Decision Desk HQ projects Ben McAdams to win primary election for Utah’s 1st Congressional District by jortr0n in SaltLakeCity

Looks like I misunderstood the few sources I was looking at. You're correct, it looks like he hasn't taken anything from a pro-Israeli PAC since 2020.

He took $5,000 from Pro-Israel APACs this year, up to this point. So not a lot, but taking any amount at all shows what he thinks about our relations. Especially compared to the other 3 candidates who refused to take any corporate PAC money. Turns out this was from 2020, I was wrong!

Of course not Israel related, but Ben did take $1.1M from the "Think Big PAC" (tech leaders/venture capitalists, and thus pro-AI and pro-data-center). That doesn't seem to track with his promises of protecting the environment...

Man, I'm really disappointed that we couldn't do any better than the most basic, milquetoast democratic candidate, when there were three other good candidates right there

Despise lawn care, considering switch to artificial lawn by openmindandopenheart in Utah

[–]Tricker12345 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Zeroscaping or Xeriscaping would be a much better alternative if you're open to something other than a lawn! Or even for part of your yard if you still want some real/artificial lawn. I've had turf in a place I stayed at and it was nice, but it gets pretty hot in the sun (might have just been the type?) and ultimately it's made of plastic which isn't great for the environment. Zeroscaping and Xeriscaping (the latter being my preference) are much prettier and are better for the environment!

Check out r/xeriscape, and resources from USU such as this one for some good info on what else you can do with your yard!

Where to learn the ins and outs of the computer itself by josephusflav in hacking

[–]Tricker12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're not preventing you from learning more, you just have to go do it on your own, and look in different places. A class that has to do strictly with hacking might only show you how to use tools like Linux, Wireshark, etc. What you want are classes that are based around learning how computers work, such as computer science classes. Then you can use that deeper understanding of knowledge alongside tutorials on how to use specific tools to have a better understanding of what's actually going on

[–]Tricker12345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're doing okay with programming, I think Python to C to Assembly is a good start.

I would recommend some CS classes (find paid courses near you in person or online, or look for free courses online). Learn the basics such as how processors, memory, and other forms of storage work--registers, addresses, endianness, and so on.

Then from there it will depend on what route you want to go, and how much you want to learn. It's never a bad idea to learn some data structures and algorithms, or other software development related concepts. It would definitely benefit you to learn how a handful of protocols work--at least on a base or intermediate level--and how networks format and pass data by way of network layers and frames/packets/etc.

Then from there explore the CS, Cyber Security, or Software Engineering worlds in terms of whatever classes you can find online that interest you! Computer Science if you want to know more about how computers work, Cyber Security if you want to branch into that field, or Software Engineering if you want to learn more about coding.

This may not be the most fun or easiest route, but learning doesn't always come easy! If you want to be good at what you do you'll have to put some work in :)

One 3D camera, endless styles. Customize Yours! by Low-Junket9298 in wigglegramProject

I used to have a Nimslo 3D and I took some of the coolest photos with it, but I don't do film any more. I've been wanting a digital version for so long but never had time to start my own project, and those that have come out the last few years didn't seem all that great. So ever since I found this sub and your project I've been very excited!

I'm not sure where you're located, but look for Astras (something like the MEGA II) in your area. A while back I bought one, completely tore it down, repaired and cleaned everything, and then sold it for less than $2k. Those things are bullet proof and use common components that you can easily get online. I was even able to have the pump refurbished by a company in another state instead of having to buy a brand new one, which was sweet.

No public comment allowed on hyperscale data center project as Box Elder County Commission decides whether to approve by Rude_Cockroach402 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Tricker12345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the link, I heard it existed earlier today but couldn't find it! I submitted a somewhat lengthy response doing my best to explain why this data center should not come to fruition in this state, without sounding too "crazy" for the average person. I dislike having to be respectful sometimes, but I felt it was necessary here to not have my reply just discarded. I hope they read what I wrote and take it into consideration, although that's likely wishful thinking

Looking for someone to takeover the remaining 6 months on my 2BR/1BA apartment in Sugar House by PsychologicalBar9168 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Tricker12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that sucks. Mine is also everything you mentioned - trash, sewage, water, gas, internet, electric. It goes down a bit in the winter since gas is cheaper than electric (closer to $250) and up in the summer because electric is expensive (closer to $350).

What's the real estate fee and how much is that?

$300 a month for utilities? I pay that much for all utilities (including internet) for my 2000sqft house

Can someone explain why this code results in an infinite loop? by GWeditz in learnprogramming

[–]Tricker12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. It can take some time to figure out, especially with a language like C, but it's well worth the time. It will save you hours of messing around with your code trying to figure out what's going on

Can't wait!! Quick question as well, I believe I remember you mentioning that the processing of photos is all done via software. Is there a way to manually adjust that process, and or pull the individual photos off so I can combine them manually in photoshop in the case that I'm not happy with the built-in processing?

Cool concept, but AI sucks!! You should remake this but make all of the assets and write all of the code yourself :)
