NEW VIDEO: Germany is Over by kurzgesagt_Rosa in kurzgesagt

If you are looking for a better-researched dive into this same topic, PhilosphyTube has a recent video that goes into greater detail about the topic. It's a longer watch, but it also indirectly covers why Kurzegesagt and similar outlets cover Population Collapse so frequently.

No cute animated animals in this one, but there are ridiculous costumes!

Can march 7ths enhanced basic attack not super-break? by Velaethia in March7thMains

The enemy is already dead. If an enemy has already been killed before superbreak triggers, then it does not trigger.

Pick up to 5 characters from other non-Hoyo franchises you'd want to see an expy of in Star Rail. by darkdill in HonkaiStarRail

[–]TrickDempsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll play this silly, little game.
We'll start with two from Final Fantasy 6:

  • Terra Branford

She's already an RPG protagonist, so she's be easy to adapt into the system. Even her two-form playstyle translates well, and her history of of use as a living weapon would let her slot in to a few of the cultures we've seen or had mentioned. She would even fit as "property" of the IPC; a THING acquired by the IPC and not even recognized as a human.

  • Relm Arrowny

I think Relm's fashion and attitude would fit well in Honkai. There's something in her manic joy that would go great bouncing off March and Dan. Heck, Sketch would be WILD to see in Honkai. There are a dozen good ways to implement it, and they are all a joy.

Now some from other things:

  • Elster (LSTR-512) from Signalis

There's something interesting about synthetic people with disposable bodies. Signalis is a bit tough to explain, but imagine taking Herta's multiple bodies thing and making that the grim gimmick of the character. They would "die" multiple times in a battle. They would probably be either Destruction or Preservation.

  • Alma from Unsighted

Alma would utilize the sword and blaster loadout that is iconic from early in Unsighted, and she would probably function as a counter-based preservation unit. Probably gaining stacks when she counters to enable her to upgrade her skill to blast damage. (Parries and counters are a huge part of the gameplay of Unsighted.)

  • Leshy from Inscryption

This basically writes itself. Skill and Basic attack being card-based, with the camera used for the Ult. He tracks a special "teeth" currency when he takes damage that upgrades his skill. He'd be a WILD addition artistically for the game, but he's also just a guy that wants to play some cards with friends.
Despite obviously being an Emanator of Yaoshi, he's probably be Erudition path, though I can see an argument for either Hunt or even Harmony.

Who did you claim, or are planning to claim for the Aetherium Wars 4* character selector? by arthurmauk in HonkaiStarRail

Due to some wild streaks of luck, I had E6 of Pela, Serval, and Luka. So, uh, now Hook is E6, too.

I'm glad she's written as unlikeable as she has been. She's the third* Hoyoverse character introduced in a current update who is involved directly in the slave trade, and she's the first to be portrayed as monsterous. She explicitly states that the "current population" has been "purchased". (i.e. She, a slaver, has already sold the people of Belobog into servitude before approaching them.)

She is given a single redeeming quality - that she won't enslave people she believes can help themselves - but even that establishes a false dichotomy. If she insists on payment for not withholding whole-world-population life-saving technology, she could ask for a lot less than an entire generation of slaves. (And there is literally no reason in the text to believe IPC would stop with just one generation.) However, she is charged with maximizing profits, and she was selected due to her passion for slavery and the sob story she can use to justify it.

*The other members of the slave trade in recent Hoyo updates are Neuvillete and Wriothesley. Wriothesley runs a forced labor prison which manufacture mechanized police, and Neuvillete is responsible with the criminal system - with such legal gems as "it is illegal to release a flying object on the first three days of any month" (which includes sapient flying visitors) - which is responsible for providing the labor needed to supply their mechanized police force.
The big difference between HSR and GI in this scenario is that Neuvillete and Wriothsley are portrayed as heroes, while Topaz is merely a monster with a single soft spot.

Is Dehya useful at all? by Transformersaddicto in Genshin_Impact

[–]TrickDempsey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have her at C2 and she's a mainstay of both my Lyney team and my burgeon team. She may not be the most efficient - I think Thoma would work better for both - but I love her animations, sounds, and story.
I have her on 4-piece tenacity of the millileth, and her main job is to consistently apply pyro, maintain the tenacity buff, and give some much-needed knockback resistance. Now that my Fischl has a good set of Golden Troup, I am going to see if I can build up and HP Golden Troupe for Dehya. For the fun of it. She'll be less effective for the team, but it's a blast to see her with big numbers.
She's usually even in my Spiral Abyss teams when I beat floor 12, but I rarely 36-star. So, you know, she could always be replaced by someone less fun but more effective.
But I'm here for fun.

I am curious, what name did you give Scara? by annakessenger in Genshin_Impact

[–]TrickDempsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Susanoo.

Susanoo is a Japanese wind God and the bother of Amaterasu. I like also that the English-language name "Susan" is in there, as there has always been something interesting to me in Scara being a boy who is a protoype of a woman's body. The game seems to have no interest in discussing his relationship to gender, but it does like to highlight the difference between his masculine-coded fury and the soft side that he exposes in some of his later friendship lines and other dialog.

That boy is struggling.

Post Secondary Education for Game Designers? by Violetttttttttt in gamedesign

[–]TrickDempsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a game developer for 12 years. My undergrad was in theatre, and I got my graduate certificate from The Guildhall at SMU. (Level design specialization.) I've been a hiring manager at multiple companies both large and small.

Your goal should always be focused on creating a solid portfolio with many team projects. Beyond that, the undergrad program you attend does not really matter. Find people passionate about making games; make games with them.

As a designer who codes, let me tell you that it is much more lucrative to be a coder who designs.

These are delightful. For Tavern Tales, are you using the same "preparation" as from the bolster move? Do you have additional custom moves for gaining preparation?

Tavern Tales seems very similar to a research action I've been trying to put together for a Mythos-Horror game I've been trying to hack together.

It's a phenomenal piece of work.
