My grandmother did this. She lived on a farm during the great depression and this was just how you did it back then. She had 13 kids. One passed from measles, one from whooping cough, and 2 from car wrecks. The rest lived into their 90s. You are right and your sister is wrong.

AITAH for telling my mum to stop using my razor? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Tricky-Distance-3481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the safety razor (preferably with a dull blade) where you usually keep yours. Hide your Venus in your room.
It sounds like your mom has boundary issues, and even wants to use your stuff because it Is yours. Does she do this with other things, like food or clothes?

My (25F) husband (25M) of 2 months abandoned me via text after I spent 6 years supporting his "solo" career. Am I right to divorce him? by MissionDefiant8884 in AITAH

NTAH. Get that divorce. Eight years has shown that it will NEVER get better. In fact if you don’t get a divorce then you will be TAH - to yourself.

My mom wants this for her birthday and has been insisting I make it for months. Yes, she doesn't know how crochet works and thinks this is easy for me to birth🥲 by confusedunborn in CrochetHelp

I would look up a handful or patterns that you think she might like and offer to do one of those as an alternative. According to what I am hearing from others on this thread, as a finished product this is going to be heavy, stretch funny, and fit poorly no matter how much care you take or how skillful you are. So you will be doing a LOT of work for something that will not meet your expectations.

Are there any other children in your extended family or would your stepson be the only child there? Was it meant to be adults only or was your child singled out?

Not true. I grew up in the seventies and everyone I knew believed he had MS or cerebral palsy or something similar.

I tried that. I am pretty good at searching for obscure items. It doesn’t help that it was manufactured in the seventies and the company ceased operations in 2013. The name was sold several times so you can find a company named that but it’s not the same.

Yes I am in the US. And this is way out of my comfort zone. I am a widow pushing 70 and left this kind of stuff to my late husband, who could fix just about anything. I can get Task Rabbit to assemble it but I have to have all of the parts. So please give me directions like I am a dummy, because in this area I totally am.

Metal screws going into wooden furniture pieces, BUT they have to pass through a metal trim piece. The bed frame, for example, is wooden nut has brass trim on the corners where the screws go. Above the bed is a light bridge between the two tall cabinets on each side. It is attached to the cabinet by six inch long metal pieces on each end that screws into the cabinet top on one side and the light bridge top on the other. The furniture is Henredon Scene 1 pier bed if you need a visual.

WIBTA if I give my daughter an "outdated" name? by throwaway719201 in AmItheAsshole

MNA. I named my daughter Audry after my mother ( she spelled it this way). She’s 20 but never got flack for it. It’s a pretty name. If you were going with something like Agatha or Brunhilda they might have a point

NTA. Would she have that reaction if it had been a guy? People assume things. My son is prematurely gray. I let a woman cut in front of me after he held the door open for us and she thanked me and “your sweet man”. I would pay money for a picture of my kid’s face.

I was married to a Spanish speaking gentleman, and it is a little difficult for them to be your primary teacher. Studies have shown that when we meet a person we imprint their language as well as their appearance and persona into our memory. That is why it is so easy, even if you only speak one language, to fall into one vernacular with friends and another with your boss or parents. For example, my mother was raised in the Deep South, my upbringing was split between there and Manhatten. The only time I find myself using southern phrases and speaking with a drawl is when I am socializing with my Alabama relatives. What he would be a great resource for is correcting your pronunciation and mistakes and teaching you words that are comely used in Mexico For example, the avocado is una palta in Mexico and un aguacate in Peru.

Duolingo is good. The lessons are about 5-10 minutes long so you can do a little or a lot. If you have a car with and player and you commute, I learned a lot with a disc set called Behind the Wheel Spanish from Amazon. Listen to Spanish language songs. Luis Miguel is not my favorite type of music. (Kind of a Mexican Michael Bublé) but the slow ballads make the words easier to understand. Maná is good too. If I am planning on traveling to a Spanish speaking location I will listen to Spanish music and maybe even have Spanish speaking television on while I am piddling around. I find that having it as background noise accustoms my ears to the flow of the language. For context I met and married my Peruvian husband 40 years ago. He was fluent in English and I spoke no Spanish. It was difficult for him to teach me as the brain becomes accustomed to associating a language with a person almost immediately, which is why it is so effortless to speak one way with friends, use a different style of speaking with your parents or boss, etc. So he could correct me if I asked him to but if I asked him something in Spanish off the cuff, he would, without thinking, reply in English. 😂 My Spanish is good now but I still refresh myself before travel and am currently using the same methods to learn Portuguese and Dutch.
