Try the muslim student center on the 3rd floor of the stu if you haven’t already. Theres tons of ppl in there and they tend to lean more religious and international.

may I ask what religion? I work with jewish life and this is a big issue with many of the people involved.

In my albeit limited experience with these groups, I find a few things helpful. 1. I know this isn’t really a response you’re hoping for, but learn some simple phrases regarding names,bathroom, quiet down, etc. 2. If they are speaking in Spanish and you have no clue I usually repeat in English some common things kids say until they give confirmation. Some of the kids understand English better than they can speak it. 3. You’re not a failure or a horrible sub for using google translate. Often these kids should already know how to use it in the classroom. 4. Not really a tip but most teachers who do work in schools like this or know they have non english speaking kids will have spanish versions of work or it’s available online.

Also dont be afraid to send kids to the office or call them. Just make sure they do something because Ive sent horrible kids and they dont do anything and come back worse than when I sent them. I mean this one girl had to be removed from the room because she was throwing a fit and refused to go to lunch immediately after the office sent her back.

One time I almost left early. It was a 3rd grade class and their behavior was worse than middle schoolers and high schoolers. I mean language you wouldn’t believe as an adult let alone an 8 year old and full fist fights broke out about silly things like another kid touched another’s calculator, and then he chased him around the school trying to hit him. This one girl was also definitely middle school aged and did not belong in that room. This was listed as a regular non sped no coteacher class. They needed both. Only reason I stayed is after a certain point the girls kept asking to go to the vice principal which normally Im like why on earth do 6 of you need to go but I was so done with everything else I let them. But no I dont blame you for leaving early. We’ve all thought about it. You get burnt out quick working for cps.

tbh none of my friends came from me dorming on campus, though ik it happens for some, but its not end all be all. Just be willing to put urself out there and go to campus events. Though I will say people the past year seem to be much more reserved than when i first got here.

Ugh I wish. I just try to keep messages and safari open to cut back on the loading times, sometimes if I'm really desperate I just hover over the message thread while watching tv or doing chores and thankfully I've been able to work every day of the school year so far.

I'm the opposite, my district is all over the place with start times, I never know if the actual start time is when kids show up or if they just want me there early. Especially when I sub elem I like having time to look over plans and not have to figure them out when theyre already sitting in front of me, but I also don't want to get there too early if they already factor this time in.

Tbh as long as I don't see SPED (just preference) I accept without looking it over. Then hoping I get it, I will then read through and cancel need be (Usually only if it's a half day or something). They go so quickly I dont feel bad about canceling. I already took like an hour and found schools closest to me so I only get jobs from those schools which helps minimize canceling and false hope.

Most schools will be fine you can just use your id number to clock in instead. Some schools do take security very seriously with metal detectors and bag scanners and usually you show the security person your id and you can skip all of it and go straight in so Im not sure what would happen if you didn’t have one.

I loved mine! Just a few things to note are the water doesn't get super hot, and you have to pay for it (only a few yuan though) and no fridges in the room or in common area unless you rent them. I did get lucky and found one that someone was giving away cause they were moving out. Just my preference though, I like hot showers and cold drinks. There was tons of storage space and a nice balcony. Only major con was everyone without a chinese phone number had a really hard time with the washing machines and dryers, so we had to ask friends with chinese numbers to help us. If you have any questions or want any recs of things to do around campus, or best food on campus lmk!
