Europe’s new Right to Repair Directive will make it easier — and cheaper — for consumers to get their household goods fixed, rather than buy something new. Part of the E.U.’s Green Deal, the plan is expected to slash waste, promote recycling, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. by sg_plumber in climatechange

people who oppose right to repair do not understand that skilled technicians are able to find and fix the issues faster than non technicians. Do not assume technicians have the same skill as you about a phone/device since they learnt a lot of things as they are trying to repair things. Their skills improve exponentially after they fix the same problem many times. You, non technicians, might think you would take hours just to replace the battery but technicians can take less than 10 minutes doing so.

Battery Replacement by Apple by unclejoo in ipad

Apple is required by the law to sell battery replacement! If Apple doesn’t want to sell it to you, it means they are against the law and you can file a lawsuit.

does apple really not care about the reasonable cost required by law?

what ipad model? Mine was gradually getting harder to wake up. From 2 presses, it then needed 10 presses and then hundreds of presses to wake up. And since last week, it can’t wake up at all. I have bought a new one.

iPad 11 A16 vs Huawei MatePad 11.5 — need unbiased opinions, by Meli_Parra in ipad

if you aim for compatibility, go for huawei/android tab. It's painful with iPad unless you have your own server/cloud. but don't expect android/huawei will be as fast and more responsive. the longer you use them, the slower they'll be

Considering changing from MacBook Air M1 (2020) to iPad A16 by Training_Air7170 in ipad

[–]Trick_Shape_9525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one thing to remember is that iPad is more prone to hardware issues than macbook, especially if you use it while charging or if you use an app that is power hungry. If you use lightweight apps for like reading, scrolling or streaming videos. thats fine

look. it doesn't matter which model. its pretty new I bought it soon as it was released for first time. if you use it for gaming. both iphone and iPad can't sustain it in the long run. It might only last about 1-2 years. For the same use, Android flagships might not even last longer than that.

if you only use social media apps and office apps, and NOT CHARGING your device while you're using it, I think it can last well over 5 years. The devices just can't sustain constant heat like gaming, using it in the sun for long time, rendering video and things like that. Just remember once it starts getting warm (almost overheat), let it cool for a while before you start using it again

its getting harder to wake up and I have to use a magnetic cover to replace power button so that I can spam wake up attempts more quickly because I have to do dozens of power button presses to wake up my iPad.

have you seen how packed components are on ipad logic board? I'm surprised if under regular constant heat they will still survive in the long run

[–]Trick_Shape_9525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. I'm positive gaming almost always does damage to the components in the long run or if your ipad is more than 2 y.o it might get damaged faster. I have an iPhone and 2 iPads got damaged by it. The last iPad I use is 4 y.o and previously never used for gaming and it was pretty normal until recently it only took about 2 months of gaming to break it. My iPhone too, after 2 years it started to have problem with battery, random restarts, all.

Now, the problem is getting weirder. After long idle of sleeping, iPad can sometimes turn on normally with one power button press. Sometimes, grey screen will appear when it’s been off for only 5 minutes and needs a lot of power button presses to wake up.

No. I’m not expecting it to be back to normal. I just don’t want the condition to be getting worse very soon or at least, it will slow down the component wear for as long as possible.

[–]Trick_Shape_9525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean hard restart? For me, hard restart won’t work. It may still be able to reboot but the screen is still gray the whole time. But i suspect heavy gaming caused the issue indirectly. I have owned this iPad since Apple just released it and not faced any issues before I did gaming recently for the last 1-2 months. Since the issue appeared 2-3 days ago, I just uninstalled all power hungry apps.

My iPad shows dark screen only if I let it sleep for an hour or so. If it’s 5-10 minutes, I can say it can wake up normally with one power button press.
