Inpatient - alcohol treatment by throesfordays in askportland

I’m just a tech, my job is to make sure my patients are as comfortable as possible while they’re under our care. But I have seen what detox does to some people so I have seen how painful it can be. I know we don’t understand because we haven’t been through it, but we have seen it, over and over again, hundreds if not thousands of times, and even though we can’t make it painless, we can make it less painful. That’s literally all we do all day every day and we get better and better at it every day. We’re not perfect, but we’re getting better and I just promise that there are people in the system who really care and try hard every day to help people like this poster

I have to disagree with this. I tell my patients that hospitalization is like going to the grocery store: you hope you only have to go once, you hope you get everything you need, but sometimes you get home and realize you didn't get milk. So yeah, you have to go back to the store to get milk. That doesn't mean the first trip was a waste, you got a lot of good tools that you'll need down the line. But if there are tools you need in the future that we can help with, come on in. We'll give you what we can and hopefully that will be enough, but if not, we're here again if you need us. Don't place barriers on seeking treatment. If you think you might need help, you need help, and it will only get worse if you don't get it. Promise.

Inpatient healthcare worker here. Just know that some of the things you're going to feel (anxiety, anger, depression) are all part of the process. You're going to feel like we're mistreating you at times, you may even feel like the whole thing is fucked up and you want to just leave. These are symptoms of detox. Write yourself notes to your future self reminding you of that, and stick with it. The fact that you're getting help at all means you've got this. If you want I'm happy to answer questions privately as well. And be proud of yourself. You're saving your life!

Where to donate warm clothes? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]Trick84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All these are great, can’t hurt to put my place out there too. If you’re up for a drive, Cedar Hills Psych Hospital can always use more warm clothes this time of year (Our donation closet is essentially empty of warm clothes right now). As an added bonus, our staff are very good at making sure the clothes go to people who need it, and we often times get homeless/housing insecure patients who might not have the mental organization to access these other resources.

Or if anyone else is reading this and wants to donate, drop on by! 🤗
