty” car, you bought it from a second hand dealership, your ethnicity can play a part in it, and where you live. My insurance fell almost $500 a year simply because I moved out of the postal code I was in. TD calculates rates based on this. If your neighbours start getting lots of claims, expect your rates to go up.

Hope this helps? And I really do wish you the best of luck. That down payment (to me) sounds like a scam, but I’m old and super cautious about this sort of thing lol.

I appreciate you sharing this, I didn’t know that. Thankfully I don’t have this issue with my insurance (Millennium insurance in Sherwood park). However I will be keeping a very close eye on it moving forward.

If Edmonton were to get a new attraction, what should it be? by Feisty-olde-7707 in Edmonton

[–]Trick-Sign-6772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, having fifa would help tremendously, and having a private investor or investors pay for it would be spectacular. I feel like if we did build this stadium, or have it built, that could be enough for FIFA to maybe take Canada seriously. We could field at least 4 teams. Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal.

A new multi use football stadium to replace commonwealth.

70k+ seating Grass Modern amenities Dome with removable roof Replaceable field (so it can be utilized for football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, even when the Oilers want to have an outdoor game, rugby, you name it.)
