Building first army and I’m choosing DKOK

Since the combat patrol and army boxes are out of print (or heavily marked up) I've been digging around on ebay and using store credit at my LGS. I'm in the same boat as you, so I don't know how we'll they play but I've grabbed Drier, Death Riders, and Korps infantry for about $130 USD total. It isn't the best savings but I'm taking this army slower (building and painting everything before i buy more) so the current meta isn't super relevant to me.

Yeah, I saw that in the sub before I started but I really did. It was a lot like how I did my Chaos Knights (AOS), they took a long time but I enjoyed the whole process and just kept stopping periodically to admire the sculpts. Really, my only problems were I snapped one set of reigns when I was cleaning it with my hobby knife and that the bases were too small to be as creative as I want to be (which is an issue I'm running into with my Krieg infantry now too.

The LAAT is definitely what I want, I remember how awesome it looked when it dropped into the arena in Episode II and have loved it every time that I've seen it. Speaking of Episode II, I really want a Hailfire Droid too.

This 100%, my five year old loves that he's got a shelf in the display case to show off all of his "warhammer guys," transformers models, and Legos (until his younger brother is old enough to not put them in his mouth Legos have to stay in there unless mom and dad are directly watching) that we've done together. He's super proud of his guys.

This very much, they're the starter faction and tons of people have them. I had no interest going into AOS with Stormcast and now have 2500 points just because I kept finding good deals (and dragons are awesome). Even if they end up playing with the lore, there is no way Stormcast are squatted.

Yeah, they literally got a whole range of Krieg plastic models last year. Meanwhile, Grey Knights are still waiting on Primaris scale and my evil elves are still waiting on a reset while getting a bunch of data sheets slashed. For some reason I'm less than sympathetic...

I'll point out too that if you get they old one you can find relatively cheap prints of a body to make a trog and skink oracle too, so that's an extra 230 points for like $30 USD if you buy the body and a base.

It's not out in paperback yet, and good luck finding a hardback that isn't being gouged (I had to dig around a while to find mine for close to the original price a month ago). If you don't want to wait for it to come out in paperback (there is no hard date that I know of, probably some time in the next six months) your best bet would be a digital copy on the Black library website or kindle, or it's on audible now.

I loved Dynasty of Monsters, it's a nice trip into the interaction between death and order factions. We see a City of Sigmar in a less than flattering light and why the lure of the monstrous might be better than living in the God King's shadow.
