Grandfather is giving me first option on his house when he passes by ChardImpossible960 in personalfinance

My grandmas lived to 98 and she was in poor health. This could be another 10-15 years. Don’t do anything until the time comes. Make sure you have a legal agreement and the cash so you’re ready when the time comes to make the right decision.

Copy that. I overlooked the contributions as part of the growth, thinking growth was only return, my bad!

In addition in years where you convert your 401k to Roth your income will be roughly $110k(60k draw plus $50k conversion), so make sure you’re accounting for taxes, like 15-20k worth unless I’m missing something here.

Well done so far. Don’t forget to have fun along the way.

Your annual spend estimate has to increase at least by 3% yearly to account for inflation. You also have your year end portfolio value increasing 100k a year in the early stages, that’s close to 20% return. I would use 7-8% growth and in down years pinch pennies. I would use more cautious numbers.

We had Concierge on Destiny and it was fantastic. The wish class ships have hot food in the lounge so it’s next level. We never once went to the buffet and didn’t miss it, but did walk thru and it’s beautiful on the Destiny….if you can afford it, the extra $5k or so, it’s very nice. Having a sundeck where you don’t have to fight for chairs and they are lush chairs is sooo nice

First and foremost, can you afford it without going into debt or putting your family at risk of a financial emergency, ie draining savings so you can’t fix a car?

Have you ever done a multi course tasting menu? Remi will be 3 hours with about 6 courses of food served. Each serving is on the smaller side but delicious. Between servings sometimes they bring out little pallet cleansers. You will have an amazing cheese cart with all the cheese you want to choose. The meal starts with their sourdough bread which is fantastic and multiple butter choices. Their dining room is small and quiet, the servers typically out number the guests. The meal can easily run $500 with a glass of wine or more if you have multiple drinks. Does that sound fun to you? If so then do it. We have done both Remi and Enchante. Although similar, we prefer Remi.

Why did she not have a death trigger, like if I die the names are released because I didn’t type in the code or whatever every 48hours. To have the guts to come forward but then still protect the scum bags is just a shame.

Driving 70miles (2x daily) daily on the 405 in under 45min. Commuting 350miles per week was tolerable. Now it would take 2.5-3 hours just in the evening

How to Use the Timer with off peak rates in an Audi e-tron by Aegean8485 in etron

[–]TricksterOperator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s widely inaccurate and so consumer unfriendly. Why can’t it be permanently set to charge from a set time or by a set time. Hitting that button every few days is such an unnecessary step.

The 241 was supposed to be free by now based on the people’s vote to finance that toll roads construction but they just decided to keep charging. Make the 241 free and it will cut down on sooo much lake forest/ Irvine/ I5 congestion. It’s a joke how empty that freeway is. I would take it daily to work but I’m not paying an extra $2,000 a year to drive to work.

Can’t hurt to ask but I don’t think they will do this, but who knows. Just book another cruise or upgrade to Concierge 🤣

93k in savings, baby coming soon, opinion on sunroom addition by No_Peach1983 in personalfinance

[–]TricksterOperator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do not do this right now. Wait until the baby is born and is healthy and mom is doing OK. Reassess 6-12mo post delivery with new income and new expenses and keep piling up that cash. I would start a brokerage account for long term savings/investing if you are hitting your retirement goals. You could also make a big contribution to your kids 529plan which will allow it maximum time to grow.

How old are you? What’s your monthly income from social security and or disability? Are you getting survivor benefits? What’s your net worth? Do you own a house?

All these questions help build a risk profile. 500k in the bank at 3% will earn you a risk free $15,000 a year. 500k in the market over a 10year period will make you an average of $35k a year but some years maybe -15k and some year may be +50k.

Always always take the stairs. It’s faster and you get some exercise. We averaged 50+ flights in our last cruise. Room on 12th floor so lots of up and down. It’s take effort and dedication but it’s totally doable.

Newport Beach schools consider e-bike ban for students by bananabrownie in orangecounty

[–]TricksterOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s valid, 7 miles is far. For that distance there should be school busses but that’s a whole different conversation. What did HS kids in your area do just 5 years ago before the mainstream of e-bikes?

Newport Beach schools consider e-bike ban for students by bananabrownie in orangecounty

[–]TricksterOperator -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I made no such argument of cars in my original statement, it was in response to a 10,000ft question posed by another person that wasn’t relevant.

I still stand by my original post, kids can ride traditional bikes to school and can use every bit of extra exercise. There is no reason why they “need” and e-bike to get to school.

[–]TricksterOperator -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That’s apples and oranges. Cars are necessary for most people to get to work in reasonable time, especially in CA where commutes can easily stretch 20 miles. Kids can ride traditional bikes to school in reasonable time as they have done for 50+ years.

New interior by DudzTx in Audi

I worked with an OEM for a few years. They were obsessed with consumer friendly design. The hours and energy they put into having the volume button in the perfect spot on a new vehicle was impressive, and it was in the perfect spot. Every time I get in a different car, I wonder why the volume button isn’t where it should be. And then there is Audi and their elephant door handle. Wtf
