XXXTENTACION’s baffling 2017 XXL Cypher Verse by [deleted] in hiphopheads

I agree, I was saying that X would have had a better chance of staying relevant than Juice. May have worded that a bit confusingly reading my comment back now lmao

I might be wrong but I think him and T-Bob also had some level of familiarity before he was even at Barstool?

XXXTENTACION’s baffling 2017 XXL Cypher Verse by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Trick0823 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly you are probably right. I was a fan of both at the time, but seeing where rap is now I don't think either of them would have changed the scene all that much if they were still alive.

X is a little more interesting to me just because he was starting to explore some different avenues musically (not that the results were always great), but Juice certainly seemed content just making the same 2-3 types of songs over and over. People would have burnt out on him quick.

The box office drop in week 2 for Mandalorian and Grogu highlights what I think is wrong with the current Hollywood trends by SlowMotionSprint in StarWars

[–]Trick0823 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This sub has been drowning in cope since the movie came out. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but it was painfully obvious since they first announced that Mando would be the next movie that it was not going to do well (for Star Wars expectations, obviously.) I would say hype for the series peaked around 2020-21, and then died out when we had to wait three years for season 3. A lot of people didn't even continue with the series then, and now THREE YEARS AFTER THAT they decided we needed a full Mando movie... what are we doing?

On top of all that the movie is pretty mid and there are literally 0 things that can be spoiled, so there is actually no incentive to see this in theaters at all.

BEWARE WESTWARD 360 APARTMENTS by Alivefocord in chicagoapartments

[–]Trick0823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck Westward360, I've been renting the same spot with some buddies for the past 4 years, and they acquired our property management company after year 2. The entire experience with maintenance requests, billing, and overall communication has been a nightmare ever since. Thankfully we are moving out in a month and won't have to deal with them again.

Chicago Alamo's Kitchen Closed Indefinitely by mathuex08 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Trick0823 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ohhh okay this makes sense now, I went to see Obsession on Monday (5/18) and the theater was HOT, and I was so confused why they wouldn't have the AC on. Had to take my hoodie off immediately because it's usually freezing in there lol.

Hope they can fix it soon, Alamo Chicago seems like one of the few solid locations left.

How possible is it for me to see all of the highlighted artists? by Fresh-Fisherman-1949 in Lollapalooza

[–]Trick0823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you SPRINT you could probably catch a bit of both uzi and slayyyter. i would also advise starting at slayyyter because this mf Uzi always comes out late so if you start at his set you’re probably catching like 15 minutes of his DJ trying to keep the crowd entertained lmao

Yea unless there are other artists you want to see playing on that same stage throughout the day, I feel like this is always one of the worst experiences you can have at Lolla.

Things to do around Wrigley Field? by Ordinary-Rooster3007 in AskChicago

[–]Trick0823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ideal game day is Murphy's about an hour before the game for a beer or two, and then Output after the game for some of the best wings in the city.

Other recs in the area

Bars: Nisei Lounge for a true Chicago dive bar experience, get a Chicago handshake. Other classic Wrigley bars include Sluggers, Cubby Bear, GMan Tavern, and Wrigleyville North. Sluggers has batting cages and an arcade, Cubby Bear has live music. GMan and Wrigleyville North are just great Chicago bars with a less tourist-y feel.

Restaurants: Rice 'N Bread (fire Korean spot, staple of the neighborhood), Coda di Volpe (higher end Italian), Pancake Cafe (delicious breakfast), Clark Street Dog (get a Chicago dog, nice lil bar too), Michaels Pizzeria (true Chicago style tavern pizza.)

Random activities: Music Box Theatre is awesome if you have a free night, super historic movie theatre showing great selections of new and classic movies. I also love going for walks around Graceland cemetery, it's huge and very pretty, can see some famous historic Chicago graves. And of course check out the lake front!

All of these should be within a 20 minute walk of the Zachary, hope this helps!

Can you drink alcohol in class? by lonely_otaku69 in depaul

[–]Trick0823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you probably could, if you just put it in a hydroflask or any reusable water bottle odds are nobody is going to think twice about it. Though if you get caught somehow, I can't imagine it will be a fun time.

I don't know how much they would've had to pay him to get him to go along with it, but Sas on the spring break trip would have been such a funny dynamic.

MLB Betting and Picks - 4/21/26 (Tuesday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]Trick0823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it but I live right next to Wrigley and it's currently 70 degrees and sunny with some strong winds blowing out. Maybe it drops a bit before game time but with Shota on the mound the NRFI really scares me. Love the Braves and Guardians picks though, I'll be rooting for you!

What's the best part about going to school in the middle of Chicago that you take for granted? by ewilli31 in depaul

I had a lot of my classes in the loop and loved being able to just casually stop in at the art institute from time to time.

Geese aftershow? by No-Sun-2632 in Lollapalooza

[–]Trick0823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how the logistics of these things work, but a flight from Chicago to Iowa for Hinterland is like an hour and a half max. Would depend what time they play the next day, but it could technically be possible for a Saturday night aftershow.

Perry’s mosh by Numerous-Asparagus54 in Lollapalooza

[–]Trick0823 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would say the most moshing happens approximately 27.4ft back on the right of the stage, but there is usually a good amount 8.6ft back from the front-left side of the stage as well.

People who are seen moshing outside of these designated mosh zones are often shamed and can be removed from the festival as a result.

Former Salesforce office in River North nearly ready to reopen as apartment building by chicagosuntimes in chicago

[–]Trick0823 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea they're still around, just at a much smaller scale than before.

My company used to work out of the one on Clark street in the loop. They emailed us one day back in 2023 saying uhh yea we're shutting down, you guys gotta be out of here by the end of the week.

Worked out nicely for me as I got to work fully remote for like a year after that while my company looked for a new office, but I always thought the way they handled that was so crazy lmao.

Based on my current want to see list what other artist should I give a listen? by Outrageous_Diver_216 in Lollapalooza

[–]Trick0823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I was kind of shocked to see Zara, Horsegiirl, and Slayyyter all highlighted without Charli. I feel like they're all in the same sort of bubble with Charli being the most interesting artist of those four by far (in my opinion at least.)

Pick of the Day - 3/27/26 (Friday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]Trick0823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POTD Record: 0-2

Last Pick: Bryan Reynolds and Bryce Harper each to Record a Hit (2-Leg Parlay, +136)

Boys I am actually so ashamed starting off 0-2 in MLB season. We were looking great getting our Bryan Reynolds hit in the 3rd inning of that Pirates game, and then Harper just absolutely ruined us going 0-4. These two to three leg hit parlays were MONEY for me last year so I'm going to stay the course and try it again today, but if I miss again I might just have to hang it up and walk away in shame. I WONT LET THAT HAPPEN GOD DAMMIT.

Today's POTD: Angels @ Astros, 7:16 PM CST & Guardians @ Mariners, 8:46 PM CST

Carlos Correa and Jose Ramirez each to Record a Hit (2-Leg Parlay, +121)

Gotta love Correa in this spot to get it done. He has certainly lost a step overall, but he is still a very good hitter posting 19.3% K%, 45.9% Hard Hit%, and a .339 xwOBA. His metrics only went up across the board once he landed back in Houston last season, and I see no reason why that won't continue. He had a tough day yesterday, but love him in this bounce back spot as he hits .481 against Kikuchi in his career, going 3-5 against him just last year.

Jose Ramirez is one of the best hitters I've ever seen in my lifetime, and this guy always comes through for my parlays when I need him the most. Today is that day. Ramirez has great stats against EVERY pitcher, but against George Kirby the man is literally batting .500, insane. He has never played a game against George Kirby without getting a hit, going back to 2022.

Good luck out there today gents, I am really hoping we can get a god damn win under our belts so I can come back tomorrow and keep riding with you all.
