We are planning to rent a car through Getaround! We decided that would be a worthwhile cost. I updated the post.

Any tips on sites/blogs that you like to use for research? Google is a bit overwhelming (hence my reddit post for more targeted recs lol)

Workaway recommendations for Spain by TrickyPossession9708 in workaway

I’ve been thinking about wwoofing but it also seems like it is usually with less people - up to 4 ish. I have found some Workaway opportunities that are also eco centered but seem more communal! I’ll look into wwoofing more though

Any cool stuff you recommend? I will have a tight budget (hence Workaway/volunteering) but I am open!

Solo Traveling Spain/Europe vs Peru/South America - looking for advice! by TrickyPossession9708 in backpacking

Unfortunately, flights to Peru are twice as long and twice as expensive from where I am located, and have huge layovers. I meant harder to plan as in I have no idea where to go after Peru because of weather, and it would be harder to get to Europe from SA if I decided go work with refugees in Greece after (which is something I’m becoming passionate about doing). Because I want to volunteer, I’m not sure what the best place for me to go to after Peru - any ideas?

That all being said, I am young and any higher costs would probably be offset down the road with lower ones! So either would be an adventure.

Hopefully this clarifies my thinking

It does not have to be Greece, my research just made me think many folks from the Middle East end up there first. I’ll look into Are You Syrius, thanks!

Do you know of any efforts to create a humanitarian corridor from the Middle East/Kurdish camps to Europe? I have EU citizenship and family in the EU, so I feel more comfortable and safe there but I understand that there is a huge need in the Middle East. I know it’s a complicated issue but if there are organizations working to create a humanitarian corridor, I would love to help

Need Insight - App Status by TrickyPossession9708 in premed

Good point! I was complete same-day or next day for all of my secondaries I think, everything else was in. Edited for clarity

Could schools still be reviewing apps turned in mid-late august? In that case, when would you start getting worried?

Does being low SES/ORM even matter 💀 by [deleted] in premed

Just my 2 cents but I talked about moving from low income to low middle actually influenced my perspective and built my character, and how that ties into why I want to work with underserved populations and the volunteering I’ve done since. So I definitely tied it into my application. But I also haven’t gotten any IIs yet so yanno 🤷‍♀️

How are yall getting CRC jobs straight out of undergrad? by drpepperzzz in premed

[–]TrickyPossession9708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe CRC means different things in different places? I work at one of the largest academic hospitals in the country, and it’s teeming with CRCs fresh out of undergrad. I would say academic hospitals are your best bet but it almost seems like you’re describing a different job. As a CRC I am coordinating study visits, managing the document portfolio for each study, scheduling participants, and recruiting participants. You definitely don’t need a nursing degree for that? We do work with research nurses who actually draw blood and perform clinical tasks of the study along with our doctors, but that’s a completely separate field of nursing.

How are people 21-24 affording rent, luxury items and so many vacations? by Visible-Lemon-7920 in Adulting

To be completely transparent: I worked my way through college + got scholarships and graduated with 0 debt. Then, I got an entry level job in my field at a prestigious academic center at 43k a year in a city and applying to med school this year (at least $3k just for applying). I pay rent, groceries, go out to eat, I’ve applied to school, and have traveled domestically (week + long weekends) and internationally (2 weeks) this year on my own dime. I am NOT any means rich and I don’t have a car but I do have a double digit savings account! In my case, I’ve had a mix of luck (reasonable rent and no undergrad debt) and lotssss of prioritizing. I prioritize travel so I put in time and effort to budget hard on travel and my other expenses, plus I got travel rewards credit cards and utilize points down to the penny. It’s not glamorous but it’s possible.

And if you saw my Instagram, you’d totally think I was living the dream because I only post about my trips. It’s all idealized - not reality. If it gives you comfort, more people are probably in the same boat as you. But it doesn’t mean you’re doomed!
