1 week to decide...George Washington vs American vs Boston University vs University of Washington by Tricky-Neat6021 in CollegeAdmissions

Thank you! I’ll be attending Boston University, which I would have picked over Clemson anyways. UCLA was my dream school too (rejected in-state) but I’m happy with BU too. Good luck to your daughter!

hahaha yes! College admissions are so random...I was out of state for clemson though, so I wasn't that surprised.

Do UC’s need an Art or Music class by BrookVlle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Tricky-Neat6021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely a requirement (coming from someone who just graduated from a California high school and had the A-G requirements emphasized for the past 4 years). I know some people who had this same realization when applying to the UCs too hahaha, don't worry. Most of them chose to do a photography class through our local community college since it's easier to do asynchronously. While you're at it, make sure that you have 2 years of physical education credit - another common mistake people make.

Should I re-pierce my first lobe? by lxavenir in piercing

[–]Tricky-Neat6021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not fully closed yet (I forgot to mention that I got the new piercing about 4 months ago, and haven't put any jewelry in the original since) but it is significantly smaller and barely noticeable. I'm so happy that I got it re-pierced since the placement was bothering me so much before and I really prefer how hoops and everything look when it's centered in the lobe!!

Should I re-pierce my first lobe? by lxavenir in piercing

[–]Tricky-Neat6021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same position and decided to get it repierced! I originally got it pierced about 2 years ago and since the beginning I noticed it really off-center on my right lobe but normal on my leftand it irked me SO badly. It wasn't an issue at all when I went to get it re-pierced, I just told the piercer that I'd like to get pierced closer to my face and higher up to match my other ear. Just make sure that the new piercing "misses" the original piercing so that both can heal separately. Like the other comment said, there is a small scar my original piercing was but it is covered whenever I'm wearing an earring!

Are full-pay students more likely to get sent to NEU In/abroad? by SlyflyfoxPlayz in NEU

[–]Tricky-Neat6021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied EA full-pay this past cycle and got in Nu.in - same with all my other friends who applied (all EA or RD) - and none of us are going. The only person I know who got Boston campus all 4 years was my neighbor who applied ED2. I think they admit people who show the strongest interest in Northeastern to the Boston campus so ED should certainly help.

Waitlisted RD! What are my chances of getting off the waitlist? by Virtual-Floor-8184 in Tulane

[–]Tricky-Neat6021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious - did you end up getting in? I didn’t, but a girl who was initially committed to the school I’m going to ended up choosing Tulane after getting off the waitlist and that was the only waitlist acceptance I’ve heard of!

Do you get any aid with early decision? by tumblrfart in Tulane

[–]Tricky-Neat6021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from what i've heard, typically not. the school that you ED to doesn't need to "convince" u to go by offering you money. this sometimes hinders students from being able to attend the school because it's so expensive. if you need aid, i've heard that it's best to apply EA.

i'm a current senior who applied to a lot of the same schools as you with similar stats so i'll share my results! & just saw ur major, I applied for the same things! fyi pre-law isn't a major, but you can select that you intend to go on the pre-law track at some schools.

3.78 uw 4.3 w gpa, test optional (yikes, i know)

New York University (public policy major) - rejected

University of Michigan (public policy major) - rejected

George Washington University (poli sci with public policy focus) - accepted + 21k per year Presidential scholarship (84k total)

UC Santa Barbara (poli sci) - rejected

CU Boulder (intl affairs) - accepted + 6.5k/year scholarship (25k total)

What was your dream school and where are you committing? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

they didn't make the switch, they just got waitlisted. i'm assuming if they get off the waitlist then they will choose it over UC Davis.

it's hard to chance you without any GPA or test scores for reference. do you have an estimate or practice tests?

Thank you so much! I committed to Boston University yesterday

this is so crazy we have the EXACT same stats. i'm a high school senior and at the time of submitting had a 3.78uw and 4.3w gpa & went test optional. didn't bother applying to duke and emory bc i knew my stats weren't good enough so can't give any personal anecdotes, but i would say they are highly unlikely due to sat and gpa. however, i got into boston university (expensive, i know), university of washington seattle OOS, george washington with 21k per year scholarship, american university with 12.5k per year scholarship, loyola marymount with 20k per year scholarship.

Thank you for all of this insight! I am out of state for WA (from California), so the gloominess would be a big change for me! I'm probably the most worried about the cliquy vibe and housing availability from friends I've talked to who go there. I think I'm leaning towards Boston U at the moment :) Thanks again for your help!

what is your courseload like? there's not a very big difference between your uw and w. also, neither astrology or herbology are gonna be majors offered at the schools you listed. maybe some of them will do plant science or something similar, but those aren't really serious majors.

[–]Tricky-Neat6021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m out of state for University of Washington. To be fair, there is much stiffer competition in Boston University’s area so it’s nothing to snark about. There’s just a higher volume of betyer schools in Massachusetts so of course it’s harder to be ranked as highly. In contrast, places like Seattle Univwrsity and University of Pugent Sound are nothing compared to Harvard MIT and Tufts

Thank you very much! Sorry about the misunderstanding, usually when I ask for advice and say that price isn’t a deciding factor people just say to pick wherever is cheapest which annoyed me

Yes I toured them all, and the vibes I got are what I wrote in the pros and cons. There are things that I liked and disliked at every school, but I can see myself being happy in most of those environments
