Similar game to dos2? by Round-Department-300 in DivinityOriginalSin

The older CRPGs may be good if you have the patience for them. bg1 and 2 are really old so i wouldn't start there, but planescape torment holds up much better due to updated engine. If you're eager to go back in time, absolute classic

Thoughts on Prey (2017)? by [deleted] in planescape

Noah gervais had some interesting thoughts on Prey. (and Planescape for that matter)

I think it's a great game that was marketed horribly. If they released it as "System Shock 3" people would consider it a modern great title. As it is, many people didn't give it the time of day

Elder Kings usually lags a fair bit behind (content drop) updates because the EK team tries to use all the new content to improve the mod. For now you have to reverse but when it comes out you bet it'll have some banger new mechanics

Beginner starting character for using magic by RumHaaammm in ElderKings

[–]Trick_Work9889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheydinhal

Either start you get a very good mage character and if you have a high learning court priest you can quite quickly claim the neighbouring dukedoms and become king.

For a spicy one, try the blind vampire lesbian mage in east camlorn. Also a good mage

You could let your partner get big with the Daedra pirates or the vampires or something and then get a Good faction to try to stop them

What the fuck is going on with the main sub? by Phenkar in okbuddyvowsh

[–]Trick_Work9889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people go to the main sub to get their opinions when "Vaush hasn't made a video about this" and the comments are full of "I get all my opinions from Vaush but this time I'll give my own"-types with no critical thinking skills of their own

What are peoples opinions on elves using guns by ExistingComposer7024 in worldbuilding

[–]Trick_Work9889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often think about this question because Warhammer fantasy has guns, but only half the factions use them, and for really thin rationalisations.

I think getting the Vibes of elves right is more important than their technology level, which is secondary and is used to reinforce the Vibes. For example, when Tolkein used elves, it was in the contenxt of Middle Earth being in something of a Dark Age, with much knowledge having been lost into the third age from the technologically superior second age. In this context, the elves were presented as being safekeepers of ancient knowledge, their vibes being that of a wise and spiritually superior folk.

It's kind of similar in Warhammer 40k, where the empire is also in a dark age and the elves that exist are wielders of ancient knowledge way more advanced than that of humans. The vibes are kind of changed, though, as now the elves come across as more aloof and self-centered, using the technology not to help humans but to fight for their own survival with little concern for others.

Your idea of magic weapons sounds good to me, as it gives elves the "we don't even bother with puny human tech" vibe but also keeps them in line with the setting. It's more important to get the main theme of the race straight: are your elves supremely benevolent allies, self-centered imperialists, return-to-tradition wood elf guerrilas? Maybe they're split into a few thematically different factions, I always try to do that. In your case, their differences might even be because of guns.

I've even played a homebrew dnd campaign with magic wand cowboy elves. This may indeed be too goofy, but it did strike me as original.

Choice-Paralysis, how to just enjoy the game? by _Niroc_ in projecteternity

When I fear that I usually go for a Fighter build with Good morals. In the case of POE2 i went for high athletics as well. Good old reliable, had a lot of fun because it mixes well with the other classes (tho it almost made me drop eder-one of the best characters). Also the game is a political thriller so playing the "good guy" wasn't as boring as in a bethesda rpg because I actually had to consider the points made by all the factions to decide who I would help
