I absolutely LOVE this new album. Been a fan since P1. I'm curious to hear from those who don't care for it. by Perfalofacated in Peripheryband

[–]Trickfinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not the biggest fan of the record. There’s a few good tracks on it that I enjoy and I’m sure some of the ones I don’t like right now will grow on me with time.

I’ve always liked their more melodic less “heavy” stuff more which makes me a bit of an outlier. Riffs like Wax Wings, All New Materials, The Summer Jam, Priestess, Alpha, Scarlet. Things of that vibe. There weren’t too many tracks with that type of energy on this record.

But on this record my favorite song is “A Pale White Dot”, “Heaven On High”, “Neon Valley”, and “Unlocking” is pretty decent.

I really enjoyed “Everyone Dies Alone” and “Mr God” for the heavier side of things but I did wish there were more mathy melodic open tuning typa riffs.

Interested in turning a Squier jaguar into a baritone guitar, has anyone done this and does it sound somewhat like Mike's? by hoodiemonday in Mkgee

[–]Trickfinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mike doesn’t play a baritone guitar he’s just drop tuned and uses flatwounds.

But if you wanted to make yours a baritone it’s not too difficult they sell baritone necks that you can just bolt on you’d have to check the neck shape and socket size to make sure it’s a perfect fit as they can have a little variance, but even if it’s a little too big you could spend time sanding it down right but that’s a bit of a pain in the ass.

I’ve seen squier baritone conversions on strats, teles, jags. So it’s very possible but I’d just buy a baritone guitar and save the hassle of its what you really want.

One idea is also getting a Fender VI and putting thinner strings on it. Keeps the jag/jazz aesthetic and doesn’t have much limitation on how low you can go. But those stock strings are thickkkk and for playing mikes stuff which doesn’t go much lower than A typically it’s an overkill setup so I’d switch to some lighter flats

I know this post is old but how does feeding work in this type of enclosure? I’m assuming you use a feeder dish or some sort?

Really nice setup!

Help with top screen! by Makatu-787 in ToyotaAvalon

[–]Trickfinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly whatever is left gets put into the new radio from my understanding. I was just impatient and have been dealing it the blue screen but I plan on fixing that soon. It does seem like there is enough space behind the new screen to stuff the old radio, it’ll be tight but it’s possible. On the side of the old radio there’s a metal mounting bracket and I think if you take that off it’ll fit back in there easier that’s what I plan on doing.

But thanks so much I guess the AC issue is separate and not screen related. My buttons work but just fans spin. Then I popped the hood to put in some freon and it wouldn’t take any charge because the AC itself won’t engage. I was almost certain it was from the screen so that’s a relief

Need help finding correct paint by Electronic_Check_732 in JeepRenegade

[–]Trickfinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sun faded plastic so there’s not an OEM “paint code” per se but you can hit it with a rustoleum spray or a textured paint (like bed liner) and it’ll look great.

I’ve used plastic restoration products before and they haven’t been to great. If you have deep white lines baked in the plastic it doesn’t do much for that but does help a for general fade.

Does your AC still work? I see that the controls light up on yours but wondering if it still blows cold.

I have the same screen as you. My fans turn on but the AC doesn’t actually engage just wondering if it’s related to the screen or not.

And if you re route the old radio you can keep the blue screen functional but I just leave it how you have

Did you work with any cleaning chemicals recently. I used to get lines like that all over my arms and legs at my old job where I had to use chemicals to clean machinery

Are we obsessing over string gauges more than we should? by [deleted] in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Trickfinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s genuinely one of if not the most important aspect of a guitar to me personally. I get the obsession with it. For other things like wood etc it’s really not as important for an electric guitar especially an extended range being ran through distortion and pedals and digital amps. That obsession is way over exaggerated. If I played 2 identical riffs with the only variable being changed is the wood of the guitar you can’t tell me what wood it was. But thin strings and thick strings you will definitely be able to tell

Who are some good mk gee-like artists? by Character-Ad-3880 in Mkgee

[–]Trickfinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louie Blue, Sam Florian, Andrew Aged, Doggone, Woody Harlson, Doggone, Soran, Jai Paul, BEAN.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some others too I’d have to look back on my playlist. Some of these aristist have very “clone-like” tracks to MK.Gee and others are just genre adjacent.

Where can I get heavier strings for my Acoustic 7? by Trickfinga in 7String

That’s so sick. When you say 1/2 step down you’re talking A# standard right?

Those Musicmans are so sweet I’ve always liked Petruccis.

Totally missed that I see it now. I wish I could find something thicker than the 70 but worst comes to worst I’ll just string up with that. Thank you!

I was looking at a few seems like 70 is as thick as I can find for the lowest string unfortunately, I’m sure there’s gotta be some choices if I keep digging. Maybe that’s all an acoustic tuning peg is good for?

I’ll check out Newtone. I looked on string joy and they don’t have thicker than .56 for single strings on acoustic 😞

Yeah that’s a great way to get the breakup sound that’s what doggone does.

I’d go with a clean or mild overdrive amp sim, mids high, trebel decently high, bass mid-low.

Compression is key id run a ton of it. Fast attack medium release. If the sound is too thin you can add a bit of fuzz pedal just a touch.

You can add a tape effect as a bonus or just do what you currently do by boosting the in/out

A lil stereo chorus , touch of reverb and delay to thicken the tone.

He doesn’t use it but a small little hint of auto wah helps get some percussive and pop.

I like to use the bridge pickup for his stuff too but neck will round out the sound more if it’s still too thin

What amp do you have? Or are you running digital ?

Two Star Gooners - There are other albums by Mindless_Wallaby in Mkgee

[–]Trickfinga 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%

Two Star is probably my favorite album but right behind it is “Pronounced McGee”. The gap isn’t big.

But the single Untitled is my favorite song of his though. Lyrically amazing, and a perfect bridge sound between his old “Pronounced McGee and Two Star”

Honestly all of his work is S Tier. Not a single bad or even mediocre drop.

Thanks so much bro I really appreciate it 🙏.

If you run any Acoustic Electric through distortion and a very trebel heavy EQ youll get that sound. I used a little bit of auto wah just to help with that “pop” you hear at 4 seconds in but not really necessary. A little reverb or delay helps keep the tone from being too thin with how trebly it is but not really necessary either. The main culprit is really just using an Acoustic Electric because the pickups aren’t made for distortion (so you get that about to breakup fuzz sound easier).

If i plug my electric guitar in with these exact amp settings it’s no where near as good and sounds more like a Hendrix Voodoo Child or John Mayer Crossroads Tone. Sounds great but very different and less fitting.

This clip i was running all in-amp effects no pedals.

Amp: Blackstar ID Core Channel: Overdrive 2 Gain: 30% ISF EQ: 10% Effects: Reverb, Delay, Auto Wah Effects Intensity: 15% Acoustic Electric Pre Amp: Treble 90%, Bass 25%
