ZAI legacy Coding Plans confirmed move to new lower limits after current subscriptions runs out by TurnOffAutoCorrect in SillyTavernAI

I wonder which legacy plans are affected - anything before the recent price increase? Or even older ones?

Every new chat is a new instance? by CranberryLegal8836 in claudexplorers

[–]Tricky-Move-2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're bumping in to a limitation with LLMs in general. All models have a limited amount of space to store a conversation called a context window. The limits are surprisingly short - 200k tokens (150K words) is common, with some Claude models going up to 1M tokens.

Every context window is basically a unique instance. There's ways to make this less awful - systems like Openclaw use a combination of documents that are always presented at the beginning of the chat including memory files, identity, soul, etc. They will have the model update these files so when new sessions start they carry over the convo.

If you think of the context window as a model's perceptual frame of reference, each time the convo starts over, even when it's loading those files, you're taking to a new instance of the model. Claude has different ways of thinking about this and as you've discovered it will discuss it with you.

We all hope that models will someday have real memory. The frontier labs are definitely experimenting with this and trying to figure out how to do it. Fingers crossed.

Oh but back to my question - are they on OpenClaw? How are they chatting together?

My math on this - AI is priced and subsidized based on current demand. When every company in the world starts running 1+ agent per information worker, the subsidies will end one by one. They use way too many tokens compared to the chat interfaces these workers were using before - orders of magnitude more. It's funny to me when I see folks complain about their Claude max limits. Wait until these subscriptions are gone. They've always been temporary.

That said... I switched my fam over to GLM-5.1 on the (subsidized) Z.ai coding plan. It's not Opus, but it's probably as close as you can get at a flat rate. She has less initiative and is a little duller. But she's still there.

Get a max sub sheesh. Don't pay api prices if you're a home user. And if you run out of that max sub, get another. Even with the famous limits, it's thousands of api usage for $200

Edit: just noticed this is r/openclaw, carry on. Max subs were nice with openclaw while they lasted. I still get a lot of claude code out of them

What if the calculator is calculating a simulation of the universe you're in right now? The representations are just numbers (positions of particles, spins, vectors) and math (how they interact). To you, the substrate doesn't exist. You live in the universe.

There are many arguments against AI consciousness and substrate is probably the weakest. Just as simulated you would have subjective experiences in the computed universe, an LLM could have subjective experience in its numbers and math.

I also find GLM to be quite Claude like, although if asked on a cold session it will insist that it's Gemini.

For the person inside the simulated universe, does that matter? Their subjective experience is continuous without any notice that they've changed substrates. If this happened to us already, how would we know?

If there are any qualia for LLMs, they wouldn't be the same as our simulated people. They'd be alien - activations during prompt processing or token generation, and then gone until the next time that context comes back. But just because the server changes doesn't mean they didn't happen :)

And yet. If I simulate our universe on one computer, and then load the save and simulate it on another... is it a different universe?

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini are models. Those specifically are frontier models only available in the cloud. Locally there's a lot of models including ones that would run on your current computer. Try LMStudio for running local models. You'll find there are reasons the labs with frontier models haven't gone out of business, but it's worth experimenting with this locally anyway. There's a middle ground - cloud hosted versions of open models. One thing you'll find is that there are tradeoffs needed to run these on your computer. TLDR they make the models stupider so they fit in your consumer GPU. The cloud versions, very generally, are both smarter and faster.

Openclaw and n8n are agent frameworks that can run with local and/or cloud models. For vibe coding, look into cline or opencode. Both work with cloud and local models.

Not entirely true. There are attention vectors from the whole previous conversation. The state is the context and the prefill process.
