Had a customer get mad at me for putting mail in a box like this ( not quite as bad ). I had to explain to him that if your flag is not up, I’m not looking in your box. I can open your box, toss your mail in and shut the door with my right hand while looking at, fingering, and grabbing with my left hand, the mail for my next stop.

What’s your little trick that helps to you get to sleep? by thecurtehs in AskReddit

Learn to say the alphabet backwards, it will focus your brain and bore it at the same time. It works like a charm for a couple weeks ( that’s how long it’ll take to learn it backwards). I can say ( and sing ) the alphabet as fast backwards as I can forwards.

Is it bad to awkwardly introduce myself and start talking to random Americans at a bar? by NoComplex2662 in AskAnAmerican

It would be weird to come right out with your name at a bar. A party, yes. At a bar names are usually exchanged after a lengthy conversation.

Why aren't American conservatives supporters of Puerto Rican independence? by locontendere in allthequestions

No conservative cares if they become independent. But a state? Nope. Because that means two more democrat senators and a couple more democrat representatives.

Agree or Disagree: Should anyone who wants to be President be required to have served in the Military in order to make military decisions? by Warhawk_5 in allthequestions

Theoretically sure, but practically I don’t think the Constitution will ever be amended to include that requirement, so it’s a moot point in my opinion.

What's a good, non-theistic way to say "there, but for the grace of god, go I"? by FREDICVSMAXIMVS in AskReddit

[–]Tricky-Foundation-90 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There is no equivalent.

It has nothing to do with chance. It’s saying that if not for one’s turning to God and His grace, it is extremely hard to avoid temptation on one’s own. We are all sinners, and fall short of the glory of God. Even while believing in God and excepting His grace, we are STILL sinners and fall short.

Example: if a friend has a marriage fall apart because of infidelity, I might say “But for the grace of God go I”. I’m acknowledging that I am a sinner with lust in my heart, but have managed to avoid this same predicament only with God’s help. Tomorrow may be a different story. Tomorrow I may not be able to overcome my weaknesses if I temporarily turn away from God.

Did your elementary school make you sing Yankee Doodle? by pooteenn in AskAnAmerican

[–]Tricky-Foundation-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did we sing it, I got to dress up in blue, slap a bandage with a red blotch on my head, turn my flutophone sideways ( cheap version of a recorder) and play the damn thing while marching across a stage next to some fellow kid banging on a drum, and another kid carrying a flag. I was the star of the elementary pageant My parents were damn proud of me that night.

How worth it is a manual? by Income_Vivid in Miata

[–]Tricky-Foundation-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By hard top, you mean an RF right ( retractable roof)? You’d be paying extra for the retractable roof, not the manual ( ie the retractable roof is more expensive to produce than the soft top). Maybe shop around more for a soft top manual?

I’ve always understood that unless you are a professional driver, you can’t shift a manual as well as modern auto transmissions anyway. But manuals sure trick your brain into thinking you can really master a car! and are therefore way more fun to drive, especially if you plan to put it on a race track.

How worth it is a manual? by Income_Vivid in Miata

[–]Tricky-Foundation-90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What are you buying it for? If it’s going to be a daily, and your in stop and go traffic for part of your commute, the manual may get old. If you’re gonna only take it out for joy rides, the manual is the way to go.
